Pill Baby successfully fuses surreal drama with monster kicking
There are so many ways to cut this cake. I could call it a weird game, and bang on about those for a bit. I could call it a 2D beat ’em up with your classic heavy/light attacks (actually punch/kick, but whatever), which is important to mention. It’s also tempting to namedrop the things it reminded me of, like Hotline Miami, Beraltors, and a tiny hint of The Cat Lady, but that could get you picturing just about anything, and is unfairly reductive to a game that has the right to stand on its own.
Pill Baby is, obviously, all those things. It’s far better and more coherent than any of those descriptions would make it sound.

iPhone 14 Pro’s two hole-punch cutouts may look like a single ‘wide pill’
Apple’s big annual iPhone event is only a few days away and we’ll soon find out exactly what the company has up its sleeve. In the meantime, the rumor mill is still churning away. The latest word on the street concerns the dual hole-punch cutouts that the iPhone 14 Pro is expected to have.
According to 9to5Mac and MacRumors (with corroboration from Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman), Apple will fill the gap between the cutouts with a blacked-out area of the screen, making it appear to be a single “wide pill-shaped cutout.” Also interesting is what Apple seemingly plans to do with that section of the display.
The reports suggest iPhone 14 Pro will move the privacy indicators for the camera and microphone to that gap. Instead of showing a small orange dot in the top-right corner when the microphone is in use and a green dot when the camera is active, these indicators will apparently have more prominence between the cutouts.
Per 9to5Mac, Apple’s thinking is to make the indicators look more like they do on MacBook, which shows a green indicator whenever an app is using the camera. On top of that, the iPhone 14 Pro would be able to show privacy indicators for the camera and microphone simultaneously — on current models, if both are in use, only a green dot is displayed. Additionally, it seems you’ll be able to tap on the privacy indicators to see which apps are using the mic and camera.
Meanwhile, Apple may be redesigning the Camera app to position more controls at the top of the screen — namely the flash and Live Photo buttons. More photo and video settings might appear below the hole-punch cutouts. These changes aren’t set in stone, according to 9to5Mac, which may be a good thing, as folks may not want to cover most of the display with their hand while they adjust photo and video settings.
Gurman: iPhone 14 Pro Cutouts Will Indeed Look Like ‘One Wide Pill’
Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman has now confirmed that this is true, and he says that the two separate cutouts will look like “one wide pill shaped cutout” as distinct cutouts would “look odd” when the iPhone is in use.
This is true. It looks like one wide pill shaped cutout. Having that separation would look odd during use. https://t.co/SrAtYQsENx

Apple is expected to combine the pill and hole cutouts into one single cutout for a more streamlined visual experience. The new pill-shaped cutout will not connect to the top of the device, but it will, as a result, look similar to the notch. Apple will deactivate the pixels in the dead space between the two cutouts to emulate a unified cutout.
The original source of the rumor that we shared this morning has also claimed that Apple will expand the blacked-out areas around the cutouts for content purposes. Apple might, for example, make the area wider to fit status icons on the left and right sides, or extend it downward into a large square for certain notifications.
It is only the iPhone 14 Pro models that are getting the new pill-shaped cutout, as the standard iPhone 14 models will continue to use a notch.

Rumor: iPhone 14 Pro Display Cutouts Could Appear as a Single Long Pill Shape When Turned On
According to information provided to MacRumors by an anonymous tipster, the discrete pill and hole cutouts are not visually separated when the display is powered on, but in fact appear as one contiguous, longer pill shape.
Rather than stick with the uneven aesthetic, the suggestion is that Apple has chosen to turn off the pixels in the “dead space” between the cutouts in order to create the appearance of a unified pill shape that is less distracting when viewing content on the screen.
In another intriguing twist, the tipster also claims that Apple intends to visually expand the blacked-out areas around the cutouts to host content. For example, Apple could make the area slightly wider to fit status icons on the left and right sides, or even extend it downward into a large rounded square when delivering certain notifications.
MacRumors has discovered chatter across Chinese social media networks, purportedly originating from Foxconn employees involved in iPhone 14 Pro assembly, suggesting the same unified pill software implementation. Like the original tipster, these sources have not been verified and we are only presenting the information up front to our readers with the usual caveats as a topic for discussion.
We’ll know for sure whether this last-minute rumor turns out to be true next Wednesday, September 7, when Apple holds its “Far Out” media event, where it will unveil the new iPhone 14 series. We are expecting a 6.1-inch iPhone 14, a 6.7-inch iPhone Max, a 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, and a 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max. There will be no 5.4-inch iPhone “mini” this year, with Apple instead opting for larger devices.
