Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine is returning to the big screen next year, but according to Deadpool himself, it won’t be the character fans know and love.
Matthew Macfadyen, perhaps best known for his work on HBO’s Succession, is in talks to join the cast of Deadpool 3 alongside Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and Emma Corrin. Deadline was first to report.
Macfadyen’s role has not been revealed, but the character was described as a “third wheel” to Deadpool and Wolverine. The film will be the first R-rated entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and will be produced by Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige.
Deadpool 3 is directed by Shawn Levy and written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, who previously worked on the first two Deadpool movies. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin wrote an earlier draft of the script. Disney has scheduled the film for release on November 8, 2024.
As a performer, Hugh Jackman has an extensive on-stage and cinematic resume dating back decades. Though, despite such a laundry list of credits per IMDb, Jackman might be best known for his role as Marvel’s Wolverine in the “X-Men” film series. Deadpool will break the fourth wall and probably your face on January 26th, when the wise-cracking, chimichanga-loving mercenary arrives as DLC for Marvel’s Midnight Suns. Judging from the new trailer showing him in action that Firaxis have released, they seem to have struck a fine balance between comic book Deadpool and his movie counterpart. Not that Marvel’s Midnight Suns was in short supply of jokes or anything, but the quip quotient is about to quintuple thanks to a new DLC for the strategy game that adds the never-serious anti-hero Deadpool. The DLC, titled The Good, The Bad, and the Undead, launches January 26, and includes new story missions, an abbey upgrade, and a wardrobe full of skins and outfits for the Merc with a Mouth.

Called The Good, the Bad, and the Undead, the DLC features Deadpool as a recruitable hero with new, unique abilities, and the opportunity to become best friends with the Merc with a Mouth in the Abbey.
New enemy types will also be introduced in the story missions, plus, you’ll want to develop Deadpool’s unique Research project Food Truck to give you an extra tactical edge on the battlefield.
