‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ trailer: Mario, Toad, and Peach train to save the world
The first trailer for The Super Mario Bros. Movie gave us a small taste of Chris Pratt’s take on Mario and of Bowser’s (voiced by Jack Black) quest for world domination. In the second trailer, we get a better look at the characters and the film’s plot. And honestly? It looks pretty fun.
Regardless of your thoughts on Pratt’s performance — I don’t hate it, sue me — you have to admit that seeing Mario get the ever-loving daylights slapped out of him by Donkey Kong (voiced by Seth Rogen) is hilarious. And what about the threatening banter between Bowser and Luigi (voiced by Charlie Day)? Or getting the opportunity to relive our Super Mario Kart trauma with a glimpse of Rainbow Road itself? Dare I say, “let’s-a go?”
The Super Mario Bros. Movie hits theaters Apr. 7.
Toad will sing in The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and you will enjoy it
It sounds like The Super Mario Bros. Movie might be a bit of a musical, as Toad actor Keegan-Michael Key confirms the mushroom man will do a bit of singing.
While it isn’t clear if the Mario Bros. film will be a full on musical, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb did say earlier this year that it might have a few musical numbers in it, which is sounding a bit more accurate now. Speaking to Variety, Key was asked if the perfect creature known as Toad will do any singing, to which the actor said “he does.”
“I got to improvise a song in ‘Super Mario Bros.,’ which was an absolute blast,” Key continued to explain. “That was just a stick of fun, that whole thing.” The actor also spoke about how he developed the voice, saying he “was working on the voice with my partner and trying to find the voice through the internal journey of the character. And then with the directors [Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic], we sprinkled some things in, we moved it around.”
Wild Hearts gameplay video shows your character battling massive boars and a really big toad
An extended gameplay trailer for Wild Hearts has been released, showing how you and a partner can take on giant, fantastical beasts in Omega Force’s take on Monster Hunter.
Published by EA, the game takes place in a fantasy version of feudal Japan called Azuma, a region full of scenic meadows and rich bamboo forests. The area is being ravaged by formerly peaceful, nature-infused beasts called Kemono, which are now altering their environment at the cost of citizens’ lives.
Kemono can range from from plant-infused squirrels to the massive Kingtusk wild boar.
How A Tiny Toad Could Upend a US Geothermal Project
Unfortunately, the only place in the world where the species is found is on 760 acres of wetlands about 100 miles east of Reno, Nevada, according to the New York Times. And that’s near the site for two renewable-energy geothermal plants which poses “significant risk to the well-being of the species,” according to America’s Fish and Wildlife Service — which just announced an emergency measure declaring it an endangered species.
The temporary protection, which went into effect immediately and lasts for 240 days, was imposed to ward off the toad’s potential extinction, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service said in a statement, adding that it would consider public comments about whether to extend the toad’s emergency listing.
The designation would add another hurdle for a plan to build two power plants with the encouragement of the U.S. Bureau of Land Management. The project is already the subject of a lawsuit filed by conservationists and a nearby Native American tribe. They hope the emergency listing can be used to block construction, which recently resumed…. The suit contended that the geothermal plants would dry up nearby hot springs sacred to the tribe and wipe out the Dixie Valley toad species.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service argues that “protecting small population species like this ensures the continued biodiversity necessary to maintain climate-resilient landscapes in one of the driest states in the country.”
They were only recently scientifically described — or declared a unique species — in 2017, making the Dixie Valley toad “>the first new toad species to be described in the U.S. in nearly 50 years. And they are truly unique. When they were described, scientists analyzed 14 different morphological characteristics like size, shape, and markings. Dixie Valley toads scored “significantly different” from other western toad species in all categories.
