Every iPhone 16 Rumor We’ve Covered So Far
To bring you up to speed, we’ve summarized below the biggest iPhone 16 rumors we’ve covered so far here on MacRumors. For more details, follow the links, or dive into our dedicated roundups for both iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models, which are expected to arrive in September.
1. Larger Displays
Biggest Ever iPhones
This year’s iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are rumored to be getting bigger display sizes, increasing to 6.27- and 6.86-inches, respectively. For comparison, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max are equipped with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays, respectively. The new display sizes would be the largest ever for the iPhone.
2. Vertical Camera Layout
iPhone 16 & iPhone 16 Plus
Apple’s iPhone 16 base models will feature a vertical camera arrangement with a pill-shaped raised surface, instead of a diagonal camera arrangement like the iPhone 15. The new camera bump features two separate camera rings for the Wide and Ultrawide cameras. The vertical camera layout is expected to enable Spatial Video recording, which is currently limited to the iPhone 15 Pro models.
3. Battery Changes
All iPhone 16 Models
One rumor suggests the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro Max will feature larger batteries than their predecessors, but the iPhone 16 Plus may have reduced capacity. The iPhone 16 is said to have a 6% increase over the iPhone 15, with the iPhone 16 Pro Max gaining a 5% increase. In contrast, the iPhone 16 Plus is rumored to have a 9% reduction in capacity. On the other hand, Apple could also potentially use stacked battery technology to increase energy density and prolong lifespan.
4. Capture Button
New Camera Capabilities
All iPhone 16 models will have a new “Capture Button” dedicated to triggering image or video capture. The button will add features like the ability to zoom in and out by swiping left and right on the button, focus on a subject with a light press, and activate a recording with a more forceful press. The Capture Button will be located on the bottom right side of the iPhone 16, and will take the place of the mmWave antenna on U.S. iPhone models, with the antenna relocating to the left side of the device below the volume and Action buttons.
5. Ultra Wide Lens Upgrade
iPhone 16 Pro & iPhone 16 Pro Max
The iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature an upgraded 48-megapixel Ultra Wide camera lens, which should allow it to capture more light, resulting in improved photos when shooting in 0.5× mode, especially in low-light environments. This also means that iPhone 16 Pro models should be able to shoot 48-megapixel ProRAW photos in Ultra Wide mode. These photos retain more detail in the image file for more editing flexibility, and can be printed at large sizes.
5. Super Telephoto Camera
iPhone 16 Pro Max
The iPhone 16 Pro Max could be the first to feature a super telephoto periscope camera for dramatically increased optical zoom. “Super” or “ultra” telephoto usually describes cameras with a focal length of over 300mm. The current telephoto lens is equivalent to a 77mm lens, so if accurate, there could be a notable increase in zoom capabilities. Super telephoto cameras are often used for sports and wild animal photography, but the extremely soft backgrounds they create also make them useful for portrait photography, providing there is enough distance between the subject and the photographer.
6. Faster Wi-Fi Support
Wi-Fi 6E & Wi-Fi 7
Apple’s 2024 iPhone Pro models are expected to get Wi-Fi 7 in the Pro models, enabling data transfer over the 2.4GHz, 5GHz, and 6GHz bands simultaneously. This should result in faster Wi-Fi speeds, lower latency, and more reliable connectivity. With technologies such as 4K QAM, Wi-Fi 7 is also expected to offer peak data transfer speeds of over 40 Gbps, a 4× increase over Wi-Fi 6E. Meanwhile, the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus is rumored to support Wi-Fi 6E, which works with the 6 GHz band, enabling faster wireless speeds and reduced signal interference.
