The GTA series blazes past the 420 million sales mark, as Rockstar gets ready to unleash ST-Ds on Los Santos
Good news, people who like mildly funny numbers (it’s me, I’m people), the GTA series has now surpassed the 420 million mark in terms of total sales, and Take-Two has revealed that to us just as Rockstar is about make ST-Ds available to the GTA Online masses.
Yup, we all might have recovered from the GTA 6 mania that gripped the world at the tail end of last year, when that trailer arrived in our lives, got us thinking about Tom Petty, and brought out the amateur detective in almost everyone, but GTA things are still happening in Los Santos. And the series’ sales numbers are also continuing to push the boundaries of what’s comprehensible, having now reached a value that the goth kids from your college would no doubt appreciate.
As part of its latest earnings call, the aftermath of which saw Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick tell IGN that Rockstar’s parent company has “no current plans” regarding layoffs, it shared some tastefully-assembled presentation slides featuring the latest sales numbers for the biggest titles in its portfolio. As expected, GTA’s leading the way, having now “sold-in over 420 million units”, with GTA 5 alone rapidly lurching towards the 200 million sales mark.
Fake LastPass App Sneaks Past Apple’s Review Team
The “LassPass Password Manager” app was somehow approved by Apple’s App Store review team, even though it appears to clearly mimic the LastPass app. It doesn’t use exactly the same icon and the name is a letter off, but the similarities could confuse some LastPass users.
It is unclear if the fake LassPass app is attempting to steal login information from users, but it does have options for adding passwords, email accounts, addresses, bank accounts, credit cards, debit cards, and more. It doesn’t ask for a LastPass login of any kind, but it is possible that the developer can see information added to the app.
There is also a “PRO” upgrade that costs $1.99 per month, $9.99 per year, or $49.99 for a “lifetime” subscription, so the aim of the app may be collecting subscription money from customers. Either way, LastPass users should be aware of the fake app and should avoid it. At best it is aiming to steal money, and at worst, it is stealing passwords and credit card information.
Clone apps often make their way into the App Store, but the app impersonating LastPass is particularly concerning because it could be accessing sensitive information. It is not clear how an app mimicking one of the most popular password management apps was approved by Apple, and its discovery comes at a critical time for the company.
Apple has been promoting the safety and security of the App Store as it prepares to allow for alternate app marketplaces in the European Union, and allowing a fake password management app onto the App Store is not a good look.
LastPass says that it is working to get the clone app removed from the App Store. Though LastPass published its alert yesterday, and presumably contacted Apple at the same time, the app remains in the App Store as of now.
Update 11:00 a.m. Pacific Time: The LassPass app has been removed from the App Store.

GTA Sells 5M Copies In Past 3 Months, Jumps To 180 Million In Total Sales
Take-Two Interactive, the parent company of Rockstar Games, has revealed that GTA 5 has sold over 180 million units. Even more impressive is five million of these were only sold within the last three months, nearly a decade after the game was first released.
The news comes from Take-Two’s latest earnings report, which stated that GTA 5 has reached over one billion dollars in retail sales “faster than any entertainment release in history.” The report also states that the franchise has sold over 400 million units and that “active development for the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series is well underway.” Although no date was given for the next GTA, it’s known that Rockstar has been working on another installment. Late last year, a massive leak showed off early gameplay footage and screenshots of GTA 6.
In addition to GTA 5 reaching over 180 million units, the Red Dead Redemption series has also seen continued success. The franchise has sold over 75 million units worldwide, while Red Dead Redemption 2 has sold over 53 million units and is the second best-selling title in the US based on dollar sales in the last five years.
Pew: 60% of U.S. Twitter users have ‘taken a break’ from the platform in the past year
A new study by Pew Research Center paints a picture of a pause in Twitter usage by U.S. adults, but the data doesn’t necessarily point the finger at Elon Musk’s takeover of the social media platform as the source of the blame. Instead, Pew’s survey of U.S. adults, which was conducted over a week in […]
