With all of the reorganization of priorities that came with Warner Bros. Discovery tapping James Gunn and Peter Safran to oversee DC Studios, it felt like some of the studio’s previously announced projects might have been taken off the table. News of Gunn writing and directing Superman: Legacy, for example, seemed like a bad sign for the Ta-Nehisi Coates-written Superman film, but according to DC Studios’ co-CEO, that may not be the case just yet.
Back in 2021, it was reported that We Were Eight Years in Power author Ta-Nehisi Coates was penning a new Superman script described as “a 20th century period piece” that would revolve around a Black version of the Man of Steel. While details about the project were thin at the time, J.J. Abrams…

Titans says DO cross the streams
Call it the sequel to the DC CW’s Crisis on Infinite Earths, if you’d like. This week’s episode of HBO Max series Titans—titled “Dude, Where’s My Gar,” which both delights and enrages me—took Gar “Beast Boy” Logan (Ryan Potter) on a brief trip to the current DC multiverse, from live-action to animation to real life,…
Horror writer and director Mike Flanagan and his Intrepid Pictures partner Trevor Macy had a meeting with DC James Gunn and Peter Safran and pitched a Clayface solo movie for DC Studios, Deadline reports. However, Flanagan came forward on Twitter and addressed the rumors, saying they were speculative.
“The news today is entirely speculative,” the director tweeted. “When or if something like that ever becomes real, I promise I’ll tell you guys.”
In January, DC Studios co-head James Gunn explained that there would be two types of DC movies going forward. One is the DC Universe proper featuring films like Superman Legacy and Batman: The Brave and the Bold. The other is DC Elseworlds, which will feature the Joker solo movie and the upcoming sequel, as well as Matt Reeves’ The Batman. You would think a Clayface movie would be looped into the latter. However, Flanagan pitched it as part of DC’s Universe’s Chapter 1, aptly called Gods and Monsters.
Last week director Zack Snyder posted a mysterious message teasing that everything will come “full circle.” The video had his version of Darkseid from the Justice League movie and immediately put Snyder fans into a frenzy. It was speculated to be everything from a comic book event to a brand-new DC involvement.
What it turned out to be is a three-day event screening of his DC films: Man of Steel, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Zack Snyder’s Justice League. The Snyder Cut is his R-rated, four-hour film that went directly to streaming on HBO Max in 2021. The director also shared the event will raise funds for two causes dear to him: the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Autumn Snyder Tribute Fund.
“It’s kind of a nice coming together of different things. I had always wanted to screen my three DC movies in the theater, together, and it was always one of those things that we were never sure would ever happen,” Snyder told The Nerd Queens on a live stream (via ComicBook). “Because the IMAX version of Justice League, we have screened it a couple of times in the black-and-white version [Zack Snyder’s Justice League: Justice Is Gray Edition]. I just wasn’t sure there was going to be another time when we could get the color version into the theater.”
