An Apex Legends “Lore Bomb” Is Dropping In Season 17
Apex Legends Season 17: Arsenal is nearly here, with less than 24 hours to go before the new season–and all of its wild new features–become available to the playerbase. But with all the focus on the seasonal update’s meta-altering changes and Apex’s stylish new legend, it can be easy to miss the limited-yet-fascinating information we have on Season 17’s upcoming plot developments.
Players have, of course, gotten to know Season 17’s new legend, Ballistic, quite well. From the suggestion that he may be taking an anti-aging medication created by Silva Pharmaceuticals to the revelation that Pathfinder was once his housekeeper, players already know Ballistic is full of surprises. But Respawn says even more impactful lore is on the way this season.
During a Season 17 preview event attended by GameSpot, Respawn’s team of developers walked attendees through everything there is to know about Ballistic, including details about his design (animating his jacket was surprisingly difficult) and his personality (“James Bond meets John Wick”). But during the post-preview Q & A session, Respawn answered one of our questions with an intriguing surprise: A “lore bomb” is about to drop in Apex Legends.
Apex Legends Ballistic – Abilities, Lore, And Everything We Know
Apex Legends‘ latest episode of Stories From The Outlands, titled “Encore,” has finally introduced players to Apex’s 24th legend: August “Ballistic” Brinkman, a former Thunderdome champion who retired from the Games after tragedy struck. But now he’s un-retiring, determined to take his son’s place in the Apex Games.
Although we don’t currently know much about the seasoned bloodsport champion, Encore contains loads of context clues that–combined with leaked details regarding his in-game abilities–paint a much clearer picture of the silver-haired legend. Keep reading for a closer look at the newest character slated to hit Apex Legends when Season 17: Arsenal goes live on May 9.
Unconfirmed: Abilities
All leaks should, of course, be taken with a large grain of salt. That said, Apex Legends dataminers seem to have unearthed a list of Ballistic’s in-game abilities, which are listed below. While the legitimacy of these abilities is questionable, each of them make a good fit for Ballistic, so it’s quite possible they’re real.
Official Apex Legends Lore Hub Will Help New Players Catch Up
Apex Legends Season 16: Revelry launched today, bringing a massive amount of new content to the game. But between the excitement over team deathmatch‘s long-awaited arrival and the new Remastered Legend Classes system, it’s easy to miss one of the best new additions to the game: an official lore hub.
Respawn’s vision for Season 16 was partially focused on improving new players’ gameplay experience, with plans to update the Firing Range, add a better tutorial, and implement Orientation Matches to help new players get familiar with the world of Apex Legends. But gameplay isn’t the only experience Apex offers–the game also has an ongoing narrative that intertwines the stories of all 23 legends, and has been told in various formats, from YouTube’s Stories From The Outlands series to various comics (both digital and physical).
Apex’s expansive storyline is now so complicated that trying to even explain the context of the game’s current events can be difficult. For newcomers, taking inventory of Apex’s many, many plot threads can be overwhelming. The 23-character roster alone makes keeping track of things difficult, but another part of the problem was the fact after each season’s storyline ended, there was no way to access that season’s storyline. Over the last four years, Apex fans on /r/ApexUncovered and wikis hosted by Fandom (Gamespot’s sister site) have meticulously archived and cataloged each season’s in-game comic or story, along with links to Twitter comics and other lore sources. Ultimately, new players who wanted to know “the whole story” had to devote a significant amount of time to researching the events of past seasons. But with today’s unveiling of Respawn’s official Apex Legends Lore Hub, all of that changed.
BIGFOOT Lore From the APPALACHIAN TRAIL
A frequent Appalachian Trail hiker describes the variety of supposed Bigfoot howls that he has heard while on the trail. He also recalls some of the past unexplained incidents on the AT.
The following account was recently forwarded to me:
“I’m a frequent hiker on the Appalachian Trail near my home in southwestern Virginia. I love being outdoors. I’ve also been a Bigfoot enthusiast for most of my life but my obsession with the subject is relatively recent. But I never thought I’d have any confirmation of their existence for myself. The following incident is true and can be corroborated by multiple witnesses.
I and a small crew of friends section hike the Appalachian Trail. The first time I heard a Bigfoot call happened when the three of us were hiking together. We decided to stay the night in one of the AT shelters for the first evening. I’m not fond of staying in shelters. The hard wooden shelter floors are rough on my back and I needed to get a good sleep if I’m going to have an enjoyable day of hiking.
The next night I pitched my tent behind the shelter and immediately made my bed and laid down. I was very tired. I had a snack and I was soon dozing off. There were two other groups of section hikers staying at and around the shelter that night. One was a group of three guys who all stayed in the shelter and the other was a couple of middle-aged women. Everyone was fixing dinner and chatting while I lay quietly in my tent. Down the hill from the shelter was a creek. So between the conversations, the camp stoves loudly boiling water for dinners, and the creek it was kind of noisy in front of the shelter. I was behind it so it was easier for me to hear the sounds of the vast woods in the distance.
Out toward the ridge, I hear this call. It’s a howl, but I don’t know how to describe it but it was unusual. There was a dramatic tone change that lasted for a long duration. I had never heard anything like it before. It was far enough away, that I couldn’t hear it very well. After a while, I did hear it again. This time, there were other calls along with it. I listened closely, but I was so tired that I dozed off.
I was sleeping lightly and the next howl woke me up. It had moved. It was across the creek in front of the shelter and down the trail coming from where we had been earlier in the day. The howl was too long and too loud to be a man. A pack of coyotes joined in from the distance. After that all was quiet and I fell asleep. I didn’t dare get out of my tent. I wasn’t scared but I was cautious.
The next morning we all got up as usual and started making breakfast. I brought up the subject from the previous night’s howls. Immediately one of the guys with the other group said that they’d been backpacking for 20 years and they had never heard anything like that. Then one of the ladies in the third group walked up and she said that she and her friends had been talking about it. She was sure that it was a Bigfoot. I’m glad that she said it and not me.
Later on, before we all got back on the trail, the same woman told me that the subject of Bigfoot is not usually discussed by AT hikers. There have been a few harrowing encounters not far from where we were, mainly in the George Washington National Forest. One hiker was supposedly attacked and killed by an unknown beast. Also, there had been rumors of Men in Black or government agents harassing hikers in the past.
I’m not sure about what she told me, but I later read about many unexplained incidents occurring on the Appalachian Trail. I’m much more cautious from here on out. M”

Destiny 2 lore means this weapon’s sentience is now canon
Some Destiny 2 lore theorists say a weapon’s recently-gained sentience should now be construed as cannon in the game world. Telesto recently began shooting out starburst patterns before seemingly taking over the game’s official Twitter account. Though Bungie developers say the issues with Telesto have now “been resolved,” the weapon itself should now be canonically known to be capable of sentience and may be something the space game‘s narrative team chooses to reference in the future.
