Another leak: The Asus ROG Ally will start at $600 with AMD Z1 and 256GB SSD
Just two days after a substantial leak pegged the price of Asus’ Steam Deck competitor at $699.99 with a Z1 Extreme chip and 512GB of storage, an extremely similar leak says the entry-level model with a vanilla Z1 processor and a 256GB SSD will cost $599.99.
As before, SnoopyTech was the first to spot the leak — and we similarly corroborated with Roland Quandt, who showed me the data so I could see it.

Leak: The Asus ROG Ally will cost $699.99 with an AMD Z1 Extreme
Sure, Asus can build a faster Steam Deck-like handheld gaming PC, but there’s no way it could compete with Valve on price, right?
Guess again. The higher-end Asus ROG Ally will apparently cost just $699.99. That’s for the model with an AMD Z1 Extreme chip, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD — meaning that Asus’ 512GB handheld costs just $51 more than a 512GB Steam Deck.
That’s according to data shown to The Verge by reliable gadget leaker Roland Quandt, and an earlier leak by SnoopyTech. The data we’ve seen leaves little room for confusion — even the product number associated with the $699.99 gadget identifies it as the Z1 Extreme model with 512GB of storage, and we’ve got a long list of marketing claims in our possession that also look…
AMD Announces New Processors For Powering Handheld PC Gaming
AMD has announced new Ryzen Z1 processors, explicitly meant to power portable PC devices. The Z1 series includes two processors: the Z1 and the Z1 Extreme. AMD is partnering with Asus to bring the first handheld PC device using these chips, the Asus ROG Ally.
As for the differences between the two processors, the Z1 has six cores and 12 threads, four AMD RNDA compute units, and a cache of 22 MB. According to The Verge, that offers a 55 percent power increase from the Steam Deck’s custom processing chip. The Z1 Extreme has eight cores and 12 threads, 12 AMD RNDA compute units, and a cache of 24 MB. For full details you can look on the AMD website.
AMD also claims that the processors will offer incredible battery life, due to the efficiency of Zen 4 architecture. AMD features like Radeon Super Resolution 2, Radeon Chill, Radeon Image Sharpening, AMD Link can be utilized with the chip to improve performance and battery life. AMD also claims that these handheld devices will offer seamless connection to your gaming libraries and access to PC Games through Xbox Game Pass Ultimate.
