Twitter starts pulling legacy blue verification checkmarks
Twitter has talked about pulling legacy verified checkmarks for a while, and now it’s acting on that plan. The social network has begun removing the original blue ticks from users’ profiles — formerly verified staff at Engadget can confirm this. From now on, you’ll need to pay $8 per month for Blue to get that symbol back. Businesses can receive a gold checkmark without a subscription, while government and multilateral organization accounts get a gray checkmark.
The company introduced verification in 2009 to reduce the potential for impersonation, and focused on well-established (though not necessarily famous) people in areas like politics, entertainment and the media. When Elon Musk bought Twitter in 2022, however, he claimed there were too many “corrupt” verified accounts and that it was necessary to drop the legacy system. He characterized Blue as a way to democratize checkmarks.
That’s not how it panned out. Twitter had to pause and relaunch Blue after trolls abused the feature to impersonate notable figures, including Musk. The firm instituted a review process and barred sign-ups from accounts that had been around for less than 90 days. Gold and gray checkmarks restored some of those anti-impersonation measures, but many celebrities, journalists and similar personalities no longer have those protections.
Twitter has had other problems with user labels, too. Multiple major media organizations, including NPR and PBS, have left Twitter over objections to the social site’s “government-funded media” designation. These outlets say the label falsely implies government influence over their content when they maintain strict editorial independence. The death of legacy checkmarks just underscores this conflict — critics are concerned that Twitter is eroding trust in its quest to earn more revenue from subscriptions.

Temtem Season 3 adds an official Nuzlocke mode, pulling from community-made Pokémon rules
Pokémon fans are likely well acquainted with the Nuzlocke challenge: a self-imposed, community-made ruleset designed to make playthroughs tougher. Nuzlocke playthroughs have been around for at least a decade, but they’ve never received official in-game support until now. Kinda. In a different game. Creature-collecting MMO Temtem has added three new challenge modes (including Nuzlocke) as part of its Season 3: Clash Of Tamers. Patch 1.3 is also bringing a new area, an island worth of balance changes, and much more.

Savvy tips for pulling together a sweet showstopper birthday cake for less
JUSTIN Bieber celebrated his birthday this week – no doubt with a huge cake worthy of the star.
But you don’t need the budget of a celeb to pull together a sweet showstopper centrepiece.
Try these tricks to amaze guests with a cake befitting a rock star . . .[/caption]
MAKE IT COUNT: A birthday cake in the shape of a number has wow factor and can be adapted to suit almost anyone.
You will need a cake board to serve your creation — The Range has different sizes starting from £1.49.
Then use Swiss rolls to mould the shape of the number needed.
Aldi sells raspberry jam or chocolate rolls for £1.05 each.
The number eight can be a little tricky — break up the roll where needed and use a knife to curve out the edges.
Slather thick buttercream icing over your Swiss roll. It’s easy enough to make frosting by beating together icing sugar and butter at a ratio of two to one. Or a tub of Sainsbury’s ready-made vanilla icing is £1.60.
Finish by decorating the numbers. For kids’ cakes, chocolate buttons and hundreds and thousands work, or Hobbycraft sells edible glitter at £2.50 a pot.
PIMP YOUR CAKE: Decorating your own cake is an easy way to impress for less.
Find a large plain cake to suit your taste and party size.
Sainsbury’s Seriously Chocolate Cake, £12.50, serves 20. Or for a bigger crowd Asda’s celebration fruit cake, £19, serves 34.
You can create a personalised edible cake topper with a photo and text of your choice from around £5 on both Etsy and Amazon.
Or spell out your own personal message with edible letters. Try Dr Oetker white chocolate letters and numbers, £2.85, from Sainsbury’s.
Large personalised pop-out cake toppers look glamourous and cost around £2.50 from eBay.
Or for a child’s cake, add little toy figures suited to your theme.
For example, small dinosaurs look great on top of a cake.

Netflix Is Pulling All Of Arrested Development, Including Seasons It Produced
As of March 15, fans will no longer be able to stream any episodes of Arrested Development on Netflix, despite the streaming service producing the last two seasons of the hit comedy, Variety reports.
Arrested Development originally aired on Fox for three seasons before it was cancelled in 2006. Netflix was behind the series’ revival when it licensed a new season in 2011, which aired on the service in 2013. A fifth and final season aired exclusively on Netflix in 2018 and 2019.
Netflix also acquired non-exclusive streaming rights to Fox’s first three seasons, meaning Netflix has thus far been the only place fans can binge the entire show at once. The first three seasons are also available to stream on Hulu, which is owned by Disney.
Microsoft is pulling many beloved games off the Xbox 360 store next week
Microsoft will be removing a bunch of beloved games from the Xbox 360 Marketplace on February 7th, according to a support page on the Xbox website (via Wario64), meaning you won’t be able to buy them after that date.
It’s not all bad news. If you’ve already bought a game that’s getting pulled, you can still download it after February 7th. Games being removed that are available on Xbox One and Xbox Series X / S stores will remain purchasable on those platforms.
But that does mean digital games only available on the Xbox 360 Marketplace will be unavailable for purchase in just a week. Users on Resetera have figured out which games fall into that category and will be going away for good, and the list includes some well-known titles like Jet…
Genshin Impact survey lists the characters players regret pulling for
This Genshin Impact survey, made by a fan, gathered responses and put them together to show which characters players regret pulling the most while playing the anime game. The survey was conducted by Redditor riridouluvme and it received 824 responses — a small amount given the overall size of the community — but the results post itself gained over 11,000 upvotes and over 2,000 comments in just about 12 hours.

Warzone 2 Uber drivers may be pulling up to an Al Mazrah street near you
Thanks to proximity chat in Warzone 2, players have started up their own in-game Uber service, carrying squads across Al Mazrah free of charge, granted they’ren ot shot on sight.
Examples include Reddit user Crescendummain, who posted one of their journeys on the Warzone Reddit earlier today. In their video (which has some harsh language in it, before you go and watch it), you can see a full squad of four jump on top of their buggy as they stick to the roads, ensure their companions stay safe, and make it to their destination in good time.
This is all thanks to the new proximity voice chat feature in Warzone 2, which has allowed players who aren’t in the same squad to communicate with each other. With a few words and assurances of friendliness, Warzone 2 players have been finding new ways of interacting aside from shooting and stabbing. If you’ve got the game, give it a go, try having a friendly chat or some banter with those you run into right now.