7. New AXX Series Chips
A17 & A18 Pro Variants
Apple’s next-generation A18 Pro chip is expected to be manufactured with TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process, known as N3E. All four iPhone 16 models will be equipped with A18-branded chips, according to one rumor. Meanwhile, another rumor counter-claims that the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus will have A17 chips made using a different manufacturing process to the A17 Pro in the iPhone 15 Pro. The iPhone 15 Pro’s A17 Pro chip is fabricated using TSMC’s N3B process, but Apple reportedly plans to switch to the lower-cost N3E process for next year’s standard A17 chip designed for the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus.
7. 5G Qualcomm Modem
iPhone 16 Pro & iPhone 16 Pro Max
Apple is expected to use Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon X75 modem in this year’s Pro and Pro Max models. The Snapdragon X75 includes improved carrier aggregation and other technology advancements for faster 5G download and upload speeds compared to the X70, which is used in iPhone 15 models. The modem’s combined mmWave and sub-6GHz 5G transceiver also takes up 25% less circuit board space, and is said to use up to 20% less power. The standard iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus are expected to retain the Snapdragon X70 modem.
8. Tetraprism Lens
iPhone 16 Pro
Both iPhone 16 Pro models are expected to feature 5x optical zoom, which is currently exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max. Apple’s tetraprism lens system has a “folded” design that allows it to fit inside the smartphone, enabling up to 5x optical zoom and up to 25x digital zoom. In contrast, the current smaller iPhone 15 Pro is limited to up to 3x optical zoom, which is in line with the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max.
10. Micro-Lens Technology
More Efficient OLED
Apple is said to be weighing up the use of micro-lens technology to maintain or increase the brightness of OLED displays on next year’s iPhone 16 models while potentially reducing their power consumption. MLA works by using a uniform pattern of billions of lenses inside the panel that reduces internal reflections. These lenses turn the path of light reflected backwards from the inside of the panel towards the screen, which can serve either to increase perceived brightness while maintaining the same level of power consumption, or maintain brightness levels while consuming less power compared to conventional OLED panels at the same luminance.
11. Action Button
iPhone 16 & iPhone 16 Plus
The iPhone 15 Pro models include an Action Button, and in 2024, the Action Button is expected to be expanded to the standard iPhone 16 models. The Action Button used across the iPhone 16 lineup will be identical to the iPhone 15 Pro Action Button. The Action button, which replaces the traditional mute switch, can perform multiple functions such as activating the Flashlight, turning on the Camera, launching a Shortcut, enabling or disabling a Focus mode, using Translate, turning on/off Silent Mode, and more.
12. Generative AI
Large Language Models
With iOS 18, Apple is rumored to be introducing new features powered by large language models (LLMs), although additional cutting-edge generative AI features could be limited to the iPhone 16 models. Apple is developing a large array of features that use generative AI, including a smarter version of Siri, improved interactions between Siri and the Messages app, auto-generated Apple Music playlists, integration with productivity apps for AI-assisted content creation, and more.
13. Upgraded Microphone
Enhanced Siri
Apple is said to be planning a significant upgrade to the iPhone 16 microphone to improve the new AI-enhanced Siri experience. Apple’s Siri AI ambitions will heavily rely on improved voice input processing, and the new mic is expected to offer significantly enhanced signal-to-noise ratio.
14. New Thermal Design
Reduced Heat
Apple is rumored to be working on a graphene thermal system for the iPhone 16 lineup, while the iPhone 16 Pro models could add metal battery casings to reduce overheating. Graphene has high thermal conductivity, surpassing that of copper, which is currently used in iPhone heat-sinks. Apple has been filing patents related to using graphene for thermal management for some time. The move could be in response to widely encountered overheating issues experienced with the iPhone 15 Pro, which Apple addressed through a software update.
15. Expanded Storage
Both iPhone 16 Pro Models
The iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max will be available with double the maximum storage capacity as the iPhone 15 Pro models, increasing from 1TB to 2TB, according to one rumor. The move is said to be a result of Apple’s switch to higher-density Quad-Level Cell (QLC) NAND flash for higher storage models. Apple’s use of QLC NAND could allow Apple to fit more storage into a smaller space and it is less expensive than Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND, which current iPhones use. On the downside, QLC has comparatively slower read and write speeds.
