Amnesia: The Bunker’s new gameplay video is bringing big Alien: Isolation-but-WW1 vibes
Frictional Games are releasing the next entry in their hit horror series later this month – May 16th – with Amnesia: The Bunker, taking their signature stalks through the dark into a World War One setting. That date’s creeping up very soon, and we now have our first extended look at gameplay down below.
Amnesia: The Bunker has been delayed again to May 23
The latest in the Amnesia series is Amnesia: The Bunker, which was due to launch on May 16. In a turn of events, developer Frictional Games has delayed the WWI horror game by a week, to May 23.
In an update shared to Frictional Games’ Twitter, the developer has detailed that it needs a little more time to perfect the game. “We’re pushing the release of Amnesia: The Bunker back by one week, and it will now be coming out May 23 instead,” the tweet reads.
“This will give us a little more time to polish the game and make sure everything is perfect before launch. We appreciate your patience and hope you are looking forward to playing Amnesia: The Bunker. It will be worth the wait!”

“This will give us a little more time to polish the game and make sure everything is perfect before launch,” reads a tweet from the developer as part of its announcement. This news comes after the game suffered a delay from March to May of this year, following its initial reveal in December 2022.
Amnesia: The Bunker is the latest game in the Amnesia series, taking place in a semi-open world during World War I. The game will also feature some randomization, which Frictional Games hopes will encourage more replayability. The Bunker will include a crafting system and even the implementation of a revolver–a first for the series. It will also emphasize player choice much more than before.
Amnesia The Bunker is a Resident Evil immersive sim, and I adore it
Frictional’s Amnesia The Bunker is not the game you think it is. Yes, like previous entries it’s a slow-paced survival horror game with a heavy focus on lighting, but there’s so much more to this experience. I had a chance to play the new entry in the Amnesia series at GDC in San Francisco and chat with creative lead Fredrik Olsson. Part Amnesia, part Alien Isolation, part Resident Evil, and part immersive sim, if you’re already excited for the upcoming Amnesia The Bunker release date then strap in, as this is one hell of a ride.

Amnesia: The Bunker delayed into May after a ‘tough winter’
WW1 horror Amnesia: The Bunker out May 16th
Last month, Frictional Games announced that their hit horror series would return with Amnesia: The Bunker, taking their signature scares back to the first World War. We now know that the game is releasing on May 16th for PC and consoles.
Amnesia The Bunker release date window and teaser trailer
The Amnesia The Bunker release date announcement has come as a welcome surprise to indie horror fans. While 2013’s Amnesia A Machine For Pigs failed to capture the zeitgeist of its own progenitor, Amnesia Rebirth was a welcome return to the series’ roots in 2022. It also included lore developments that raise more questions than answers, leaving the series ripe for a sequel.
Beyond the Amnesia The Bunker release date, we don’t know too much about the upcoming sequel. Amnesia: The Dark Descent is undoubtedly one of the best horror games of all time, and is widely credited with kickstarting the revival of survival horror, so it’s fair to say that Amnesia The Bunker has a lot of expectations riding on it. Here’s everything we know ahead of the release date.

Amnesia: The Bunker shakes up the horror survival series with emergent gameplay and sandbox elements
Frictional Games, the studio behind the Amnesia series and Soma, has announced Amnesia: The Bunker, the latest installation in the franchise.
The developers call the game a “pivotal point” in the horror series due to player freedom impacting gameplay. For the first time in the series, you can choose your playstyle as you explore the semi-open world.
With hardly any scripted events, and constant tension brought about by an ever-present threat, it is up to you to manage your approach to survival.
‘Amnesia: The Bunker’ is a new survival horror sandbox from Frictional Games
Frictional Games thinks it has a way to shake up the Amnesia horror formula — throw out most of the predictability. The studio has unveiledAmnesia: The Bunker, a “semi-open” survival horror title that takes place during the First World War. You play a French soldier (an amnesiac, of course) who has little more than a revolver and flashlight to defend themselves against a mysterious creature hunting them down. There are “hardly any” scripted events, and frequently multiple ways to overcome the game’s hurdles.
The new release also promises new forms of interaction, with elements of sandbox games despite the presence of a story. You can also expect improved lighting effects and “carefully” crafted sound. And yes, you’ll still get Frictional’s signature extra-gloomy environments.
Amnesia: The Bunker releases on PlayStation, Xbox and PC (via Epic Games Store and Steam) sometime in 2023. It’s too soon to say if the open world format will help, or simply introduce the problems that sometimes creep up in those games — it won’t be very frightening if you’re wandering aimlessly. If nothing else, the approach should improve the replayability compared to other horror projects. You can come back knowing the scares won’t always pop up at the same places.
