50 Years Ago, the First Cell Phone Call Was Made on This DynaTAC Dinosaur
65 Movie Review – More Family Drama Than Wild Dinosaur Adventure
Based solely on the trailers, I went into 65 thinking it was going to be an epic time travel tale with dinosaurs as the main antagonists. What I ended up getting was a fairly traditional, if not hollow, adventure with a focus more on family than on giant space lizards, which is unfortunate.
The movie starts 65 million years ago on Solaris, a planet similar to Earth. Though we see nothing more than the beach, the people look like humans. Mills (Adam Driver) is a father who leaves his wife and daughter for two years to take on a special project that will pay him extra–money that will go to his ailing daughter’s hospital bills. We are not privy to what that special project is, but it involves Mills flying a spaceship full of cryopods to another planet. During the flight, his spaceship is hit by an asteroid and crashes on an uncharted planet (Earth). Mills is the only survivor until he discovers Koa (Ariana Greenblatt), a nine-year-old girl who survived in the cryopod. She doesn’t speak English, her parents are dead, and they have to find the other half of their spaceship, which has the escape module. So there’s your story.
A fairly rote adventure flick follows, with Mills and Koa trying to escape Earth before the asteroid that eradicates the dinosaurs hits the planet. Along the way, Koa has to learn to trust Mills; Mills has to learn to open his heart to Koa; and the pair must dodge dinosaurs and treacherous terrain. The plot is thin and is ultimately little more than a logline. There is no surprise plot device halfway through, nor is there a twist ending. It tells you what it is up front, and delivers exactly that.
Capcom’s dinosaur shooter is coming to Game Pass this summer
Exoprimal, the online multiplayer dinosaur destruction derby game that is, for some reason, not a remake of Dino Crisis, finally has a release date. Capcom announced a slew of other news for the game as a part of its March 2023 presentation. Check out the latest trailer here.
Though it’s a rough time to release a live-service game with Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League’s release date getting pushed back along with an unfortunate amount of game shut-downs, Exoprimal is slated for release on July 13th. If you can’t wait that long, Capcom also shared that an open beta would be taking place March 17th through 19th — curiously the same dates as the early access open beta of Diablo IV. Check out the website for more details on how to join…
Watch the First Episode of Marvel’s Awesome Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur
With the huge, global popularity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it’s sometimes easy to forget Marvel is much more than that. It’s comic books, obviously, but also video games, toys, TV shows, and excellent animation. Case in point, this week marked the debut of a brand new Marvel show on Disney Channel and it’s…
‘Dinosaur Comics’ Celebrates 20th Anniversary with T-Rex Finally Stomping Past Sixth Panel
Interestingly, North found the original six drawings on a clip-art CD. So honoring this strange milestone, he’s created a special edition in which the online comic strip finally continues beyond its sixth frame:
I fired up a virtual machine running Windows XP which ITSELF was tweaking its settings to run Windows 95, which ITSELF was running the Windows 3.1 software I first used in the last few days of January to make myself a comics layout, and started playing around. (Incidentally, the comic’s still laid out in MS Paint, but the version that came with XP…
After 20 years I’m allowed to change the images BRIEFLY. And only once!!
While readers laugh along with T-Rex, Utahraptor and Dromiceiomimus, North is experiencing this milestone as “incredible,” while also adding “I’m so grateful for everyone who reads my work.”
Writing Dinosaur Comics has led to so many amazing things – not just meeting readers, not just seeing plush versions of T-Rex go up to the edge of space or to Antarctica… [Y]ou can trace a direct line between me sending an upload command to my FTP client in 2003 and everything I’ve done since, and if you told me back then that “hey, the Dinosaur Comics guy is going to write Star Trek comics and adopt Vonnegut into comics too and write bestselling (and non-fiction!) guides to both time travel and taking over the world and, oh, let’s say be the new writer for the Fantastic Four AND MORE” I would’ve said “What?! I would like to be the Dinosaur Comics guy, thank you so much.”
Looking back to 2003, North also reflects that “The world of online comics is very different from how it was when I started.”
[T]here’s been a huge shift towards social media – functioning effectively as an aggregator – and a huge shift away from people actually visiting websites. But I love websites, and I think they give us the healthiest, most free version of the web, and I hope 20 years from now the only way to connect with other people won’t be through a corporate or algorithmically-mediated platform.
And he adds that he hopes he’ll still be writing the comic on its 40th anniversarry in the year 2043.

‘DINOSAUR’ BIRD Encountered on Ontario First Nations Reservation
An Ontario First Nations reservation resident is walking along a familiar trail when they encounter an enormous ‘dinosaur bird’ standing on the ground. Thunderbird or pterosaur?
“About 20 years ago (2002) I was walking an old trail through an open field between my grandparent’s home and my dad’s place on the Rez. Broad daylight. Sun was shining. Beautiful day. A typical walk I took every single day. Wasn’t a lot of distance between the two homes. Maybe a few hundred feet.
I was about halfway through the field when I saw something I had never seen before. Scared the crap out of me so I stopped in my tracks and ducked down to ground level. What I saw was an enormous bird. It was standing on the ground. It must have known I was there because it flew up and away. The wingspan was insane. About 10-15 feet wide. Legit looked like one of those ancient dinosaur birds you see in pictures. I lay on the ground watching it as it flew off towards the forest. I can still hear the swooshing sound of the wings as it took flight.
That was it, never seen it again. We have different varieties of birds here in Ontario, Canada. Eagles. Blue herons. Hawks. But no known species of bird is as huge as the one I saw that day. I ran right to my grandparents and told them what I saw. I had a feeling my grandpa knew what I had seen but he never said anything. Oh, and I was around 20-23 years old at the time so not a kid who may have been exaggerating. Wondering if anyone has ever seen something similar on their Rez.” Jen Mt Pleasant
