EA is working with a surprising dev partner on an upcoming AAA EA Originals game
The next major release from EA Originals, the EA label typically responsible for smaller projects from indie teams, is one you may not have seen coming if you don’t tend to keep up with industry rumours.
EA is partnering with Omega Force, the Koei Tecmo studio responsible for the Warriors series – Samurai Warriors, Dynasty Warriors and others. The developer is working on a new AAA IP that’s set in a fantasy version of feudal Japan.
EA called the project, “the next great hunting game,” suggesting it’s a Monster Hunter-style action RPG, though the publisher didn’t reveal any details. The good news is that more information will be shared later this month, potentially at TGS, given the studios and publishers involved.
EA Is Making A New AAA Hunting Game With Dynasty Warriors Publisher Koei Tecmo
A new game under the EA Originals label has just been announced, which will be developed in partnership with the team behind Dynasty Warriors–publisher Koei Tecmo and studio Omega Force. The as-yet untitled project is a AAA hunting game that will be set in a fantasy version of feudal Japan.
The upcoming game, which will introduce an original IP, seems set to try and compete with Capcom’s Monster Hunter series, with its focus on hunting action and fantasy feudal Japanese setting. In a press release, Koei Tecmo said it would be a “new type of hunting game,” with “unexpected and innovative mechanics.” More details on the new title will be revealed later this month.
Studio Omega Force is most well-known for its Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors games, as well as other titles in the musou genre such as Hyrule Warriors and Fire Emblem Warriors. The studio has also branched into more hunting-style games, notably including two Attack on Titan games that tasked players with taking down the titular giant humanoid titans.
Ubisoft Says Its “Big AAA” Games Will Now Be Priced At $70
Ubisoft is increasing the price of its major AAA games to $70, starting with November’s Skull and Bones release. According to an Axios report, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that big releases for current-gen consoles (Xbox Series X|S and PS5), like other recent AAA releases, will be priced higher.
“Some of the games will come at the same price as the competition. The big AAA games will come at $70,” Guillemot said to Axios. This comes as no surprise, as $70 seems to be pretty much the new normal for major new titles. Releases like Call of Duty: Black Ops sold for $70 at launch, as well as NBA 2K21.
Note that Guillemot emphasized that only some, and not all, Ubisoft games will have a $70 price tag. Assassin’s Creed Mirage, releasing in 2023, will only require you to fork over $50.
Assassin’s Creed Codename Jade is a ‘AAA RPG’ for mobile devices
Ubisoft is bringing Assassin’s Creed back to mobile devices with Jade, a new title set in China. The game takes place around 215 BC, filling in the timeline between Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and Origins, and it’s designed to feel like a mainline entry, parkouring and all. There’s no release date quite yet and all Ubisoft has shown is the classic eagle-flying-over-a-settlement sequence.
One thing we do know about Jade is that it will support the ability to create your own character, a first for the series. There’s no word on pricing or potential micro-transactions for the game.
Ubisoft has tried to make Assassin’s Creed a thing on mobile devices for nearly as long as the series has existed. The first mobile entry was Assassin’s Creed: Altaïr’s Chronicles, and it came out for the Nintendo DS in 2008, with iOS and Android versions the following year. The original Assassin’s Creed, meanwhile, hit PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in 2007. There have been a handful of mobile-first Assassin’s Creed games since then, but Ubisoft hasn’t released an iOS or Android title tied to the series in four years.

In addition to Jade, Ubisoft is building a game based on the live-action Assassin’s Creed series heading to Netflix. Of course there’s also Assassin’s Creed Mirage, the new mainline title set in the Middle East.
