Don’t worry, Skate still isn’t going to have paid loot boxes
If you were worried about the upcoming Skate reboot having loot boxes and the like, that’s very fair, but the devs promise it won’t.
EA and loot boxes are pretty synonymous with one another, so it’s very understandable if you have some apprehensions about Full Circle’s new Skate game. Concerns have also been growing slightly since a recent Insider Gaming report claimed that Skate does have a loot box system built into the game currently. Seemingly in response to this, the official Skate Twitter account posted a tweet with a reminder that the game is “not pay-to-win,” has “no map areas locked behind paywall, no paid loot boxes,” and “no paid gameplay advantages.”
According to Insider Gaming’s report, the way you can unlock loot boxes currently is using a currency called Stars, which a previous datamine suggested you could receive by exchanging it with another currency called Taps, earned through tricks and generally just playing the game. Players apparently believe Taps could eventually be purchasable with real-world money, but if Full Circle is to be believed, it sounds like any loot boxes in the game will be entirely earned through in-game play.

The EU vote to take action against loot boxes, gaming addiction and gold-farming
The EU have voted to push for reform in the videogame industry, backing a report that takes aim at everything from loot boxes to human rights violations tied up with gold-farming. The report includes calls for better parental control options, “harmonised rules” compelling sellers to show more information about game content, and a clamp down on third-party skin gambling.
Those are all laudable goals, but time will tell how much change this actually amounts to.
Loot boxes suck, but they’re better than Overwatch 2’s monetisation
Overwatch 2’s monetisation system is a bit of a mess at the moment, and that’s putting it mildly. Blizzard’s hit FPS sequel has been roundly criticised by its own community for disregarding players less inclined to dip their toes into premium purchases, and it’s not difficult to see a glimmer of truth in the accusation. So far, both Overwatch 2 seasons have included a free battle pass that’s been populated with a meagre offering of low-value victory poses, sprays, and portraits – all of which pale in comparison to its premium counterpart.
If you’re a free-to-play consumer, you can forget the highly coveted mythic skins splashed over the main menu that sit at the culmination of the premium Overwatch 2 battle pass. The free version of the battle pass doesn’t even include legendary items. Do you like new and exciting cosmetics for your favourite heroes? Do you like reaping the rewards of your hard-won victories in a live-service videogame? Tough ta-tas, because Overwatch 2 doesn’t care… unless you’re paying for it.

Why You Shouldn’t Throw Christmas Gift Boxes on the Curb
The holiday season isn’t just busy for those traveling to see friends and family. It’s also a busy time of the year for thieves. And unfortunately, those boxes you throw out on the curb for that big screen TV or new Playstation 5 show thieves exactly what you have inside the house.

GTA roleplay servers can’t include crypto, loot boxes, or NFTs
GTA roleplay servers are a core part of the long lasting nature of Grand Theft Auto 5 and Online’s appeal. These servers often change the makeup of the multiplayer game to a drastic degree, letting players act out fantasies like cops and robbers, plan out online bank heists, or form factions that rule over select parts of the open-world game. That said, Rockstar and Take-Two have some rules about these GTA roleplay servers, including how they feel about crypto, NFTs, and loot boxes ending up in them.
