Apple’s New Beats Studio Buds+ Likely to Be Announced Tomorrow
Key new features of the Studio Buds+ are expected to include a transparent design option like the Nothing Ear (2) earbuds, up to 36 hours of battery life with the included USB-C charging case, and 3x larger microphones and up to 1.6× as much active noise cancellation as the original Studio Buds that launched in 2021. The earbuds will be priced at $169.95 in the U.S., according to a since-removed Amazon listing.
Beats Studio Buds+ are a sportier alternative to the AirPods Pro, and have a more compact design without “stems” that drop below the ears. The earbuds will also be available in Black and Ivory color options, and have XS, S, M, and L ear tip size options for a wider range of ears, the Amazon listing and leaked photos revealed.
Studio Buds+ were first discovered in iOS 16.4 beta code last month, and they have also surfaced in FCC filings and other regulatory databases around the world. Apple acquired Beats in 2014 for $3 billion, gaining ownership of both the Beats Electronics headphones line and the Beats Music streaming music service that led to Apple Music.
Rumors suggest new Beats Studio Pro over-ear headphones will also be launching soon, but it’s unclear if they will be announced tomorrow.

Gurman: iPhone 16 Pro ‘Likely’ to Include Haptic Buttons
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman this weekend confirmed that Apple has nixed haptic buttons, and will instead introduce them next year. Gurman says Apple has been “wavering” on the feature because of the costs and the complexity. While internal test models still have the functionality at the current time, Apple is “likely” to hold solid-state technology until the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro.
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has also claimed that Apple plans to hold solid-state buttons until the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro models, with Kuo attributing the delay to “unresolved technical issues before mass production.” Solid-state buttons will be limited to next year’s iPhone 16 Pro models, while the more affordable iPhone 16 models will retain the same volume button design as the iPhone 14 and the upcoming iPhone 15.
With the transition to solid-state buttons, Apple planned to change the design of the volume controls, adopting a single, unified button rather than a dual button design. That design change seems to be tied to the swap to haptic technology, and so the iPhone 15 Pro models will use the standard two button look for volume.
We are still expecting one notable design change, though, with Apple to adopt a mute button instead of a mute switch. The mute button could serve as an “Action” button similar to the Action button on the Apple Watch Ultra, with the option to program it to perform different functions.

HomePod Mini Launches in Denmark, Likely Ruling Out New Model in Near Future
Apple first released the HomePod mini in October 2020 in the U.S. and select other countries, and the speaker and has not received any major hardware upgrades since, but new color options launched in November 2021 and the speaker’s temperature and humidity sensor was enabled earlier this year. The launch of the HomePod mini in Denmark today likely rules out a second-generation model of the speaker launching in the near future.
Apple had discontinued the full-size HomePod in 2021, but the company introduced a second-generation model in January. The new HomePod features a similar design as the original smart speaker, with a larger backlit touch surface and a few other improvements. Despite having two fewer tweeters, reviews found the new HomePod sounds virtually the same as the original, but Siri still has shortcomings compared to other virtual assistants.
(Thanks, Kasper!)
