Hyper Light Breaker trailer shows off first gameplay in ‘infinite open worlds’
Hyper Light Breaker goes into Steam Early Access this fall, first gameplay trailer released
The first gameplay trailer for Hyper Light Breaker, the Hyper Light 3D co-op rogue-lite adventure from Heart Machine, has been released.
The new co-op rogue-lite adventure is set in the Hyper Light Drifter universe, but set decades prior to Drifter. In this, you take on the role of a Breaker to help establish a settlement in a new frontier.
Using a combination of hack-and-slash combat, ranged weaponry and gadgets, you will fight through and explore a varitey of procedurally-generated open worlds. Try to not only protect the Settlement, but uncover the dark truths of the Crowns, The Abyss King, and the brutal landscape.
Hyper Light Breaker’s first gameplay trailer teases a beautiful, action-packed roguelike
Hyper Light Breaker, Heart Machine’s 3D action-adventure follow-up to indie hit Hyper Light Drifter, got a thrilling new gameplay trailer on Tuesday and a fall 2023 release window for early access availability on Steam.
Hyper Light Drifter is renowned for its challenging 2D action that smartly juggles melee and ranged combat, and Breaker looks like it will carry over that finely tuned action into a much more expansive experience. Unlike Drifter, which was a 2D game in a set game world, Breaker is a roguelike that takes place in both handcrafted and procedurally generated environments. However, like Drifter, you’ll be able to play Breaker with a friend.
Based on the trailer, the art design in Hyper Light Breaker looks awesome, with lots…
Hyper Light Breaker’s first gameplay trailer shows off stylish action and fast-paced traversal
Last year, developer Heart Machine announced they were adapting the 2D pixelated action of Hyper Light Drifter for their 3D co-op sequel, Hyper Light Breaker. Earlier in January, we learned that Breaker’s roguelike structure would include procedurally generated open worlds, and we’ve now seen them in action thanks to its first gameplay trailer. Breaker doesn’t look as effortlessly stylish as its predecessor, but its bullet-hell action and fast-paced traversal have me eager to learn more when it launches into early access this Fall.
Day 3 CES Video Roundup: Chargers From Hyper and Zendure, Lenovo’s iPad Pro-Like Tablet and Multi-Display Laptop, Plus More
Lenovo had a “Tab Extreme” tablet and keyboard folio that’s suspiciously iPad Pro like, but it comes with a 14.5-inch OLED display, giving us a preview of what we might expect when Apple opts for OLED technology. Lenovo also had some nifty e-ink color tablets and also the Yoga Book 9i, a laptop/tablet hybrid with two displays instead of one and a detachable Bluetooth keyboard.
Chefling showed off cameras that go in your refrigerator or your pantry for monitoring what foods you’re low on, and Hyper had a range of chargers and hubs on display. Hyper’s USB-C media hub for the iPad was of particular interest because it puts media controls front and center, which is nice because the iPad Magic Keyboard does not offer media keys. It also has ports available, including a USB-A port, microSD slot, and headphone jack.
Targus had an ambidextrous mouse that can swap between left and right-handed orientation, and Zendure had a massive $4,000 battery charger on display. Nex demoed its NexMonitor, a unique setup that’s meant to work with the Mac mini, and Lockly had fingerprint-reading locks.
Victrola featured its Stream and Carbon Onyx turntables, which allow vinyl records to be streamed to Sonos speakers, and Sony and Honda showed off a prototype vehicle.

Withings had a sensor that goes in your toilet to monitor your urine, and Samsung had a 5K Viewfinity S9 display, its first 5K monitor to compete with the Apple Studio Display. Why Hyper Demon’s devs suggest you slow down to speed up
Devil Daggers was fantastic, Hyper Demon is better. The sequel to Sorath’s exquisite wave survival FPS flips a slow-building, protracted struggle into a hyperdense spurt of action that escalates in lockstep with your abilities, thanks to enemies that spawn the moment you’ve dispatched their chums and a score that ticks down with every second you spend not actively murdering.
That structure is also a trap. It’s an invitation to devise an opening dance that dispatches those first few waves as quickly as possible, yet following that dance too rigidly will crash you headfirst into a bonespire. Hyper Demon screams at you to go fast – though when I asked programmer Matt Bush for tips, he suggested I slow down.