15. Increased Memory
iPhone 16 & iPhone 16 Plus
Apple’s iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus models have been rumored to both feature 8GB of RAM, an increase over the 6GB of RAM in the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. More working memory should equate to improved performance for multitasking on the iPhone.

‘A bear chewed my face off – so I ATE it’, says hunter mauled by beast before son punched it allowing him to open fire
A HUNTER who was mauled by a bear has revealed how his son saved his life – by shooting the beast dead and turning it into kebab meat.
The pair had been hunting in a forest in Sweden when a bear hurtled towards Pär Sundström, 42, knocking him to the ground and gnawing on his face.
Pär said that the shots he fired through the bear’s body did nothing to stop the attack, and it was only when his son Evert, 14, karate chopped the enraged animal’s head.
“I got so terribly angry and thought I had to do something,” Evert told Swedish media after the incident.
“I practice karate and I ran forward and hit the bear’s head as hard as I could with my clenched hand. Then I don’t remember anymore.”
Pär compared the ensuing scene to a wrestling match.
He revealed how the bear had turned it’s attention to the teenager – sinking it’s sharp incisors into Evert’s arm and using brute force to throw him around.
Yet, Pär’s resilient son continued to hit the bear over the head with his other arm.
The brutal scene sent shock waves through the wounded father, who was subsequently able to regain control over himself and pick up his rifle.
“I needed to wait for the right sight to shoot, so that Evert wouldn’t be behind the bear and risk being hit,” Pär said.
It was only after Pär tried to take aim that he realised how injured he was.
“It splattered like hell, there was blood everywhere,” he recalled.
The recoil from the shots hit Pär directly in a gaping hole under his right eye, but the shots were effective this time and Evert was able to shake the bear.
The father-son duo were left scrambling to pick up parts of Pär’s face from the forest floor, before Evert called emergency services.
Pär says he is incredibly grateful to have such a wise son, crediting his decision to have him airlifted to hospital for saving his life.
“I’m happy about that today, that I have a very wise son,” he said.
“I think Evert is a hero because I think he saved my life right then and there, simply because he reacted as quickly as he did and tackled the bear.”
Pär was rushed into a 13-hour surgery where doctors were able to reconstruct part of his face by using skin from his thigh.
The pair revealed how they then got the “ultimate revenge”, with Pär describing how they used the bear’s body for kebab meat.
He said: “Stuffing a taco with the meat of a bear that bit me in the face was truly the ultimate revenge in my eyes.
“The meat is dark, coarse, sweet and requires lots of spices. This bear lived mainly on grasses and herbs; the meat is good to eat.”
“If a bear has eaten carrion, it’s not possible to eat. Then the meat smells like surströmming (fermented herring).”
Having frozen the leftovers from their feast, Pär said his family has enough kebab and taco meat to last them months.
This isn’t the first time that a man has wrestled a bear and lived to tell the tale.
Andreas Kieling, 63, told German media how he had been able to escape after protecting his neck when a bear lunged at him.
He added that his top tricks for surviving included not fainting from the agony, and trying not to scream.
“When bears fight among themselves, they quickly react. When one submits, the other quickly lets go of him. That was my luck.”
While an American woman revealed how she was able to escape a savage black bear mauling by using a quilt.
Laurel-Rose von Hoffmann-Curzi, 67, said: “There was a quilt hanging on [a nearby] railing and I threw it over his head.
“It was the only thing that was there and the only thing, in that moment, I could think to do.
“It must have startled him as he turned around and went back down the stairs.”
So far, the Skull and Bones beta has just made me want to play Sea of Thieves again
Here are my favorite Vision Pro apps (so far)
Since Apple launched the Vision Pro last Friday, I’ve been hammering home the importance of immersive content. This isn’t a radical suggestion by any means. At this point we’re all keenly aware that hardware platforms live and die by content offerings. Remember all the way back, for a moment, to the end of 2014. When […]

Tottenham finally have a fully-fit first XI – so can they now mount an unlikely Premier League title challenge?
