David Gaider says making mythological musical Stray Gods was “a little bit more complicated” than expected
What can I say? I love games that have a bit of a sing-song. I’ve enjoyed the pop platforming of Sayonara Wild Hearts, the DIY DJ-ing in Fuser, the grungy game-meets-album Teenage Blob, and the recently released fist-pumping robot-thrashing Hi-Fi Rush just to name some from the top of my noggin’.
Music is a definitely big part of these games, but Stray Gods: A Roleplaying Musical has set itself on a different kind of musical path, in that it’s actually a musical. I’m talking like a full-on ballad-belter, curtain-caller, exit-stage-left-er musical. And get this: it’s also a modern retelling of the mythos behind the Greek Gods. It feels like my inner theatre kid has chugged ten Red Bulls and is waiting for her cue to burst out.
Spotify Is Bringing a Musical Element to BeReal
BeReal is jumping on the Spotify bandwagon by integrating the music streaming service as a feature on its platform. The app was released in 2020 and marketed itself as an authentic alternative to other social media platforms by prompting users at a random time to post about what they’re doing at that exact moment.
The musical RPG from the former lead writer of Dragon Age finally gets a release date
Dragon Age writer’s musical RPG Stray Gods has an August release date
Dragon Age writer David Gaider’s new adventure game Stray Gods: The Roleplaying Musical will now hit the stage on August 3rd. It was formerly known as Chorus – and presumably changed its name to avoid sharing an RPS tag with Chorvs – but after reaching its crowdfunding goals and finding a publisher, Stray Gods is ready for the limelight.

A Highland Song gives Death Stranding a musical run for its money
A belated apology to anyone who was assaulted by a sudden burst of upbeat bagpipes in the GDC press room the other week. I was having an early sneak peak at Inkle’s new game A Highland Song in an appointment booth with paper-thin walls and no ceiling. The speakers on my Steam Deck demo unit were really going “full pipe” that day, so I’d like to say a big awkward sorry to any of my neighbours in there who were trying to conduct actual serious business interviews.
But also: A Highland Song is 100% a game that deserves to have its music cranked up to full, whether it’s returning Heaven’s Vault composer Laurence Chapman’s soaring orchestral score, or Scottish bands Talisk and Fourth Moon’s aforementioned folk music. The clue’s in the name, after all, and after a spirited 30 minutes with it, I’m certain this will have Inkle fans singing from the hilltops.
Inside Control’s “musical puzzle” level and the rise of in-game bands
If you’ve liked the audio work in action-adventure games like Control, Evil West, and the upcoming multiplayer extraction shooter Hyenas, then you’ll be a fan of the work from audio director Justin Andree. PCGamesN managed to grab Andree for a chat while at WASD 2023 in London, and we asked them all about how Control’s best musical moment came to be, and what to expect from Hyenas music later this year.
