Collection of 14 classic Ferraris & Mercedes-Benz hidden in garage goes up for sale at auction for eye-watering amount
A COLLECTION of 14 classic cars will go under the hammer next month – expecting to fetch a staggering total of £26million.
The Aurora Collection – featuring 12 Ferraris and two Mercedes-Benz motors – will be sold at auction at the RM Sotheby’s Villa Erba in Italy on May 20.
The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta by Scaglietti is estimated to sell for for the highest price – between €4million and €4.5million (£3.4million and £4million)[/caption]
The 1973 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider by Scaglietti is one of only 122 remaining models[/caption]
The staggering collection had previously been hidden away in a garage by it’s old owner in Sweden.
The offerings were hailed by Anders Bilidt, a car specialist at classic car auction company RM Sotheby’s.
He said: “This is arguably one of the finest single-owner collections in Europe to come to the public market and reaffirms RM Sotheby’s reputation as the pre-eminent auction house for selling high-value single-owner collections.
“Boasting a selection of Ferraris and two Mercedes-Benzes, the pure quality of the individual cars is what makes The Aurora Collection so special.”
The Ferrari being touted to sell for the highest is the 1961 Ferrari 250 GT SWB Berlinetta by Scaglietti, with the 1956 Ferrari 500 TR Spider by Scaglietti nipping on its heels.
The latter is expected to rake in between €4million and €4.5million (£3.4million and £4million).
Other vintage Ferrari models strongly predicted to capture staggering winning bids include the 1973 Ferrari 365 GTS/4 Daytona Spider by Scaglietti – only one of 122 remaining models of the swanky motor.
It is likely to sell for between €2.5million and €3million (£2.2million and £2.6million).
The 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 by Scaglietti, similarly, is touted to put one bidder back €2.7million to €3.2million (£2.4million to £2.8million).
The keys to the remaining vintage Ferraris ready to be handed over include the gorgeous open-top 1965 Ferrari 275 GTS by Pininfarina as well as the stylish 1961 Ferrari 250 GT Cabriolet Series II by Pininfarina.
While the aforementioned motors date back to the fifties, sixties and seventies, more contemporary classics will also be on offer to the highest bidder.
The open-top 2019 Ferrari Monza SP1 is one such model, as is the special edition Ferrari SA Aperta – built to commemorate the 80th anniversary of car design firm Pininfarina.
Also offered is a 2001 Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina estimated to sell for €250k to €320k (£220k to £282k), a 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello in Blue Pozzi over Cuoio – with an estimate of €100k to €150k (£88k to £132k), a 1986 Ferrari Testarossa that shows just 2,125 miles (3,420km) for between €150k and €200k (£132k and £176k), and finally a 2002 Ferrari 360 Spider with a guide price of €75k to €125k (£66k to £110k).
While there is comparatively far less to choose from, one Mercedes-Benz expected to attract a grappling for position in the bidding war is the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL Gullwing.
The 1955 classic is adorned in beautiful silver and is highly regarded – with anything less than €1.2million (£1million) unlikely to be accepted.
The star-studded line-up is rounded off by 1956 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC Roadster, immaculately maintained and on offer for between €600k and €800k (£528k and £704k) when the hammer hits the gavel.

Researchers find severe vulnerabilities in garage door openers and other smart devices
Researcher Sam Sabetan, cooperating with the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), recently published several severe security risks involving Nexx smart home systems. The vulnerabilities allow attackers to quickly seize complete control over garage door openers, smart plugs, and alarm systems from…
Open Garage Doors Anywhere In the World By Exploiting This ‘Smart’ Device
The result: Anyone with a moderate technical background can search Nexx servers for a given email address, device ID, or name and then issue commands to the associated controller. (Nexx controllers for home security alarms are susceptible to a similar class of vulnerabilities.) Commands allow a door to be opened, a device connected to a smart plug to be turned off, or an alarm to be disarmed. Worse still, over the past three months, personnel for Texas-based Nexx haven’t responded to multiple private messages warning of the vulnerabilities.
“Nexx has consistently ignored communication attempts from myself, the Department of Homeland Security, and the media,” Sabetan wrote in a post published on Tuesday. “Device owners should immediately unplug all Nexx devices and create support tickets with the company requesting them to remediate the issue.” Sabetan estimates that more than 40,000 devices, located in residential and commercial properties, are impacted, and more than 20,000 individuals have active Nexx accounts.

GTA Weekly Online Update Adds Big Garage And More Los Santos Drug Wars Activities
GTA Online’s weekly update is here, and it comes with a new multi-floor garage that can store 50 vehicles. Each floor’s hangout areas are customizable with different decoration styles. GTA+ members can get the garage for free until March 15. Otherwise, players can purchase the garage from Dynasty 8’s in-game website.
Los Santos Drug Wars
There are new activities this week related to Los Santos Drug Wars, including new daily Stash House locations. Players can rob these safehouses and defeat enemies for GTA$ and product. There are also daily G’s Cache dead drops scattered around the city. They contain GTA$, ammunition, and snacks. Successful retrievals of the packages earn players 50% extra bonus GTA$ and RP.
In more drug trade activities, players also get extra 50% GTA$ by selling dealers drugs. Dealers will offer premiums on specific drugs they’d prefer, so players can earn extra cash by selling them the drugs they want.
Twitter is hosting a garage sale (kind of)
Have you ever wanted to buy 68 Belkin power strips that once belonged to Twitter? Well, first, I’d say you have some pretty specific tastes, but guess what? You are in luck.
Twitter, under the sterling leadership of maverick/boygenius Elon Musk, is selling off assets from its San Francisco headquarters. It’s a wild collection of weird, mundane objects, including that large stack of power strips.
At the time of this writing, there were just a few hours left on the online auction from Heritage Global Partners, so peruse and get your bids in while you’re still able. The range of things to buy was pretty interesting, considering tech giants long made it a point to have offices well stocked with food, booze, coffee, and fancy furniture. There’s the neon Twitter bird with a current bid past $35,000. There’s six fake leather chairs somehow getting a $1,000 bid. An @ sculpture for $12,000. A single Eames chair for $1,400. Or, a personal favorite, the industrial food smoker for $700.
The sale comes amid financial woes for Twitter, which has struggled under Musk’s unpredictable leadership. The company reportedly has a massive interest bill coming due, which might explain the slew of cost-cutting measures employed by Musk, including this garage sale of sorts, firing half the staff, and apparently straight-up refusing to pay rent.
The bids on these used Twitter items do seem pretty ridiculous thus far — in some cases, people are paying more for used items than they would cost new. So perhaps this is a big step forward for Musk in his bid to keep his new toy afloat. If you want to contribute, go ahead and bid. And if anyone wants to buy me a smoker… I’m all ears.
