Conservative social media platform Parler acquired and then immediately shut down by new owner
Parler has been acquired. Parler has also just been shut down.
On Friday, the digital media company Starboard announced that it had acquired Parler, the conservative social media platform. According to Starboard, the deal went through on Good Friday and it bought Parler for an undisclosed amount.
Following Starboard’s announcement on Friday, the company immediately shut down Parler’s website. A note on Parler.com reads “no reasonable person believes that a Twitter clone just for conservatives is a viable business any more.”
To be clear though, this isn’t an anti-conservative statement from Starboard. It’s strictly business. Starboard’s statement goes on to praise former Parler CEO George Farmer for Parler’s more recent move into providing alternative IT and cloud services solutions through its former parent company Parlament Technologies.
“We focus on working with groups that are advocating for or otherwise advancing conservative causes or conservative beliefs,” Starboard CEO Ryan Coyne told the Daily Caller News Foundation in 2021, back when Starboard was known as Olympic Media.
According to its social media platforms, Starboard offers digital marketing and ad agency services. In that same 2021 Daily Caller piece, the agency previously worked with current and former Republican Congress members like Jim Jordan, Elise Stefanik, and Madison Cawthorn and conservative organizations like Turning Point USA.
“Parler’s large user base and additional strategic assets represent an enormous opportunity for Starboard to continue to build aggressively in our media and publishing business,” Starboard CEO Ryan Coyne said in a statement. “The team at Parler has built an exceptional audience and we look forward to integrating that audience across all of our existing platforms.”
Starboard says it’s going to use its acquisition to assess how the company can “begin servicing unsupported online communities.”
Parler grew in popularity following the 2020 presidential election as right-wing users sought out a more-friendly outlet to discuss conspiracy theories and share their anger over former president Donald Trump’s electoral defeat. The platform gained notoriety in the lead-up and immediate aftermath of the events of January 6th, 2021. On-the-ground media posted on Parler by Trump supporters as they stormed the Capitol building quickly spread on the internet.
Due to the hateful rhetoric found on the website, Apple and Google removed Parler’s mobile app from the App Store and Google Play store. Although Apple and Google eventually allowed Parler back after the social media platform implemented new content moderation rules, Parler’s popularity among its user base waned. New conservative platforms like Trump’s Truth Social quickly took its place as the preferred social media alternative. After a potential acquisition by Kanye West fell through, Parler laid off most of its employees earlier this year.
Apparently, there were still some users faithful to Parler who were upset by Starboard’s decision to abruptly close the platform.
“You closed the site without previous notice. Unbelievable,” wrote one user in the replies to Starboard’s Instagram announcement of its Parler purchase, complete with clown emojis.
“Thanks for the advanced warning,” replied another.
Parler’s new owner immediately took the social network offline
Months after Ye dropped his bid, Parler has a new owner… and is out of commission for the time being. Starboard, the owner of pro-conservative news outlets like American Wire News, has shut down Parler on a temporary but indefinite basis after completing its acquisition of the social network from Parlement Technologies. The buyer says it will conduct a “strategic assessment” of the platform during the downtime, and hopes to integrate Parler’s audience into all its existing channels.
Starboard isn’t shy about its strategy. While it still sees a market for communities that believe they’ve been censored or marginalized, it considers a Parler revamp virtually necessary. “No reasonable person believes that a Twitter clone just for conservatives is a viable business any more,” the company says.
Parler launched in 2018 as a self-proclaimed free speech alternative to Twitter, which some conservatives claim is biased against right-wing views. It had few rules or moderation controls. Like Gab, though, it also became a haven for people with extreme views. Parler drew flak in January 2021 after word that people involved in the Capitol attack used the social platform to coordinate. Apple and Google kicked Parler off their respective app stores until it improved moderation and kept out users inciting violence.
Ye offered to buy Parler from Parlement in late 2022 after being banned from Twitter for antisemitic posts, but called off the deal in mid-November through a mutual agreement that cited the star’s “business difficulties” as a factor. Soon after, Parlement laid off most of its staff. The firm is pivoting to cloud services for businesses that believe they could be knocked offline for their content.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Starboard chief Ryan Coyne says he expects to keep users on Parler despite rivalries with other sites, such as former President Trump’s Truth Social. However, the absence of a revival date doesn’t leave members many options. For now, they’ll have to use other platforms to express themselves.

I have big boobs – they make every outfit I wear ‘immediately sexual,’ I think God let me down but others disagree
AS WOMEN with big boobs know, it can be just as much of a struggle as being flat-chested.
One curvy 24-year-old said her large chest got in the way of her attempt to be fashionable.
Summer Morgan (@summerkmorgan) posted a TikTok video in which she complained about her body because of the disservice it did to her outfit choices.
In the clip, she wore a fitted, low-cut, white crop top that revealed her ample cleavage.
She pretended to speak on the phone while using the popular TikTok voiceover that said, “How could you do this to me?”
As for what she was talking about?
“Me asking God why he had to give me big boobs so that every outfit I wear immediately becomes sexual,” she wrote.
In the caption, Summer further explained the problems her bust creates.
“I swear I can’t wear anything form fitting without people telling me I’m begging for attention. AND MINE AREN’T EVEN THAT BIG.
“I just want to be fashionable.”
Some viewers in the comments section sympathized with her issue.
“Girl I have the same problem and all the looks I get att the gym,” one woman wrote, alongside crying emojis.
“Literally like what are we supposed to wear in the summer because EVERYTHING looks provocative. I just want to wear a cami top,” added another.
“It’s so hard to find tops and dresses that work,” a third pointed out.
Those on the opposite end of the spectrum, however, said they wish they had her issue.
“Wanna trade?” one viewer asked, to which Summer said “Yes.”
“I’ll do anything for this,” a second chimed in.
“I’m the opposite. I wish everyday for something because my shirts never fit me. I get bullied and never feel feminine,” a third revealed.
