This fan-made Akali model for Project L has bolstered the hype for Riot’s fighter
Earlier this week, Twitter user Killianjunk uploaded their own take on what Akali would look like in Project L. It’s brilliant, so brilliant in fact that when I was casually scrolling through Twitter on Thursday morning, I thought it was part of a legitimate announcement at first glance.
The model is created in line with Akali’s classic skin, totally in 3D and with a shader (created by user AerthasVeras) that’s as close to the actual game’s model as you could reasonably expect. It’s borderline uncanny how much it looks like a genuine Project L character, so much so that Project L head Tom Cannon himself complimented the work.
It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything from the Project L team, having left us with a longform blog post about Illaoi that took us through the design philosophy of the champion. But, as KillianJunk showed, the excitement around new champion reveals is still burning away in the hearts of fans all over the world.

Fan-made mod turns ‘Half-Life 2’ into a fully playable VR game
If Half-Life: Alyx left you with an itch to revisit its seminal 2004 predecessor, now you can do so in virtual reality. On Friday, a group of fans known as the Source VR Mod Team released Half-Life 2: VR Mod. As long as you own the original, you can download and play the mod free through Steam.
While it’s currently in public beta, the mod allows you to play through Half-Life 2’s single-player story from start to finish. The Source VR Mod Team integrated a handful of features found in Half-Life: Alyx to modernize the experience and make it playable in VR. For instance, you switch between weapons using the same selection grid found in Valve’s 2020 game.
Other VR-minded tweaks include the addition of optional laser sights, over-the-shoulder ammo storage, manual reloading and two-handed weapon handling. There’s even support for room-scale movement. The Source VR Mod Team says the project isn’t finished, but that hasn’t stopped people from enjoying the experience, with the mod currently holding an Overwhelmingly Positive rating on 732 reviews.
Like Black Mesa before it, Half-Life 2: VR Mod has been a long time coming. As Eurogamer notes, the project was first announced in 2017 and went through development hell before remerging in 2021. The fact you can play it today is thanks to a recent influx of new team members who “revitalized” development.
Fan-made Valorant gun keychains grab Riot’s attention
Valorant gun skins are just one of the reasons that the Riot FPS game has kept atop the charts, but one fan has decided to transcend the digital realm and bring the best of them into the real world as keyrings. You shouldn’t just take our word that they’re amazing, either, as a developer at Riot has given their (unofficial) seal of approval.

Pingu meets Elden Ring thanks to this fan-made Unity project
Remember Pingu? The kids claymation program that was on TV years ago, where the lovable penguin Pingu went out his daily life eating fish and getting yelled at by his dad? Thanks to the work of one Unity developer – Adrian Mendez – Pingu has found a new home far from the arctic as a boss in an Elden Ring inspired project uploaded to the creator’s channels for the world to see.
In the short video (embedded below) you can see a gargantuan Pingu break through the earth draped in red light. With a deep “Noot noot” he quickly raises a flipper and slaps the player character to death in a single strike in a scene eerily familiar to those with some time invested into Elden Ring.
Tragically, this is not a mod we can experience for ourselves. Instead, Mendez built the scene from the group up in Unity, writing in the description of the video: “This is not a game, just a little project. Sometimes I’m bored…” As for the inspiration for this short but sweet vid, Adrian points to a music mix titled ‘Pingu: NOOT NOOT Theme Song but it’s DARK SOULS BOSS MUSIC’ which alters Mozart’s Lacrimosa to better reflect a boss theme suitable for the beloved bird.
