Rumor Recap: What to Expect From the iPhone 15’s USB-C Port
Below, we have recapped rumors about the iPhone switching to USB-C, including potential speed differences, other Apple accessories adopting USB-C, and more.
Speed Differences
While all iPhone 15 models are expected to have a USB-C port, only the Pro models will support at least USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3 for faster data transfer speeds up to 40 Gbps, according to Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. He expects the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus to remain limited to USB 2.0 speeds of up to 480 Mbps like Lightning.
iPad Pros gained Thunderbolt 3 support in 2021, while the USB-C port on the latest iPad Air is capable of up to 10 Gbps transfer speeds.
Made for iPhone Optimizations
Apple plans to optimize the fast-charging performance of chargers certified under its “Made for iPhone” program on iPhone 15 models, according to Kuo. Uncertified cables will allegedly have limited charging and data transfer speeds. It’s worth noting that Apple does not limit uncertified cables for iPads with USB-C ports, so this would be a different approach with the iPhone if this rumor proves to be accurate.
Apple Accessories Moving to USB-C
With the iPhone 15 switching to USB-C, several Apple accessories are expected to follow suit:
The latest Siri Remote for the Apple TV already features a USB-C port.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 15 series in September. Many more changes are rumored for the Pro models, including a titanium frame, faster A17 Bionic chip, thinner bezels around the display, Wi-Fi 6E support, and more.

iPhone 16 Rumor Recap: What We Know About Apple’s 2024 Smartphones So Far
Below, we’ve created a quick rumor recap that highlights what we know so far, so if you aren’t looking forward to the iPhone 15 Pro now that rumors are sounding like it’s a less impressive update, you can at least look forward to the iPhone 16.
Size and Design
A rumor just this week suggests that Apple will adopt new screen sizes for the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models. The smaller iPhone 16 Pro is expected to have a display size of 6.3 inches, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will have a display size of 6.9 inches.
The information comes from display analyst Ross Young, who often shares accurate details on Apple’s plans. He says that the new size options are exclusive to the Pro models, so this would mark the first time that Apple has used different sizes for the standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus and the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models.
Note that these display sizes are rounded and are not precise down to the decimal point at this time. The current iPhone 14 Pro has a display size of 6.1 inches and the iPhone 14 Pro Max has a display size of 6.7 inches, so we are looking at an approximate increase of 0.2 inches for both devices.
High-End Ultra Model
According to Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman, Apple could introduce a higher-end iPhone 16 “Ultra” to be sold alongside the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. It would be positioned as a top-of-the-line iPhone, but it is not clear what specifically will differentiate it from the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, and it is also not known what the display size would be.
There is a possibility that the iPhone 16 Ultra could replace the iPhone 16 Pro Max rather than be sold alongside it.
Solid-State Buttons
For the iPhone 15 Pro, Apple initially planned to add solid-state volume, power, and mute buttons that would replace the physical buttons, but due to technical issues, Apple had to scrap the feature.
Solid-state buttons are instead expected be introduced with the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max models, with Apple using haptic feedback to mimic the feel of a traditional button press. With the addition of the solid-state technology, Apple will also change the design of the volume button. Rather than two volume buttons, the solid-state button will be a single, unified button.
5G Modem Chip
Apple has been working on its own 5G modem chip for the last several years, and it could be ready for inclusion in at least some of the iPhone 16 models. Apple wants to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm by using in-house technology.
Rumors suggest that Apple will use the modem chip in a single device before rolling it out to other devices, with a full transition away from Qualcomm modem chips taking up to three years.
Apple also eventually wants to use its own WiFi and Bluetooth chips, and there is a possibility that those components could replace Broadcom chips as early as 2024.
Other Features
There are a few other features that have been rumored for the iPhone 16 models, which we may or may not see.
- Under Display Face ID – There were rumors that Apple could adopt under-display Face ID as soon as 2024, which would cut down on the size of the Dynamic Island and possibly allow for a smaller hole punch front camera, but it looks like that’s going to be delayed until 2025.
- Periscope lens – With the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Apple plans to introduce a periscope telephoto lens that supports 5x or 6x optical zoom. Apple sometimes expands technology used in a flagship iPhone to additional models the next year, but Apple analyst Ming-Cho Kuo suggests that the periscope technology will remain limited to the iPhone 16 Pro Max in 2023.
- USB-C Port – Apple is transitioning to USB-C in 2023 with the iPhone 15 models, and the iPhone 16 models will use the same technology.
More Information
As we’re still more than a year away from the launch of the iPhone 16 models, these rumors are subject to change and could shift in the future. To keep up to date on what to expect, you can follow our iPhone 16 roundup, which is updated every time a new rumor surfaces.

Zelda: Breath Of The Wild Story Recap Video Will Get You Ready For Tears Of The Kingdom
The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom finally releases soon, and it serves as a direct continuation of Breath Of The Wild’s story. Given that it’s been more than six years since Breath of the Wild released in 2017, you’re forgiven if you have some trouble recalling all the details of that game’s events. Don’t worry, as we have a recap of the game’s story for you to enjoy.
In the 15-minute video below, narrator Adam Mason explains the events of the game. It all starts with the the forming of Calamity Ganon 10,000 years in the past, with four Divine Beasts and an army of Guardian automotons created by the Sheikah helping seal him away. From there, it proceeds to 100 years before the events of Breath of the Wild, and how Link and Zelda worked together with the four champions to prepare for the Great Calamity.
This all leads to the unfortunate downfall of Link, Zelda, and the four champions, with Link being sealed underground for his wounds to heal. 100 years later, Link wakes up and proceeds to explore the post-apocalyptic Hyrule, eventually regaining his memories, defeating the four Divine Beasts, and rebuilding himself to take another shot at Ganon. The game ends with our heroes finally overcoming Calamity Ganon seemingly once and for all, but with the incredible task of rebuilding Hyrule still ahead of them.
This Breath of the Wild recap will help you prepare for Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
With less than a week to go until Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is out, Nintendo has put out a conveniently short recap video to remind you of the story so far.
Breath of the Wild came out six years ago now, but despite being one of the best entries in the series, it would be understandable if you don’t remember every single thing that happened in the game. If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to catch up or refresh yourself on the story, well, you’re going to get the best bang for your buck by playing the game. Other than that, though, Nintendo has released a video just under seven minutes in length titled, “Relive the Story of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild,” which seems like it also might help remind you of what happened.
This video really is just kind of a way of learning the main plot beats the same way you might do by looking something up on Wikipedia, but that also involves reading, and sometimes you want something a bit more lax than that. Don’t expect to watch full on cutscenes either, as it’s mostly a compilation of snippets from Breath of the Wild paired with a narrator filling in the gaps.
