Microsoft 365 apps are moving to a whole new domain
Microsoft 365 apps are moving to the cloud.microsoft domain
Microsoft is planning to move Microsoft 365 apps onto a single domain, cloud.microsoft. Currently, the company’s apps are scattered across a wide variety of domains, which means it can be confusing to know where to find a certain service if you don’t have it memorized or bookmarked somewhere.
Seriously, Microsoft currently uses a lot of domains. Check out this word cloud from Microsoft showing just a few of the domains Microsoft customers have to sort through:
But under this new system, you can instead use URLs like “outlook.cloud.microsoft” and “teams.cloud.microsoft” to get to the app you’re looking for, as shown in the below GIF from the company. Much cleaner.
Microsoft touts Windows 365 Frontline: 1 subscription for up to 3 workers
Microsoft today unveiled Windows 365 Frontline: a Cloud PC option aimed at frontline, shift, and part-time workers.
The new subscription to Windows 365 allows organizations to purchase one license that can be shared by up to three workers on mobile devices. The service also boasts new features for IT administrators.
“Windows 365 Frontline can be managed alongside your other Windows 365 Cloud PCs and endpoints with Microsoft Intune. From deploying apps to applying settings, it’s easy for IT administrators to tailor the experience of each group of Cloud PCs to meet the needs of each type of employee,” Sam Tulimat, a Microsoft principal product lead, said in a blog post.
Excel for Microsoft 365 cheat sheet
Windows may get all the press coverage, but when you want to get real work done, you turn your attention to the applications that run on it. And if you use spreadsheets, that generally means Excel.
Excel is, of course, part of Microsoft’s Office suite of productivity tools. Microsoft sells Office under two models: Individuals and businesses can pay for the software license up front and own it forever (what the company calls the “perpetual” version of the suite), or they can purchase a Microsoft 365 or Office 365 subscription, which means they have access to the software for only as long as they keep paying the subscription fee.
When you purchase a perpetual version of the suite — say, Office 2019 or Office 2021 — its applications will never get new features, whereas Microsoft 365 apps are continually updated with new features. For more details, see “Office 2021 vs. Microsoft 365: How to choose.”
Microsoft 365 vs. Office 2021: What’s the Difference?
There are two ways you can buy Microsoft Office: You can buy a Microsoft 365 software subscription or buy Office 2021 for Windows or Mac. (Microsoft 365 was formerly known as “Office 365.”) Here’s the difference.
