Local BBC radio journalists set to stage 24-hour strike in dispute over cuts
LOCAL radio journalists are to stage a 24-hour strike in a dispute over cuts.
BBC journalists in England will take action from midnight on May 5 to coincide with the reporting of local election results.

The National Union of Journalists claims the broadcaster’s plans to share shows across the network will “kill off local radio”.
Paul Siegert, the NUJ’s national broadcasting organiser, said: “To go from over 100 hours a week of local programming on every station to 40 is unacceptable.”
The BBC said there would be no overall reduction in staffing levels or funding.
A BBC spokesperson said: “We’re disappointed that the industrial action is taking place.
“We have a plan to modernise local services across England – including more news journalists and a stronger local online service – which will see no overall reduction in staffing levels or local funding.

ElonJet is back on Twitter, but now it has a 24-hour delay
If you want to know where Elon Musk’s private jet is right now, you won’t find that info on Twitter, due to the company’s new policy that prevents posting a private person’s location in real time.
But now, if you really must, you can find out where Musk’s jet was exactly 24 hours ago.
Jack Sweeney, the student at University of Central Florida who was behind the original @ElonJet account (now banned), is back with @ElonJetNextDay.
Unlike @ElonJet, which tracked the whereabouts of Musk’s private jet in real time, the new account does so with a 24-hour delay, thus possibly circumventing Twitter’s new anti-doxxing policy.
The latest tweet from the account, which is less than a day old, says that Musk’s plane landed in Oakland, California – yesterday.
Musk likely won’t be too happy about it, but he did recently say that “posting locations someone traveled to on a slightly delayed basis isn’t a safety problem” and is “ok.”
Twitter’s official policy on this forbids sharing “live location information, including information shared on Twitter directly or links to 3rd-party URL(s) of travel routes, actual physical location, or other identifying information that would reveal a person’s location, regardless if this information is publicly available.”
Sweeney originally launched @ElonJet two years ago, irking Musk, who called it a “personal safety risk.”
Despite saying that his “commitment to free speech extends even to not banning the account following my plane,” Musk however did ban Sweeney’s @ElonJet account after taking over Twitter, citing an incident with a “crazy stalker.” Musk’s Twitter also banned the accounts of a number of journalists who covered Sweeney’s story. At writing time, some of those journalists are still banned on Twitter for unclear reasons.
YouTube Moderation Bots Will Start Issuing Warnings, 24-Hour Bans
When YouTube removes a message, the company says it will warn the poster that the message has been removed. The company adds, “If a user continues to leave multiple abusive comments, they may receive a timeout and be temporarily unable to comment for up to 24 hours.” […] It does not appear that YouTube is involving channel owners in any of these moderation decisions. Note that the post says YouTube will warn the poster (not the channel owner) of automated content removal and that if users disagree with the automated comment removal, they can “submit feedback” to YouTube. The “submit feedback” link on many Google products is a black hole suggestion box and not any kind of comment moderation queue, so it sounds like there will be no one that responds to a moderation dispute. YouTube says this automatic content moderation will only delete comments that violate the community guidelines—a list of pretty basic content bans—so hopefully it will stick to that.

Dec. 5 Deal of the Day: Samsung Galaxy Watch5 Pro (Bluetooth, 45mm)
(opens in a new tab)
Released this August, Samsung’s new Galaxy Watch5 Pro is a premium smartwatch “[created] for those that love the outdoors,” per a press release. It’s 60 percent larger than last year’s Galaxy Watch4 and designed to withstand anything, with titanium casing and a protruded bezel design that protects its sapphire crystal glass display. Its extensive lineup of wellness and workout features includes Advanced Sleep Coaching, Auto Workout Tracking, body composition analysis, turn-by-turn navigation, and a BioActive Sensor that can read your heart rate, blood oxygen, and stress levels, making it a serious rival to the Apple Watch Series 8.
The Gray Galaxy Watch5 Pro with Bluetooth connectivity normally retails for $449.99, but Best Buy has it on sale for $379.99 today (16% off) and throws in a free $50 e-gift card for kicks. It’s never dipped below $399 on Amazon, for comparison’s sake.

Nov. 29 Deal of the Day: LG 50-inch NANO75 UQA series LED 4K UHD Smart webOS TV
(opens in a new tab)
Why we like it
This entry-level 50-inch 4K smart TV with a speedy webOS interface features LG’s backlit NanoCell display technology, which applies a filtering layer of teeny nanoparticles to its LCD panel for extra-vivid colors. Its refresh rate only goes up to 60Hz, so we wouldn’t recommend it as a companion for next-gen consoles, but its Auto Low Latency Mode should keep things smooth during gameplay.
Today’s $369.99 Deal of the Day offer is $3 higher than its current list price on Amazon, which is a new record-low, but you do get a free three-month Apple TV+ subscription (valued at $20.97) if you go the Best Buy route.

Nov. 29 deal: “The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD” (Nintendo Switch)
(opens in a new tab)
Why we like it
Last year’s high-definition remaster of the hit 2011 Wii Game The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword traded slick visual upgrades for still-clunky controls, per former Mashable senior entertainment reporter Alexis Nedd. It’s no Breath of the Wild, in other words, but it’s still worth a play-through before Tears of the Kingdom arrives next May.
Best Buy has it on sale for $29.99, which is 50% off its $59.99 MSRP and only $1.50 more than its previous all-time-low on Amazon (where it’s currently sold out). It also throws in a free set of decals featuring art from the game that you can slap on your phone or laptop.
