As Hitman takes a hiatus, IO Interactive shares details of its James Bond game
We might not be getting a new Hitman for a while, but IO Interactive does have a James Bond game on the way, and has shared a few more details.
IO Interactive’s Bond game was first announced almost three years ago, and we haven’t really heard much about it since then. The studio also recently shared that Hitman is on a bit of a hiatus, at least in terms of a new game. But in an interview with Eurogamer though, chief creative officer and co-owner of IO Interactive Christian Elverdam and fellow co-owner Hakan Abrak have shared some new details on the upcoming Bond game, mostly to do with how they approached building an origin story, and pitching the story in the first place.
“First of all, it’s extremely awe-inspiring and literally just inspiring to work with the team at Eon [Productions], the people who are behind everything Bond,” Elverdam said, going on to note how he’s “used to defending Agent 47,” in terms of how other people might want to adapt the Hitman series (the games have received more than one film adaptation, none of which being hugely well received).

Hitman is ‘a little bit on hiatus’ as IO Interactive focuses on James Bond and its new fantasy RPG
Hitman studio IO Interactive is working on an online fantasy RPG
IO Interactive has revealed the first details for their upcoming unannounced game, code name “Project Fantasy“.
This is a brand new IP for console and PC, with the team at IO Interactive currently recruiting positions to help shape the project it says will “revolutionize the online fantasy RPG genre.”
This is likely the fantasy title rumored to be in development back in 2021. It is said to take place in a medieval setting, features dragons, and is set in a large world. Reportedly, the game is to be pubished by Microsoft.
Hitman Freelancer Safe Codes: How To Open Safes In Any Level
Hitman Freelancer mode, which adds a new roguelite structure to the many huge levels this trilogy has produced since 2016, has been an unquestionable delight. But it doesn’t always explain itself well, often saving tutorial prompts for after you’ve already tried something.
For most of the new features that’s fine, but it’s left lots of folks in the dark on how to deal with these new safes that regularly appear on each map. There’s an icon on your mini-map telling you where the safe is, and it lights up when you use Agent 47’s hitman vision–but when you actually approach the thing it just tells you that you need three codes to open it, with no guidance for where one would get these codes.
There are two ways to open these safes: by finding those codes and opening it the normal way, or by using explosives to blow them open. We’ll walk you through the more clandestine way first.
Hitman Freelancer: Tips For Agent 47’s Awesome Roguelite Mode
Whether you’re a Hitman veteran or a more recent convert who just got their start in this World of Assassination, the new roguelite Freelancer mode is gonna force feed you a slice of humble pie and make you feel like a fake gamer. That’s a good thing–this mode is, in essence, the endgame for this rebooted Hitman trilogy. Short of actual new maps, Hitman Freelancer is a great way to tie this experience off because it’s extremely tough in some brand-new ways, and the overall structure is very different from what we’re used to thanks to the new framework.
Before, each mission was completely self-contained. Nothing you did in one mission would matter in the next. But in Freelancer, death has consequences: you lose everything you had in your inventory, and half of the money you’ve been earning for jobs. Not to mention you might have to start over from scratch.
But succeeding at Hitman Freelancer is not impossible, and the learning curve isn’t as steep as it may seem at first. So much of it is just about getting a handle on what’s important and what isn’t. That would take hours if you just dive in head first without guidance–a delightful experience, and the way we went about procuring our understanding of this mode, but not everybody has the time.
