Jack Ma cedes control of Chinese fintech giant Ant Group
Chinese billionaire Jack Ma is ceding control of Alipay owner Ant Group. Per The Wall Street Journal, the Alibaba-affiliated company announced it would end agreements that had allowed Ma to hold a dominant position within Ant Group’s corporate governance structure. The outspoken entrepreneur previously possessed more than 50 percent of voting rights at Ant, even though he did not sit on the company’s board of directors or was involved in day-to-day operations. Ma’s influenced Ant Group through a handful of investment vehicles that owned a combined 50.5 percent stake in the fintech giant.
Moving forward, Ant said Ma and nine other company executives and employees would have voting rights they had agreed to use independently of one another. Reuters estimates Ma will own 6.2 percent of Ant Group shares once the company implements the changes it announced over the weekend.
In 2020, shortly before Ant was scheduled to hold an initial public offering that was expected to raise a record $34 billion, Ma drew the ire of Chinese authorities after he called the country’s banks “state-owned pawnshops” during a speech in Shanghai. Chinese regulators went on to block the impending IPO and ordered Ant to scale down its business. Specifically, the company was ordered to return to its roots as a payment provider. A year later, authorities fined Alibaba, Ma’s other company, $2.8 billion following an antitrust investigation into alleged monopolistic practices by the company. Ma has avoided the public eye ever since.
Rylan fights back tears as he loses £250,000 for charity on Ant and Dec’s Limitless Win
RYLAN was seen fighting back tears after losing £250,000 alongside David Walliams on Ant and Dec’s Limitless Win.
The Strictly: It Takes Two presenter appeared on the quiz show alongside Walliams in the name of raising money for charity.

Together, the pair did remarkably well on the ladder game, passing through the £250,000 mark with a chance to reach the half-million in the endless game.
However, after failing to lock-in what they’d earned and choosing to continue instead of walking away with the £75,000 at risk, they ran out of lives and ended up with nothing.
When asked “how many weeks does it take for a tadpole to turn into a frog?” Rylan and Walliams got debating, before giving their answer with just seconds on the clock spare.
But Rylan seemed to know immediately he’d gone wrong, joking with the audience: “Is this the way out?” while Ant McPartlin scolded them for the intense moment and telling them: “This is supposed to be Christmas Day viewing you know!”
Unfortunately they were too far out of their answer to make it through to the next stage, and their £75,000 gamble failed, and they didn’t reach the £250,000 mark.
The pair looked devastated as the money was taken away from them and they were left with nothing but a £1,000 token prize each for their chosen charities.
Both looked visibly upset, with Rylan appearing close to tears as he tried to put a positive spin on the whole scenario.
“We’re so gutted, so gutted. We did our best. It’s been amazing coming on and we’re just gutted we can’t take home more for the charities.
But they’re getting at least a little something, so we’re grateful, and if anything we’ve at least raised awareness for both of them.
Why would you play that game? Unless you keep tadpoles at home, don’t play that question.
“We needed more lives. We should’ve cashed out.”
David Walliams was playing for Alzheimers Research UK in tribute to late friend Dame Barbara Windsor, and Rylan was playing for Chrons and Colitis UK in honour of his mum.
Ant and Dec’s Limitless Win returns January 7th on ITV.

Ant McPartlin doesn’t think viewers will see ‘the real’ Matt Hancock on I’m A Celebrity
Ant and Dec make fun of I’m A Celebrity’s Matt Hancock ahead of jungle arrival
ANT McPartlin and Declan Donnelly teased Matt Hancock’s jungle arrival as they confirmed two extra stars will join I’m A Celebrity.
The former health secretary, 44, is expected to enter the Australian camp in the coming days – having dodged the launch night’s terrifying skydive.
Along with comedian Seann Walsh he is one of the surprise additions following on from the other 10 celebrities who landed in the jungle in the first episode.
Kicking off the new series Ant and Dec spoke live from Down Under for the first time since 2019 after the past two years were shot at Gwrych Castle in North Wales due to Covid-19 travel restrictions.
In their opening monologue, Ant, 46, said: “We have not one but two late arrivals on the way.
“And fortunately we have managed to keep their identities a complete secret. No-one has got a clue who they are.”

Stressing the word “mat”, Dec, 47, added: “You are going to be surprised, guys. We are going to be rolling out the welcome mat for them soon.”
Responding to criticism, the disgraced politician told The Sun he wants to use the “incredible platform” on the show to raise awareness of dyslexia and insisted it “wasn’t the cheque” that made him decide to join the programme.
Leading figures at organisations specialising in dyslexia have said they are grateful to the former cabinet minister for his work raising awareness of the learning difficulty and welcomed a platform for the cause.
After news broke that Hancock was joining the show, many political figures and famous faces shared their thoughts – including a Tory in Hancock’s West Suffolk constituency.

Discussing Matt’s upcoming appearance, Andy Drummond, who is chairman of Newmarket Conservatives and deputy chairman (political) of West Suffolk Conservative Association, said: “I’m looking forward to him eating a kangaroo’s penis.
“Quote me. You can quote me that.”
On putting Matt on the show, executive producer of the show Olly Nash batted away any backlash.
He told ITV News: “We’ve put in loads of politicians over the years, we also put in people who have had very strong views about certain things and sometimes it plays out in camp and sometimes it doesn’t.

“It’s not a question of trying to divide camp, we have never been a deliberately divisive camp. It’s up to them to come into the camp and it’s up to them if they want to leave.”
Also among the high-profile line-up entering the Australian jungle this series are rugby player Mike Tindall, pop star Boy George and former Love Island contestant Olivia Attwood.
