Fury as nearly 3,000 town hall penpushers earn £100,000-plus in pay and perks
NEARLY three thousand town hall penpushers earn £100,000-plus in pay and perks.
Some 721 of the 2,759 bureaucrats received more than £150,000 for the past year, research reveals.
Staggeringly, 165 of these made more than PM Rishi Sunak’s £164,951 salary, with one mandarin at Guildford Borough Council landing £607,633 — the most for any town hall worker.
The deal included pension contributions of £339,158, the TaxPayers’ Alliance found.
Next highest paid, at £570,000, was Sunderland’s executive director of neighbourhoods.
The amounts come amid recent reports of some councils in England taking up to 18 months to fix potholes.
TaxPayers’ Alliance boss John O’Connell said: “Many authorities continue with extremely generous pay and perks, like bonuses and golden goodbyes.
“Local people, meanwhile, are facing record council tax rises and a financial squeeze.
“They want to be sure they’re getting value for money.”
The Local Government Association said it was important to retain “the right people with the right skills” to help large, complex councils operate.
It added: “Senior pay is always decided by democratically elected councillors.”
Guildford Borough and Sunderland City Councils both said their bumper payments reflected the recipients’ long service.

In its Q4 earnings call on Wednesday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg described the company’s near future priorities and plans, painting a picture of a tech giant that’s driving toward leaning down and speeding up. The company beat revenue expectations in the final quarter of 2022, […]

Twitter Blue perks now include higher ranking replies and 60-minute video uploads
Twitter Blue has enabled new perks for subscribers including “prioritized rankings in conversations” and video uploads up to 60 minutes in length, according to an updated feature list spotted by TechCrunch. Both features were promised by Elon Musk last month when he said Blue subscribers who pay $8 per month would get “priority in replies, mentions & search” and the ability to post long videos.
Reply priority is now in effect, with the support page stating that “this feature prioritizes your replies on Tweets that you interact with.” That seems to be the case on severaltweets I looked at, with Twitter Blue subscribers (many with few followers) appearing as the top replies. It’s not clear if users paying $8 per month will always appear at the top in replies, or whether or factors are also used.
soon, subscribers with the blue checkmark will get priority ranking in search, mentions, and replies to help lower the visibility of scams, spam and bots
— Twitter Blue (@TwitterBlue) December 12, 2022
Twitter support said earlier that priority rankings will “help lower the visibility of scams, spam and bots.” However, some users have expressed concern that the new system will lower the experience for non-paying users, or that paid priority might help spammers, trolls and others amplify their messages.
The new video rules will boost length from 10 minutes and 512MB to 60 minutes and 2GB at up to 1080p resolution, though only on the web — the 10-minute rule still applies to Android and iOS users. Twitter also notes that it may “modify or adapt your original video for distribution, syndication, publication or broadcast by us and our partners” or change the bitrate/resolution depending on a viewer’s internet speeds.
Musk said that Twitter will eventually pay creators for uploaded videos, noting that it might even exceed the 55 percent cut that YouTube offers. However, it hasn’t said whether that will be done with ads or other means. It’s also not clear how it may address piracy issues, given that much of its moderation team has been let go or quit.
Xbox Game Pass Perks For Valorant, League Of Legends, And More Riot Games Coming Soon
Riot Games’ partnership with Xbox Game Pass was announced during the Xbox showcase back in June. And now that we’re nearing the date select PC and mobile Riot games will arrive on the service, the in-game perks for players have been officially announced.
Riot’s League of Legends, League of Legends Wild Rift, Legends of Runeterra, Teamfight Tactics, and Valorant will all be available on Xbox Game Pass starting December 12. Notably, for both League of Legends games and Valorant, Game Pass players will have access to all agents and champions, along with a 20% EXP boost. Though for Wild Rift, the bonuses will not come until January.
Players who want to just try out Riot’s popular games will benefit from the automatically unlocked full roster of playable characters and EXP bonus. Usually, unlocking characters takes grinding, but with Game Pass, players can skip that process. See the full list of bonuses at the end of the article for more information.

Looking for all of those pesky Evil West unique chests? You can find these treasure troves throughout the campaign, tucked away in nooks behind explosives or on platforms you need to shoot down chains to reach. These chests mostly contain skins to change your appearance, but you can also obtain new perks and upgrades.
If you miss any Evil West unique chests, it’s not the end of the world. Head into the Lore section of the pause menu at any time and go to the tab with the exclamation point. Select the mission from the list below. You’ll start again from The Calico or the beginning of the level. You can either select ‘return to main progress’ from the same menu or finish the mission to warp back to where you left off in the action-adventure game.
