iPhone 14 Crash Detection Alerts Police Minutes After Early Morning Tasmania Accident
According to Australia’s ABC News, a four-wheel drive truck towing a horse float collided with a tree stump in Tasmania at 1:45 a.m. on Monday. Crash Detection alerted nearby police, who were able to get to the scene within eight minutes, even though the passengers were unconscious.
Five people ranging in age from 14 to 20 were taken to the hospital, and one person with serious injuries was transported to Melbourne by air ambulance. In accidents with life-threatening injuries, immediate help can make a major difference. “In a case where people had lost consciousness in a crash like this, it is certainly something that alerts police quickly,” said Tasmania Police Inspector Ruth Orr. Officers had also already been in the area, which helped with the response time.
Apple’s iPhone 14 models have only been out for four months, but the Crash Detection feature has already helped multiple accident victims, as has the Emergency SOS via Satellite function that can contact police in emergency situations where WiFi and cellular service are unavailable.
Unfortunately, Crash Detection can also trigger false positives, which can be frustrating for emergency responders around amusement parks and ski resorts. In November, Summit County dispatchers in Utah said they had seen a major uptick in accidental 911 calls, and just this week, a report from The Japan News said that the Kita-Alps Nagano Fire Department had received a total of 134 false calls primarily triggered by Crash Detection, with those calls occurring between December 16 and January 23.
Japanese firefighters do not recommend turning off Crash Detection, despite the inconvenience. “It’s an effective function in the event of a really serious accident, so we can’t ask users to turn it off,” they said.
Apple has already adjusted Crash Detection, optimizing it with the iOS 16.1.2 update to cut down on false positives, but reports in December suggested that 911 dispatchers were still getting a number of accidental calls. Utah Summit County Sheriff Jamie FitzSimons said in December that Apple is aware of the problem, and that more refinement is needed. “We are communicating with Apple to get them to pay more attention to this, but it feels like we are trying to turn a battleship in a bathtub,” said FitzSimons.

Elizabethtown Police spokesman Chris Denham said wind was likely at fault for the tragic accident[/caption]
Elizabethtown Police spokesman Chris Denham was shocked to discover what happened.
“I’ve never seen anything like this,” Denham said.
“It’s certainly very windy out here and I’m certain that did have a factor and was involved in this.”
Witnesses corroborated that the high winds blew the sign from its post, causing it to fall on top of a car that was in the parking lot.
The Elizabethtown Fire Department and Hardin County EMS extracted the occupants from the vehicle shortly after they arrived at the scene.
The 72-year-old woman was rushed to University Hospital in Louisville.
WAVE News confirmed that she passed away at the hospital.
The other passengers, an adult man and a woman, were taken to Baptist Health Hardin.
Their injuries remain unknown.
The woman’s identity is being withheld pending notification of family.
Elizabethtown Police Department and the City of Elizabethtown’s Planning Department are continuing to investigate the incident.
A GoFundMe has been made to help the family.
Mayor Of Kingstown Promos Tone Down Face Scars On Jeremy Renner After Snowplow Accident
Mayor of Kingstown actor Jeremy Renner sustained significant injuries on New Year’s Day when he was helping save someone caught in deep snow. Photos from the ICU showed major wounds on Renner’s face. He is now out of the hospital and recovering at home, and Paramount+ is making a change to Mayor of Kingstown key art out of respect for Renner’s situation.
As spotted by The Hollywood Reporter, Paramount+ has altered the promo art for Mayor of Kingstown Season 2. It used to show Renner’s face with major injuries, but now that Renner has sustained very similar-looking injuries in real life, the network has made changes to the art. Renner’s character’s face still looks bruised, but it is toned down. Check out a comparison in the image below.

Jeremy Renner accident update as Marvel star breaks silence & shares new pic after he was run over by his snow plow
JEREMY Renner has revealed the devastating effects of a tragic snowplowing accident in a new photo.
The Marvel star broke his silence on social media after he was hurt while helping to clear snowy roads for his family on New Year’s Day.
Renner has previously shared footage of himself running the plow[/caption]
He recently posted a picture of himself looking broken and bruised in the wake of the accident and said: ‘I’m too messed up to type’[/caption]
Renner, who was said by a spokesperson to be in “critical but stable condition” following the accident, has posted a photo of himself laying in the hospital.
“Thank you all for your kind words,” he wrote in the post.
“I’m too messed up to type. But I send love to you all.”
The Avengers actor, 51, was airlifted to the hospital on Sunday after he suffered serious “chest and orthopedic injuries,” his spokesperson said.
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Department said they believe Renner was run over by his 14,000 pound snowcat, a massive piece of driven equipment used to plow snow, while he tried to stop it from rolling.
According to officials, Renner had been operating the equipment near his Lake Tahoe area home in order to clear a path for family that had been visiting for the holidays.
The area had just faced a harrowing New Years’ Eve storm where some parts received a whopping three feet of snow, according to local outlets.
Multiple cars were abandoned on Mt Rose Highway which was closed due to unsafe conditions.
Renner’s personal vehicle had been stuck in the wintery conditions, leading him to use the snowcat to free it.
After freeing his car, he got out of the massive plow and began to speak to a family member.
While speaking to family, the snowcat began to roll away, spurring Renner to chase it down and try to stop it, police said.
It was then that officials believe he was run over by the equipment and dealt with critical chest and orthopedic injuries.
“He was helping someone stranded in the snow,” Reno Mayor Hillary Shieve previously told the Reno Gazette-Journal on Monday night.
“He is always helping others.”
The Washoe County Sheriff’s Office in Nevada said they are continuing to investigate this incident, but at this point, they do not believe any foul play was involved.
Officials also said they do not believe Renner was inebriated when he was hurt, and deemed it a tragic accident.
Fans and fellow stars have taken to the comments on Renner’s latest post to give their well-wishes.
“Continued prayers your way brutha,” said fellow Marvel star Chris Pratt.
Actress Vanessa Hudgens wrote: “Sending so much love n healing!”
“Get well soon. Praying for you” said Ashley Benson.
Renner has posted several photos and videos of himself working outside his home at Lake Tahoe.
Last month, he tweeted a picture of a car that was buried in snowfall.
Renner captioned the snap: “Lake Tahoe snowfall is no joke.”
And, he also shared a picture of stunning blue skies amid the freezing conditions.
Over a year ago, he posted a clip on Instagram that shows him running a massive plow in the snowy region.
“I have so much respect for Mother Earth, and Mother Nature … I expect to lose the fight but I’ll always give it my best shot #tahoelife life #snowthrower,” he captioned the post.
Renner is best known for playing the Avengers character Hawkeye in a series of superhero films.
He recently played the character in the Disney+ mini-series called Hawkeye which was released last year.
The two-time Oscar-nominated actor is also the star of the ongoing crime television show Mayor of Kingstown.
It follows a power broker family in a small Michigan town “where the business of incarceration is the only thriving industry.”
Renner earned his Academy Award nominations for her performances in The Hurt Locker and The Town.
He was recently in Avengers: Endgame in 2019 and Wind River in 2017.
