Thymesia has spectacular combat, but falls short of true Soulslike greatness
Where FromSoftware’s offerings weave a mysterious tale, wonderful level design, and meaningful combat into a tight package, Thymesia – like so many other Soulslikes – knows it must excel at one thing to compensate for the others. I’ve spent some time with the game’s early levels and it perfectly captures what I’d consider to be a ‘classical’ Soulslike: a game that’s heavily focused on The Combat Bit above all else.
Does the game’s combat rule? Yes, without a doubt. But will I continue playing? I’m not so sure. From what I’ve sampled, one strong pillar might not be enough to hold my attention for much longer.
Bloodborne-inspired Thymesia has infected the Steam charts
It probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that something as clearly Bloodborne-inspired as Thymesia is a hit on Steam. The Soulslike game from Taiwanese studio OverBorder launched August 18 on Steam, and players have been eagerly jumping into its plague-infested streets, sending Thymesia into the upper rafters of the Steam top sellers chart.

Thymesia: How To Get All Endings
As is to be expected with most games in the soulslike genre, Thymesia comes packing more than one ending. As a matter of fact, this challenging action-RPG sports five total endings for you to go after if you want to see everything and unlock all of the game’s trophies. Worry not, however, as they’re all fairly easy to achieve without multiple playthroughs. We’ll tell you how to make it happen.
How to get all endings in Thymesia
First up, you’ll need to have completed all of the levels containing bosses to earn their unique cores, some of whom are in optional sub missions. Once you’ve defeated every boss and obtained their cores, you’ll have a final mission left where you’ll fight the final boss, and upon defeating them, you’ll be asked to choose two of the cores you’ve obtained to combine into an item required to unlock an ending.
Lucky for you, you aren’t required to beat the full game over and over again to get every ending. Instead, you can simply earn them all by taking down the final boss multiple times in a single playthrough. To accomplish this, beat the boss and select “No” when asked if the outcome was the truth to be taken back to Philosopher’s Hill. From here, you can fight the boss again to achieve a different ending, repeating the process until you’ve gotten all five. Here are all five endings and how to earn them.

Thymesia reviews round-up – all the scores
OverBorder Studio’s first project is one that may be biting off more than it can chew. Thymesia is a Souls-like inspired mainly by Bloodborne, with a few hints of Sekiro thrown in for good measure.
The indie game arrives this Thursday, August 18, but is it worth playing? Well, that’s what we hope this story will answer. As we like to do, we’ve rounded up all of the review scores from games media to help you make a decision.
Thymesia is a challenging game of deflects, dodges and a Plague mechanic that wants you to keep up the pressure. Attacking enemies in Thymesia only wounds them, befitting the plague doctor theme. To truly kill an enemy, you must capitalise on the advantage, turning temporary wounds into permanent damage.
Thymesia Review – Hunter Homage
A lot of games have drawn inspiration from the works of From Software, with varying degrees of success. While many developers look to emulate that high degree of challenge that comes from the likes of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Sekiro, they often miss the fact that it’s From’s thoughtful, tight gameplay and deliberate encounter design that makes these games fun, not just a punishing difficulty. Thymesia, a 3D action game that draws heavy influence from some specific From titles, manages to strike that balance successfully, creating a Souls-like that taps into the same rewarding moments provided by its biggest inspirations.
Thymesia draws most obviously from two of From Software’s games: the aggressive, horror-inspired Bloodborne, and the fast-paced, duel-focused Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. And to be sure, developer Overborder Studio owes a lot to its inspirations. Like Bloodborne, Thymesia is about a lone warrior wandering into a plague-stricken world where everyone infected has turned into a maddened, bloodthirsty killer. It has a similar atmosphere to Bloodborne and even its protagonist, Corvus, looks a bit like a Yarnham Hunter–more accurately, Hunter of Hunters Eileen the Crow.
Like most Souls games, Thymesia drops you into the middle of a weird situation without much explanation and leaves you to figure out what you’re facing as you explore its world and kill the people you find there. It all takes place in a kingdom called Hermes, which is apparently located in the canopy of an enormous tree. The world has been beset by a plague that infects people and animals, mutating them and turning them into monsters. Until now, Hermes managed to deal with the plague through the study and use of alchemy, but something has gone wrong, Hermes has succumbed, and nobody knows what to do.
