Pesky seagulls force library closure after causing £2million damage
NESTING seagulls have shut a library for good by causing £2million worth of damage.
A drone survey found soil moved by gulls blocked gutters, causing cracked pipes at the 135-year-old building.

Bosses shut it for safety checks in December and have now said it will remain closed.
Gulls are protected under the Wildlife Act 1981 and repairs must be made outside the nesting season.
Kent County Council, which maintains the Grade II-listed structure in Folkestone, said it cannot afford them anyway.
Locals signed a petition and put up Save Our Library signs demanding a meeting to discuss the condition report.
Campaigner Jon O’Connor said “We’re not giving up until we have some proper answers.”
The council said: “Downpipes are restricted and in addition to significant rainfall, contributes to worsening water damage. The work is significant and funds are not available in the current financial climate.
“The library will remain closed until further notice. We will continue to look for other funding and locations.”

Ahead of the Wii U and 3DS eShops’ closure, YouTube’s most prolific completionist bought every game
The Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShops are both shutting down at the end of this month, so YouTuber Jirard “The Completionist” Khalil’s solution was to buy them all.
Last year, Nintendo made the unfortunate decision to shut down the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS eShops, and that date is almost upon us. From March 27, you won’t be able to buy any games from either online storefront, though you will be able to download any that you have previously purchased. There’s a whole heap of problems there, one of them being that up to 1000 digital-only games will just completely disappear when this happens. So of course, that left Khalil with one option: buy them all (thanks, VGC).
To put this into perspective, that’s 886 Wii U games, adding up to 1.2TB in storage size, and $9,673 (£7943) in cost , and 1547 3DS games, DSiWare, and DLC, making up 267GB in storage size, and $13,118 (£10,772) in cost. That’s a grand total of $22,791, or £18,715, an absolutely heft sum of money.
Knockout City’s Closure Is Part Of A “Painful Truth” Of The Games Industry, Studio Says
Knockout City‘s days are numbered, but for Velan Studios, there’s still a strong sense of optimism. Though the live-service PvP dodgeball game nears its second anniversary on May 21, it’ll only exist in its current state for another few weeks beyond that. In a February blog post, Velan revealed that Knockout City will be taken offline on June 6, with the silver-lining exception being that Velan will enable private servers to be hosted on PC thereafter.
The news came as the latest in a series of live-service game closures that defined January 2023, and looking back a few years proves this was no one-month trend. It’s getting harder to stay afloat in the competitive and ever-changing world of live-service video games. As Knockout City is a personal favorite of mine, the news hit me like, well, a dodgeball to the face. I wanted to speak to the team to find out what it’s like when a game you love working on is ending on the market’s terms rather than your own. Though those I spoke to admitted there is a sadness to the situation, they weren’t without hope for what’s next, both within Velan and across the industry–even if it’ll take a paradigm shift to get things where they need to be.
“This is my favorite game I’ve ever worked on,” game director Jeremy Russo told me. “And it’s also one of my favorite games I’ve ever played. Like, I still play this. And if you talk to most developers, none of them play their own game. But I still have a blast logging in and playing with my friends, grouping up, and going into these brawls.”
