CS:GO hits a new all-time concurrent player count following Counter-Strike 2 reveal
Counter-Strike 2 was officially revealed just this week, and with that CS:GO has recently broken a record for highest number of concurrent players.
CS:GO might be more than a decade old, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t still performing incredibly well. As spotted by Eurogamer, heading over to SteamDB will tell you that the team-based shooter has hit a massive new player peak of 1.5 million (or 1,519,457 to be specific) this weekend. That’s 1.5 million players concurrently, to be clear, as in that many people all playing the shooter at one time, certainly impressive for such an old title. This new record also makes it the game with the second-biggest concurrent player count ever, behind PUBG Battlegruonds’ own record of 3.2 million – a bit of a difference.
This record is just the newest one this year, as it actually achieved a record of 1.4 million players just a couple of weeks ago. It wouldn’t be entirely unsurprising that the announcement of Counter-Strike 2 played a role in encouraging so many players to jump into the game at once.
Resident Evil 4 Remake sets concurrent franchise record on Steam
Resident Evil 4 Remake is out today, and even with most people still at work, it is already doing well on Steam.
According to SteamDB, Resident Evil 4 Remake has 140,240 concurrent users as of press time, and we expect the number to grow over the weekend.
Compared to other Resident Evil games on Steam, the remake has set a new concurrent record compared to the previous holder Resident Evil Village with 106,631 users at its peak.
Destiny 2: Lightfall breaks concurrent user record with over 316,000 on Steam alone
Destiny 2 has broken its concurrent user record on Steam, passing over 316,000 users on launch day of the Lightfall expansion. This comes five years following it’s original launch.
This figure, taken from SteamCharts is truly impressive, with the average rise and fall of weekly players shooting up over 200,000 players from the peak earlier in the week. As the climactic finish to the series’ overarching battle between light and darkness, it seems people are keen to see the end for themselves.
It’s clear that narrative is a good reason why the prior records have been broken. After all, there’s a huge portion of the Destiny 2 playerbase who just check out the expansion launch quest, play a few strikes and crucible matches, then dip out without grinding out the seasonal content. The concept of a conclusion to a years’long story is something that may have been sweet like honey to the more casual crowd. It’s somewhat reminiscent of a Halo 3 style situation.
Steam breaks 10M concurrent in-game players for the first time
Steam breaks its own record with 10 million concurrent in-game users and 33 million active this past weekend
It was only in October that Steam first passed the 30 million concurrent users mark. The figure meant that the record had increased by 10 million in just two years. That record was broken again in November when it hit 31,379,760 and reached a new high of 33,078,963 on January 8, according to SteamDB.
Steam breaks its records for most concurrent and active users, again
It’s a new year, and a new opportunity for Steam to break some records, which it did when it had over 10 million active players over the weekend.
As spotted by Eurogamer, Steam once again set another record of concurrent users, hitting its latest peak of 33,078,963 players all logged in at once, according to SteamDB stats yesterday (January 8). Keep in mind, it was only in October when Steam hit the 30 million mark for concurrent users, so that’s quite the jump in just a few short months. That’s not the only record Steam set though, as SteamDB also reported that there were 10,284,568 active users, meaning there were a whole bunch of people playing games at the same time.
It’s not too surprising to hear when these particular sets of records were set, as almost exactly a year ago Steam hit 25 million concurrent users. It’s winter, so obviously we’re all holed up inside trying to get through our backlog. Although to be precise, the top three games people were playing includes CS:GO and Dota 2, as well as the recent rising Among Us clone Goose Goose Duck. As well as those three, the usual other suspects like Modern Warfare 2, GTA 5, PUBG, Apex Legends, Rust, Lost Ark, and Wallpaper Engine made up the rest of the top 10.

New World blasts past concurrent player record following Brimstone Sands update and Steam sale
New World has blown past its concurrent player record, reaching upwards of 100,000 adventures exploring the world of Aeternum last weekend. This is thanks in large part to the new Brimstone Sands update, as well as a 50% sale on Steam.
Amazon Games’ MMORPG first launched back in September 2021. While it started life with a damn healthy initial playerbase, server population started to dwindle as the months went on. However, it seems as though with the major events occurring in-game over the past few days, a surge of new players have given the game a second chance.
Not only does this mean they’re able to experience the new content, they may find some of the rough edges that pushed them away have been fixed (or at least improved) over the past few months.
