Barry Greenwood is one of the foremost archival researchers and historians today. In this video Barry describes the work behind one of the “cornerstone” books in ufology, Clear Intent, more readily available as The UFO Cover-up — What the Government Won’t Say, co-written with the late Lawrence Fawcett. Archiving is to Barry “the physical manifestation of sighting reports,” and he describes the importance of Preservation, Ordering, Duplication, and Distribution of this too-often-lost information. Rich Reynolds offers some Archival Pros and Cons: Excerpts. The archivists we know—especially those with historical backgrounds like Barry—are well aware of “problematic contingencies,” and digitizing these resources can assemble more than mere “qualitative” data, that has relevance to more pressing issues than mere “fun.” Case in point: David Marler’s recent work, bolstered by “new” data from the Center for UFO Studies files, thoroughly refutes an offhand remark by skeptical journalist David Clarke to the effect that triangular UFOs got their prominence from Star Wars. This bears rather significantly upon the wrongheaded perception that UFO reporting is necessarily driven by media. And that’s an important understanding about the UFO-human connection. For the first exposition of his most recent work, see in David’s website Triangular UFOs Lecture 2022 Ozark Mountain UFO Conference 2022. (WM)