ANGE POSTECOGLOU finally has all his big-hitters available this weekend for the first time since taking over.
Now he will be looking to prove the doubters wrong and show Tottenham are genuinely in the title race.
Son Heung-min (left) is set to return against Brighton on Saturday[/caption]
Straight-talking Postecoglou claimed back in mid-January that it was possible his Spurs side could win the league this year.
The 58-year-old said: “Yes, we are (in a title race) and I’ve said all along that until the point where you’re not, why would you discount the possibility?”
At that point they were six points off table-topping Liverpool. A little under a month on, that gap has extended to seven.
Most pundits and fans cannot envisage the North Londoners winning their first-ever Premier League crown come the end of the season.
Indeed, a supercomputer over at number-crunchers Opta calculated on Tuesday that fifth-placed Spurs have less than a 0.1 per cent chance of finishing top of the pile.
But given how dominant his side were from August to October, when they were first after an unbeaten opening ten games, Postecoglou will certainly not be throwing in the towel.
The only key player they were missing during those initial three months was classy midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur who was still recovering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury sustained in February.
Though September’s blow when Ivan Perisic suffered a complex ACL issue of his own was keenly felt too, even if the veteran winger was largely used as an impact sub.

Then all hell broke loose on November 6 with that unforgettable 4-1 home defeat to rivals Chelsea, when they had two players sent off as well as losing star men Micky van de Ven and James Maddison to serious hamstring injuries.
Further injuries and suspensions followed, while Son Heung-min, Pape Matar Sarr and Yves Bissouma all headed off on international duty to the Asia Cup and Africa Cup of Nations respectively.
Yet, slowly but surely, Postecoglou has got all his main men back.
And for the first time in his tenure, he should be able to pick his strongest XI at home to Brighton on Saturday.
That is providing ex-Seagulls star Bissouma is fit after a reported bout of malaria while with Mali and that Son is ready after South Korea’s shock exit to Jordan on Tuesday. The 31-year-old is due back in Tottenham training on Thursday.
Should that pair be fit and available, Postecoglou could go with what may well be his preferred team of: Guglielmo Vicario; Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero, Van de Ven, Destiny Udogie; Bissouma, Bentancur, Maddison; Dejan Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son.
The competition for places would be decent too with Timo Werner, Sarr and Brennan Johnson all making strong cases to start as well.
Postecoglou has always been confident of having a stronger second half to the season than the first, believing his team would have wised up to his methods by then.
Should that come to pass, then it is not beyond the realms of possibility that they are in the mix come the end of campaign – no matter what the Opta AI suggests.
They have some serious ground to make up but they have three winnable home games up next (curiously, all at 3pm on a Saturday) in Brighton this week, then Wolves, then Crystal Palace.
Is this Postecoglou’s best side?
RODRIGO BENTANCUR is one of many Spurs stars Ange Postecoglou has been unable to call upon every week this season due to injury.
But the Uruguayan is fully fit now and Postecoglou finally has all his main stars back, giving him the chance to pick his best XI.
SunSport predicts that to be:
Vicario;
Porro, Romero, Van de Ven, Udogie;
Bissouma, Bentancur, Maddison;
Kulusevski, Richarlison, Son.
Then follows a tough trip to Aston Villa, currently two points above them in the table, and they would likely have to win that to stay in contention.
The ultra test, though, comes in the back end of April going into early May.
They host Manchester City, then Arsenal and then go to Liverpool.
It is a frightening trio of fixtures but Postecoglou has managed to eradicate the fear from this team during his short time in charge.
And, remember, he has not lost to any of those sides in the league this term, either.
It is a long shot, of course it is.
Then again, Postecoglou is at the peak of his powers now from a selection perspective, which is something we have never seen before.
