Why Cobra Kai Waited Until Seasons 5 To Break Out Daniel’s Iconic Move
The first four seasons of Cobra Kai have paid tribute to the trilogy of Karate Kid films in a number of ways, from a long list of characters entering the picture once again, to locations, storylines, and even props. One particular nod to the franchise that started it all was notably missing, though, until now.
Warning: The following contains spoilers for the Season 5 finale of Cobra Kai. If you haven’t watched it yet, turn away now.
In the Season 5 finale of Cobra Kai, the battle between Cobra Kai and seemingly everyone else comes to a head when Daniel (Ralph Macchio) goes toe-to-toe with Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) in a karate fight to end all karate fights. And in that fight, Daniel breaks out a move we haven’t seen him do since the ’80s to overcome his foe. That’s right, after five seasons of the show, we finally see Daniel dust off the Crane Kick–the iconic move from the original Karate Kid film.

New On Netflix In September 2022: Cobra Kai Season 5, Hunter X Hunter And Other Classic Animes
Netflix is getting even bigger in September, with more new movies and TV shows to watch–including original content.
On September 9, Cobra Kai comes back for Season 5. A synopsis for the season reads: “As Terry leads Cobra Kai into a new regime, Daniel, Johnny and an old ally join forces in a battle that goes way beyond the mat.” Netflix released some images from the upcoming batch of seasons in August, and if they’re anything to go by, the karate family drama is kicking and chopping things up several notches. Season 4 ended with the conclusion of the All Valley Tournament, and the villainous Terry Silver (Thomas Ian Griffith) is looking to expand his Cobra Kai empire by trying to make his style of karate the only game in town.
In other exciting September news–Nippon TV and Netflix have recently inked a new licensing deal to bring some of the best anime series to the streaming platform. An exciting total of 13 anime series from the Japanese network will start hitting the streaming platform’s library starting in September. On September 1 alone, 38 episodes of the popular Hunter X Hunter, Ouran High School Host Club, and Claymore will all be available. A full list of series and episode counts can be found here.
Ferris Bueller’s Day Off Spin-Off Coming From Cobra Kai Creators – Report
A Ferris Bueller’s Day Off spin-off centered on the valets who recklessly drive Cameron’s Ferrari in the classic 1986 film starring Matthew Broderick is in the works at Paramount Pictures, according to Deadline. The film, which doesn’t yet have a release date, is tentatively titled Sam and Victor’s Day Off.
The spin-off is coming from Cobra Kai creators Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, and Josh Heald. Cobra Kai writer Bill Polsey is set to write the film. In Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the valet attendants were not given official names and were not exactly fleshed-out characters–which should give the film a nice blank canvas to start from in dreaming up whatever it may eventually offer. With so much talent around the project coming over from Cobra Kai, Sam and Victor’s Day Off is in the hands of individuals who have been successfully working to extend another iconic ’80s property.
In the original film, the valets were played by Richard Edson and Larry “Flash” Jenkins, who died in 2019. (Edson has continued to work steadily in films.) Paul Young (Key & Peele) is producing through his company, Make Good Content, whose executive Devon Young will oversee the project. Stephen Cedars, Benji Kleiman, and Scott Yacyshyn will be associate producers.
