Cocaine Synthesized In a Tobacco Plant
In studying the coca plant, the researchers discovered that the cocaine that winds up in its leaves is not produced by elements in the plant converting 4-(1-methyl-2-pyrrolidinyl)-3-oxobutanoic acid to hyoscyamine, as has been thought. They found that it is instead produced by the two enzymes, EnMT4 and EnCYP81AN15. To prove their discovery, the group genetically engineered a tobacco plant to produce the two enzymes in its leaves, which resulted in the production of small amounts of cocaine (with assistance from a substance also produced in the plant called ornithine, which is similar to the precursor in the coca plant). […] Not mentioned in the paper is the possibility of synthesizing the two enzymes produced by both the coca and engineered tobacco plant as a more direct way to synthesize cocaine.

‘Cocaine Bear’ strikes with a darkly comedic trailer full of coke-fueled rampages
Inspired by outrageous true events from 1985 in which a black bear got his paws into quite the sticky situation — that being cocaine — director Elizabeth Banks and writer Jimmy Warden bring us the turbulent and satirical Cocaine Bear trailer.
After a cocaine-filled plane crashes and leaves the drug’s whereabouts unknown, absolute carnage is afoot when a raging bear finds and ingests the products. As the town’s inhabitants, local tourists, and crime-loving teens attempt to retrieve the missing drugs, the bear (high out of his mind) advances into a coke-fueled attack on anyone in sight. The trailer promises nothing short of violent amusement as an apex-predator becomes a town’s worst nightmare in this comedy-thriller venture.

Equalizer 3: Film Caterers Busted With 120 Grams Of Cocaine On Set
Denzel Washington’s Equalizer is all about righting wrongs, but this week the crime on set was real instead of fictional, as Italian police seized over 100 grams of cocaine from some of the film’s caterers, Variety reports.
Investigation began after the head of the film’s catering company died suddenly of a heart attack on Monday night. Small packages of cocaine were found among his clothing, sending the police toward the catering company’s hotel rooms. There, police found 120 grams of cocaine, arrested two other members of the catering company on charges related to drug dealing, and revoked a third employee’s driers’ license for possession.
Equalizer 3 stars Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning, who starred together in the Tony Scott-directed film Man On Fire in 2004, 18 years earlier. Antoine Fuqua is directing the picture, with Richard Wenk writing. The pair also directed and wrote the first two Equalizer films. The picture is being filmed in Italy’s Amalfi coast area thanks to production incentives via production company Garbo Produzioni. Equalizer 3 is currently scheduled to release on September 1, 2023.
