Bodies of 18 migrants found dead inside secret compartment of abandoned truck in Bulgaria
EIGHTEEN Afghan migrants, including a child, have suffocated in a truck abandoned in Bulgaria.
The vehicle was transporting timber and carrying illegal migrants hidden in a compartment, the country’s Interior Ministry said on Friday.
The vehicle was found near the village of Lokorsko, around 12 miles from the capital, Sofia.
The drivers, suspected to be human traffickers, had fled the scene.
Senior police chief Atanas Ilkov said one of the four people detained had already been sentenced for human trafficking, and charges would be made once there was sufficient evidence.
Survivors were taken to nearby hospitals for emergency treatment.
Bulgarian health minister Assen Medzhidiev has said the survivors were in a precarious condition.
He confirmed: “They have suffered from lack of oxygen, their clothes are wet, they are freezing, and obviously haven’t eaten for days.”
Bulgaria is located on a popular route used by migrants from countries in the Middle East to enter the EU.
The Balkan nation is typically a stepping-stone to richer countries in western Europe, used often by elaborate networks of smugglers.
Last year, more than 150,000 people attempted to cross the border with Turkey, nearly five times higher than the previous year.
It comes three years after Maurice Robinson was convicted of manslaughter for the death of 39 Chinese migrants found in a refrigerated lorry in Essex.
The victims, who had arrived at Purfleet from Zeebrugge in Belgium, had been dead for at least 12 hours before the gruesome discovery.
Nicola Bulley: ‘Abandoned’ house near where missing mum vanished during dog walk searched by rescuers
AN unoccupied house has been searched as part of the hunt for missing mum Nicola Bulley.
The 45-year-old’s phone was found close to the home after she disappeared during a conference call.
The mum vanished while walking her dog next to the River Wyre off Garstang Road in St Michael’s on Wyre on Friday and police have been searching for the mum ever since.
Her phone was found abandoned on a bench near the river path, still logged onto her work call from the morning.
Kev Camplin of Bowland Pennine Mountain Rescue has been told The Mirror: “The abandoned house is right opposite the bench on the other side of the river, over a 10ft garden wall.
“We didn’t go into the house, as a volunteer search and rescue team we don’t actually go into buildings. We might go into a barn or something. We leave that to the police.
“While the team was searching the grounds, the owner was there for some reason, and we asked him to go in and he had a quick look around and she wasn’t there.”
Yesterday police tracked down a potential key witness who may be one of the last people to see a missing mum-of-two.
Lancashire Police today said they are looking for a “potentially key witness” to come forward.
They said the man was in the area at the time Nicola went missing walking a small white fluffy dog on a leash.
He spoke to a woman in the area before walking in the direction of Rowanwater.
Officers have now confirmed the man has been found and is now speaking to police.
Nicola’s dog Willow was discovered safe, but the mum has seemingly disappeared.
Nicola’s brother-in-law Stephen Cunningham said: “The whole family, as expected, are struggling to understand what’s happened and worried beyond words.”
It comes as partner Paul Ansell revealed fresh clues into the mum’s disappearance.
The engineer, 44, said his girlfriend had taken the children to school as normal then headed out on her regular morning dog walk.
He added: “I rang police after I got a call from the school regarding somebody who found Willow and Nikki’s phone and the dog lead and harness on the bench.
“We take the kids to school and take the dog down there – either myself or Nikki – nearly every day.”
Nicola was last seen walking east along the towpath of the River Wyre at 9.15am on January 27.
An extensive search has been launched to find the mum-of-two, involving police, firefighters, mountain rescue, underwater teams and the local community.
Police have continued to canvass the region searching for signs of Nicola[/caption]
The search is entering its sixth day[/caption]

New Evidence of BIGFOOT AT ABANDONED SIDELING HILL TUNNEL Near Breezewood, PA (PHOTO)
New evidence has been found by another individual claiming that at least one Bigfoot resides in the Sideling Hill Tunnel along the abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike near Breezewood, PA.
I recently received the following information and photo:
“I recently found a large footprint and broken trees in an area I’m familiar with. I had a strange feeling come over me in the area also. I believe I know where the creature is hunting and staying in an old tunnel in Fulton County, Pennsylvania. The location is between Breezewood and Wells Tannery.

Motorists stunned as 16ft boat is abandoned on main road – 80 miles from sea
DRIVERS and cops were baffled by a boat abandoned on a main road 80 miles from sea.
The 16ft cabin cruiser and trailer were parked in the dark with no lights and no owner.
Police had it moved off the A420 at Shrivenham, Oxon.
They said: “XRB14 were patrolling near the new roundabout tonight when they located this abandoned boat!
“If you recognise this or it belongs to you, please contact us so we can return it.”
Joker Alan H tweeted: “It could be Captain Haddock’s or Birdseye’s.”
Bri wrote: “Paint some checkers down the side and stick a blue light on it.”
It’s a mystery how the boat was stranded at Shrivenham, almost 80 miles from the nearest beach at Lepe, near Southampton.

The eerie village of Imber, on Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire, has stood empty for almost 80 years.

Imber, on Salisbury Plain, Wiltshire, was abandoned during WWII[/caption]
An abandoned church, homes and town hall are all that remain of a once bustling village – locked securely behind metal gates.
But it had its heart and soul ripped out at the start of WW2 when residents were told to collect their belongings and leave.
It followed orders that the area was to be turned into a military training ground for the British Army ahead of the Allied invasion of mainland Europe.
Residents were dispersed to nearby towns and villages, understanding the evacuation would be temporary.
But even when the war ended, they were not allowed to return.
Ever since then, Imber, once home to 150 people, has stood empty bar visits by soldiers and the occasional tour.
That is until an exceptionally rare ceremony granted a fascinating glimpse into life inside the ghost town.
Raymond Nash’s remains were returned to the tiny settlement on Thursday for his funeral.
The great-grandfather and former mechanic, who died at the age of 87 last month, moved with his mother from his first home in December 1943, when he was just a baby.
He left Imber after his father died aged just 31 but always hoped to be buried alongside his father at St Giles Church in the village.
To be buried in Imber a person needs to have been born in or to have lived in the village.
Following special permission from the Ministry of Defence, Raymond’s funeral went ahead, the first of its kind since 2012.
Around 110 mourners attended Thursday’s service at St Giles Church to pay their respects.
Kelvin Nash, Raymond’s 63 year old son, said the family have only been able to visit the village on select, restricted-access visiting days run by the MoD.
Addressing mourners , Mr Nash – a councillor who lives in Devizes – said: “He told us all about his village life, nearly getting run down by the army trucks.
“It can’t have been easy growing up without a Dad but he made the most of life.
“Wherever his journey took him, he made new friends and always managed to lend a helping hand.”
There are still two or three people alive who were born in Imber who could qualify to be buried in the ghost town.
It means Raymond’s funeral could be the last ever to be held at St Giles Church.
