Warhammer 40K Just Brought Back a Legendary Hero, and It Still Wasn’t Enough
Things rarely go well in the grimdark universe of Games Workshop’s Warhammer 40,000 setting. It’s kind of there in the grimdark moniker: things either start bad and get worse, or every victory is wrenched from the jaws of defeat, sometimes literally, at great cost. As the game gears up for a major relaunch, that’s not…

Proton 8.0 is here, and it brought Steam Deck game fixes
Valve and CodeWeavers have released the latest version of Proton, their compatibility software that allows Windows games to run on Linux-based operating systems – like that of the Steam Deck. Proton 8.0 is a biggun, smoothing out compatibility issues for over a dozen games (including the Dead Space remake and Forspoken) while making Steam Deck-specific fixes to many more.
These include an update that should make the repeatedly troublesome 2K Launcher behave itself again, while Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands gets improved sleep/resume functionality on the handheld PC. A crashing issue with LLife is Strange Remastered Collection has also been nixxed, as has a bug that for some reason forced open the Deck’s onscreen keyboard when launching A Plague Tale: Innocence and A Plague Tale: Requiem. Most of the other addressed problems don’t look as funny in my head, but you can read them all in the full patch notes regardless.
Downloading Proton 8.0 onto the Steam Deck is easy enough: just search for it in your Library, tap or select the icon when it appears in the results, hit Install, and restart when it’s done. Begone, foul keyboards.
How Star Trek: Picard’s Crew Brought Back Its Final Legacy Character
Star Trek: Picard is in its literal endgame now, with just one episode left in its final season. This whole season has been a full blown reunion by bringing back the now older actors from Star Trek: The Next Generation. And with that show’s crew now back in action for one last ride—at least, for now—all they need now…
Dead by Daylight healing time brought back to normal after player feedback
After some feedback from Dead by Daylight players over a change that meant it took longer to heal, Behaviour Interactive has changed it back to the original length.
Before anything heads out on to the main Dead by Daylight servers, Behaviour Interactive typically tests things on the Public Test Build (PTB). The Tools of Torment Mid-Chapter recently arrived on the PTB, and it introduced a change that increased the base healing time from 16 seconds to 24 seconds, which quickly proved to be controversial. In a blog post, Behaviour noted that it knows changing something like this is “a very touchy subject, so we kept an extra close eye on this change to see how it would play out.”
“After reviewing player feedback, we found that many of you agreed that the speed which you heal others was already in a good spot prior to the update,” Behaviour continued. “This change also had knock-on effects elsewhere in the game, making effects like Mangled and Hemorrhage stronger and making ‘slugging’ (leaving Survivors in the dying state) even more effective. Therefore, we have reverted the base healing time to 16 seconds.”
Parents hug kids brought back to Ukraine after being taken to Russia
PARENTS hug children brought back to Ukraine after being taken to Russia from territories occupied by Moscow.
Mykola Kuleba, head of the Save Ukraine charity, said: “We are welcoming home 31 more children who have been illegally taken.”

Mr Kuleba praised the “heroic mothers” who retrieved their kids.
Over 16,000 Ukrainian children have been deported to Russia since the invasion, Kyiv says.
Russia denies the allegations.
The children had been taken from the pro-Western country’s northeastern region of Kharkiv and the southern region of Kherson, said Save Ukraine, which fights what it says are illegal deportations of Ukrainian children.
On Friday, the charity said the children and their relatives had crossed the border into Kyiv-controlled territory.
According to footage released Friday, the children, who carried suitcases and bags, crossed the border on foot and later boarded a bus to continue their journey.
One elderly woman who was supposed to bring home two grandchildren had died from “stress”, Kuleba added.
Writing on Facebook, he said the Ukrainian relatives had been subjected to a “13-hour interrogation” by Russia’s FSB security service.
Last month, the International Criminal Court announced an arrest warrant for Russian President Vladimir Putin on the war crime accusation of unlawfully deporting Ukrainian children.
The Hague-based court also issued a warrant against Maria Lvova-Belova, Russia’s presidential commissioner for children’s rights, on similar charges.

Boost for hard-pressed Brits as Britain’s gas boiler and petrol and diesel car bans WON’T be brought forward
CALLS for a ban on polluting gas boilers to be brought forward have been rejected.
The demand was contained in Tory MP Chris Skidmore’s Net Zero review to make sure legally binding green targets were met.

Energy Secretary Grant Shapps is refusing to budge on plans to ditch gas boilers by 2035[/caption]
But Energy Secretary Grant Shapps is refusing to budge on plans to ditch gas boilers by 2035. In his review, Mr Skidmore wanted the boiler ban brought forward to 2033.
But Mr Shapps said he would not shift on that — as well as resisting pressure from Tory MPs to delay a ban on new petrol and diesel cars from 2030 to the EU target date of 2035.
He said: “We are not in Europe, we don’t have to do what Europe does — we’ve always been more forward leaning on this stuff than the EU.”
The Government is already set to make electricity cheaper than gas in an attempt to push people towards eco-friendly devices.
Up to 300,000 families will get help to insulate homes with the Great British Insulation Scheme.
Meanwhile, £5,000 bungs to get a new heat pump will continue until 2028, and the world’s second largest floating wind farm, East Anglia Three, will power 1.3million homes from the coast of Norfolk when it is completed.
But the Government will delay its response to Joe Biden‘s Inflation Reduction Act — where firms will get billions to subsidise green plans — until autumn.
Mike Childs of Friends of the Earth, said: “These plans look half-baked and half-hearted.”
