iPhone 14 Pro’s Always-On Display Behavior in iOS 16 Allegedly Revealed Days Ahead of Unveiling
The source behind the latest wave of information was responsible for the bombshell leak earlier this week that claimed the iPhone 14 Pro’s display cutouts will appear to have a single, unified “pill” at the top of the display, rather than two distinct cutouts.
According to new information from the source shared exclusively with MacRumors, iOS 16‘s Lock Screen will directly interact with the iPhone 14 Pro’s always-on display, featuring integration with notifications and the depth effect and colors of wallpapers.
The iPhone 14 Pro’s status bar will also purportedly see changes as a result of the increased amount of usable space at the top of the display, moving the cellular signal indictor to the left and re-implementing the full-width battery status bar on the Lock Screen and notification center when the device is locked.
The source shared several graphics allegedly based on information from Apple that illustrate some of the iPhone 14 Pro’s software changes on the MacRumors forums and has since provided further information. The iPhone 14 Pro will apparently feature the following features and specific changes:
- The background of Lock Screen wallpapers with a depth effect will be removed and fully darkened when the display is in its always-on mode, while the foreground will be dimmed. In addition, the foreground will be tinted with color and feature edge highlights depending on user customization.
- Widgets will be visible on the always-on display but will fade in and out at set intervals, unnoticeable to the user, to prevent OLED burn-in.
- Content shown on the always-on Lock Screen and the full-illuminated Lock Screen must be configured in the same way and cannot be separated, meaning that they have to share the same wallpaper, color choices, fonts, and widgets. The core visual elements of the always-on display itself can be independently customized.
- Notifications will be part of the iPhone 14 Pro’s always-on display experience, and like on the normal Lock Screen, notifications will roll in from the bottom one at a time and remain subtly visible for 10 seconds. Once the display is woken up, the notifications will animate from the bottom and proceed to the user-defined setting of how notifications are presented on the Lock Screen (such as count, stack, or list).
- Apple may also allow users to enable a notification counter at the bottom of the always-on display.
Apple is also said to be planning to release an update, such as iOS 16.0.1 or 16.1, soon after the launch of the iPhone 14 Pro that will include fixes for issues with the device’s always-on display and wallpapers. While the company is now in the feature’s final stages of development, it is reportedly still encountering bugs and is scrambling software engineers from different teams, including the Apple Watch, to finish the always-on display experience before launch.
The iPhone 14 Pro lineup is expected to be revealed at the Apple’s “Far out” event on Wednesday, September 7. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro are likely to be available for pre-order on Friday, September 9, and start arriving to customers on Friday, September 16.

Trump-backed Truth Social allegedly owes $1.6m in unpaid hosting fees
Former president Donald Trump’s conservative social media safe haven, Truth Social, is being accused by a vendor of nonpayment of upwards of $1 million in hosting fees, according to a report from Fox Business on Thursday.
The allegations come from RightForge, an internet infrastructure company, and one of Truth Social’s biggest vendors and creditors. If true, Fox Business reports, it would suggest that the social media platform’s finances “are in significant disarray.”
RightForge entered into an agreement to host Truth Social on its servers in October 2021 when the platform was created. The social media app was founded after Trump was banned from Twitter following the Jan. 6 riot and is meant to encourage “an open, free, and honest global conversation without discriminating on the basis of political ideology,” according to its website. According to RightForge’s website, the company provides “hosting for those who believe in Freedom of Expression and need Big Tech Independence.”
Despite the apparent match made in heaven, anonymous sources at RightForge told Fox Business that Truth Social has “reneged on its contractually obligated monthly payments,” and owes the web-hosting service around $1.6 million. The anonymous sources also told Fox Business that Truth Social stopped making payments back in March and that RightForge is planning legal action to recoup the money.
While Trump is listed as a founder of Truth Social, according to the holding company that owns the platform Trump Media and Technology Group, the former president’s monetary and day-to-day investment is “negligible to nonexistent.” Trump Media’s current CEO is former Republican California Rep. Devin Nunes, and he has yet to comment on the allegations, according to Fox Business. RightForge CEO Martin Avila also declined Fox Business’ request for comment but didn’t deny the accusations either.
On top of potential legal action, the report also states that Truth Social isn’t making money either. Fox Business reported that in a May regulatory filing about Truth Social’s potential merger with media company Digital World, it was claimed that Truth Social isn’t bringing in any revenue, and may not until 2023.
The news of Trump and associates not paying their bills probably isn’t a surprise to those who are familiar with his business operations — especially Trump’s overt bragging about not paying bills. Back in 2016, USAToday listed 3,500 legal cases in which business owners and workers claimed Trump had failed to pay their invoices. This included employees at his casinos, real estate brokers, even the lawyers he had to represent him in those suits, ironically enough.
Images Allegedly Show Real iPhone 14 Pro Display Cutouts and Status Bar Items
Twitter user “DuanRui” today shared several images from Chinese social media site Weibo, with one seemingly showing a close-up, real-world image of the iPhone 14 Pro’s “pill and hole-punch” TrueDepth camera array cutouts that are expected to replace the notch.
For reference, Twitter leaker known as “Ice Universe” shared an image of the front of an iPhone 14 Pro dummy earlier today. In the image, the display cutouts are clearly artificial, which may make the above image much more believable.

At the same time, leaker “ShrimpApplePro” shared a segment of a screenshot allegedly from an iPhone 14 Pro Max, overlaid with an identical screenshot from an iPhone 13 Pro Max, to show how Apple is purportedly planning to enlarge and realign the status bar’s items to account for the new “pill and hole-punch” TrueDepth camera array design.
Another alleged screenshot from ShrimpApplePro shows how the entire status bar is arranged on the iPhone 14 Pro Max, repositioning the cellular signal, Wi-Fi, and battery indicators slightly lower and to the right.
The standard iPhone 14 models are expected to retain the same notch used on the iPhone 13 linep, with the “pill and hole-punch” being one of the main selling points of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The devices are also expected to feature the A16 chip, an always-on display, a 48-megapixel Wide camera, and more.
