Acer’s Vero 514 brings its ‘eco-conscious’ concept to a Chromebook
Acer is adding a Chromebook to its Vero lineup, which it says is meant to offer laptop buyers an “eco-conscious” option. Like the (rather disappointing) Windows laptop that came before it, the Chromebook Vero 514 is made using recycled plastics, has a chassis that’s 99 percent recyclable, and comes in packaging that’s 90 percent recycled paper, according to the company. Acer’s press release even suggests that part of the Chromebook’s packaging can be “transformed into a multi-purpose triangular laptop stand,” if you’re loathe to throw anything away.
Before we go over the recyclability, though, let’s quickly go through the specs — it weighs in at just a hair over 3 pounds, which is reasonable for a laptop with a 14-inch screen, and is…

ChromeOS: Tips, tools, and other Chromebook intelligence
Google’s ChromeOS platform sure has come a long way.
From the early days, when ChromeOS was little more than an experimental “browser in a box,” to today — with the platform powering first-class hardware and supporting a diverse range of productivity applications — Google’s once-crazy-seeming project has turned into one of the world’s most intriguing and rapidly expanding technological forces.
I’ve been covering ChromeOS closely since the start. I lived with the first Chromebook prototype, the Cr-48, and have used Chromebooks as part of my own personal computing setup in varying capacities ever since. I write about the field not only as someone who’s studied it professionally from day 1 but also as someone who has used it personally that entire time, up through today.
Save 50% on a Lenovo 14e Chromebook that’s great for students
SAVE 50%: Looking for a good back-to-school Chromebook deal? It doesn’t get much better than this Lenovo 14e Chromebook on sale for just $149.99 at Amazon — that’s $150 off its MSRP and the lowest price we’ve seen.
Many more grade school, middle school, high school, and college students need access to their own computer for their schoolwork (and entertainment purposes). But knowing what kind to get — and how much money to drop — can get pretty complicated with the extensive options out there. If you’re not looking to spend an arm and a leg, and want something with no frills that can simply get the job done, consider a Chromebook.
As of August 5, you can pick up the Lenovo 14e Chromebook on sale for only $149.99 at Amazon. That’s 50% off MSRP and the lowest price on record.
Some Chromebooks are lightweight and ultra-portable, while others are bricks. The Lenovo 14e falls somewhere in the middle at a little over 3 pounds. It also packs a 14-inch full HD display, so students can stream their favorite shows in 1920 x 1080 pixels. It’s right on par with the average Chromebook with 4GB RAM and 32GB of built-in storage, but with nearly everything being stored in the cloud (Google Drive comes with 15GB for free), it isn’t a huge deal. Plus, it comes with two USB-C and two USB-A ports, so you can expand the storage if necessary.
While the Lenovo 14e Chromebook isn’t going to run power-sucking apps like Photoshop, it should be plenty capable for schoolwork, basic tasks, and media consumption — which is what most students need it for. Plus, at $150, it’ll be hard to find a better deal.
