STRIKING nurses won’t get a pay rise, says Therese Coffey as doctors warn the NHS is “close to collapse”.
The Health Secretary yesterday said she will not bow to the demands of the Royal College of Nursing.

The NHS’ biggest union is on the brink of its first ever strike in a ballot running until November.
Bosses say ministers’ offer of a four per cent pay rise does not keep pace with surging inflation – and want 17 per cent.
It comes as the British Medical Association warned hospitals face a crisis as half of consultants plan to take time out from the NHS next year.
Health Secretary Dr Coffey said on Sky News: “We have honoured the independent pay review body’s recommendations on this.

“That was higher than many of the other pay rises that other public sector workers are getting.
“I’m not anticipating that we’ll be making any further changes.”
Pat Cullen, the RCN’s general secretary, said: “This is an astonishing admission from the Health Secretary – she has already decided she won’t be listening to our half a million members.
“Ms Coffey has her head firmly in the sand.

“Nurses and support workers hearing this will be angry but it will make them even more determined.
“We have overwhelming public support to do what’s fair by nursing staff and what’s needed for safe patient care.”
Hospital doctors are also set to vote with their feet as waiting lists near a record 7million.
A British Medical Association poll found 44 per cent of consultants intend to quit or reduce NHS hours next year.
They blame below-inflation pay rises and high pension taxes.

Dr Vishal Sharma, BMA spokesperson, said: “The goodwill of staff upon which the NHS depends has all but dried up.
“Without immediate action, the NHS is in danger of complete collapse.”

Coolio dead aged 59: Gangsta’s Paradise rapper’s cause of death unknown after ‘collapsing at friend’s house’
GANGSTA’S Paradise rapper Coolio has reportedly died at age 59.
The legendary rapper, whose real name is Artis Leon Ivey Jr, died on Wednesday after reports that he collapsed while at a friend’s house.
No cause of death for the star has been revealed[/caption]
Coolio’s longtime manager, Jarez, told TMZ that the rap icon was visiting a friend in Los Angeles when he died.
He reportedly went to use the restroom and never came out.
The friend eventually went to check on Coolio and found him on the floor.
An official cause of death has not yet been released.

ABC News reporter Chris Cristi revealed that as of 4pm PST, police were still on the scene at the home where the prolific singer was found dead.
Coolio was an up-and-comer in the late 1980s who rocketed to fame in 1995 with Gangsta’s Paradise.
He recorded the song for the soundtrack for 1995 Dangerous Minds film.
His other hits included Fantastic Voyage, 1,2,3,4 (Sumpin’ New), and It’s All the Way Live (Now).

Coolio also did the theme song for the hit TV show Kenan & Kel, called Aw, Here It Goes.
Just days before his death, the rapper posted a video to his Instagram from an onstage performance in Texas.
He did not caption the post, instead letting the video speak for itself.
That post has become a makeshift memorial as fans learn of his death.

Dozens of comments read “RIP” with many in disbelief that the legend has passed.
“Rest in piece coolio omg,” one person wrote.
“Rest in Gangster’s Paradise,” another said.
Meanwhile, on Twitter, fans are sharing their favorite Coolio songs as they mourn.
“The way tv and hip-hop were so connected in the 90s is something i’ll never forget. and it gave us one of the best songs in the kenan and kel theme by coolio. rest in peace,” one person tweeted.
“Thank you coolio for giving us one of the best theme songs of all time,” wrote another.
COOLIO’S HISTORY
Coolio was born in August 1963 in Pennsylvania but later moved to Compton, California.
Once there, he joined WC and the Maad Circle in 1991.
Years later, in 1994, he signed with Tommy Boy Records and released his debut album It Takes a Thief.
The album’s lead single, Fantastic Voyage, as well as another single, called It Takes a Thief, propelled him toward notoriety.
Gansta’s Paradise was released in the mid-90s, at which point Coolio really rose to fame.
He went on to record Aw, Here It Goes! which was used as the opening sequence of Nickelodeon’s Kenan & Kel.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Coolio appeared on reality TV.
He landed his own Oxygen show in 2007 called Coolio & The Gang.

Coolio is survived by six children and his ex-wife Josefa Salina, who he married in 1996.
The couple divorced four years after tying the knot.
