Blundering tourist, 43, fined £415 for driving bright-red Ferrari into world famous Italian square
A BLUNDERING tourist has been fined £415 after driving their bright red Ferrari into a world famous Italian square.
The American holidaymaker drove across the landmark, which is pedestrianised, much to the anger of locals.

The owner of the flash sports car, 43, was apprehended after casually cruising across the Piazza della Signoria, which sits in the historic centre of Florence, Italy.
It is usually packed with tourists, often visiting the Uffizi Gallery, which is home to some of the country’s most famous artwork, particularly a substantial collection of ancient sculptures and paintings.
Cops caught him after he parked up in the nearby Via dei Gondi after driving down the street in what locals officials described as a “nonsensical” manner.
He was fined €470, equivalent to around £415, for the embarrassing gaffe.
The fine was particularly large as a police check revealed that he did not have the correct paperwork to drive the Swiss-registered Ferrari in Italy, let alone on the Piazza.
A spokesperson for the Municipality of Florence said: “Checks revealed that the 43-year-old driver had an American driving license that did not comply with international conventions and did not have an international driving permit or official translation.
“A report was taken for parking in the pedestrian area, driving against the direction and having non-compliant foreign license, the fine was a total of €470, which he paid directly to the agents.”
It comes after an American tourist was fined last year for causing £20,000 worth of damage to Rome’s iconic Spanish Steps by throwing an e-scooter down them.
The unnamed woman was caught on camera hurling the scooter onto the Unesco monument in an apparent tantrum, before throwing it a further two times.
Dog owners warned they could be fined up to £5,000 for breaking little known driving rules
DOG owners have been warned about a car mistake that could set them back £5,000.
Over a third of British drivers who own dogs are unaware of the Highway Code rule, a survey has found.
Dog owners must restrain their pooch while driving[/caption]
All dogs must be restrained in a vehicle using a harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard, according to Rule 57 of the Code.
It states: “When in a vehicle make sure dogs or other animals are suitably restrained so they cannot distract you while you are driving or injure you, or themselves, if you stop quickly.”
If a motorist causes an accident because they are distracted by their dog, they could face an eye-watering £5,000 fine for careless driving.
But research by car marketplace Auto Trader has found that 34 per cent of UK drivers who own dogs are not aware of the rule, the Mirror reported.
Of those claiming to be up-to-date on the Highway Code’s requirements for driving with pets, the poll found only 56 per cent knew the correct rules.
Of the 44 per cent who answered incorrectly, most thought that Rule 57 was either preventing dogs from travelling in the front seat or not allowing pets to stick their head out of the window.
The survey, carried out as part of its Canine Car Report, also found nearly a quarter of drivers with dogs don’t restrain their pooch in a harness or cage.
The researchers worked with Adam Spivey, Director and Master Trainer at Southend Dog Training, for expertise on the best way to restrain pets – to avoid the whopping fines.
Adam said: “We understand the safety regulations of a baby being properly seated in a car; we must understand the same applies to dogs too.
“A crash-tested impact crate is the safest way for any dog to travel – it is something you see the police use with their dogs.
“However, if you can’t do that for any reason then at the very least you must use a very secure seatbelt attachment for your dog.”
Drivers have also been warned not to leave their dogs in freezing cars as temperatures are set to plummet to below zero in the UK this week.
TOP TIPS FOR DRIVING WITH YOUR PET
- The Highway Code recommends using a “seat belt harness, pet carrier, dog cage or dog guard” to restrain animals in the car
- Experts believe using a cage or crate in the boot is the safest way to transport your pet
- Don’t feed your pet within two hours of starting a long car journey to avoid carsickness
- Pack a favourite toy or blanket to give your pet a sense of familiarity
- Use sun shades on the windows when it is hot or the sun is bright and never leave a pet in a hot car
- Always carry a large water bottle (5 litres minimum) in case your pet overheats and needs to be rapidly cooled in an emergency
- Don’t allow your pet to ride with its head hanging out of the window, as it’s potentially dangerous and can cause injury

Nicola Bulley: Social media influencer arrested & fined after joining search for missing mum-of-two
A SOCIAL media influence has been arrested and fined after joining the search for missing mum Nicola Bulley.
Dan Duffey, a TikTok user and amateur sleuth, was slapped with a £90 fine over a public order offence on February 10 after getting involved in the search.
Duffy, from Darwen, Lancashire, filmed the arrest and uploaded it to his YouTube channel, Exploring with Danny.
In the clip he said: “Hi guys, I’m being arrested on a public order offence. They’ve had an allegation.
“As you all know I was in search to find the missing woman Nicola but this is what it’s turning into. No freedom of speech.”
The video showed him dressed in a black vest and handcuffed as a police officer holds his arm.
He was then taken away in a police car, before a title card read: “20 hours in the police station arrested on a public order offence for searching for missing woman Nicola Bulley.”
Duffy was later filmed standing on the back step of a police van, giving the middle finger with both hands.
A final title card revealed that he left with no further charges.
He is one of several social media personalities who have travelled to the site where the 45-year-old mum went missing to try and find her.
Videos from his TikTok account show him searching the sides of the River Wyre, which Nicola is believed to have fallen into, as well as nearby buildings.
One clip shows him in a confrontation with a man believed to be a local resident.
The wannabe investigator has previously been slammed for filming his exploits and profiting from the family’s heartbreak.
It comes after cops issued a warning over amateur detectives and online trolls involving themselves in the case.
A private security firm has been brought in to patrol the village where Nicola was last seen after locals said they felt unsafe.
Police also confirmed on February 15 that Nicola was being treated as a high risk missing person due to “personal vulnerabilities“.
They revealed that they had been called to her family home just weeks before she vanished.
Nicola has been missing since January 27, when she disappeared while walking her dog in St Michael’s on Wyre, Lancashire,
Her partner Her partner Paul Ansell believes “something happened” on the day she disappeared as people do not just “vanish into thin air”.
However, Detective Superintendent Rebecca Smith of Lancashire Police confirmed that the force’s “main working hypothesis” remains that Nicola fell in the river.
But she revealed two other theories for her disappearance – Nicola leaving the area voluntarily and third party involvement.
DS Smith said: “There is not a single piece of information or evidence to suggest there is any third-party involvement.”
There is also nothing to suggest Nicola left the field voluntarily.
Asked if she hoped to find her alive, DS Smith said: “I hope with all my heart that we find Nicola Bulley alive more than anything.”
On Duffy, a spokesperson for the force said: “A 36-year-old man from Darwen was arrested under Section 4 of the Public Order Act – Fear/Provocation of Violence.
“He was given a Fixed Penalty Notice.”
