Don’t think you have to pay full price to get the Beats Fit Pro in new colors. Amazon is already selling the true wireless earbuds in Coral Pink and Volt Yellow for $170, or $30 off. The discount doesn’t apply to Tidal Blue, alas, but this still means you can get vibrant hues for less than you’d pay for ‘safer’ options.
The new Beats Fit Pro variants are functionally identical to the originals, but that’s not a bad thing — they’re still our favorite wireless earbuds for workouts. The comfy, stable fit and sweat resistance make them well-suited to the gym. Solid active noise cancellation (ANC) helps you tune out the rest of the world. And importantly, their sound quality is better than you might expect. You’ll get Beats’ signature bass, but it’s balanced and doesn’t overpower higher-frequency elements, Toss in six hours of listening per charge with ANC enabled and these are buds you can use throughout the day.
You may still want to consider other earbuds, such as the AirPods Pro if you find them on sale. There’s no wireless charging on the Beats Fit Pro, and the ANC is stronger on Apple’s higher-end models. And while Beats’ Android support is robust, you may want to look at options like the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro or Pixel Buds Pro if you want something particularly Android-friendly. If those aren’t obstacles, though, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better value.

As part of the refreshed color launch coming this Thursday, February 23, Beats is debuting a new “LOCK IN. WORK OUT.” marketing campaign featuring singer/songwriter Chlöe Bailey and tennis player Frances Tiafoe.
Rather than the iconic stems of AirPods, Beats Fit Pro offer a lower-profile look that emphasizes an in-ear design but includes flexible wingtips on top for increased stability. With no stems for force sensors like on AirPods and AirPods Pro, Beats Fit Pro controls are on the main body of each earbud with essentially the entire outer surface of each bud being a clickable button with the “b” Beats logo on it.
The onboard buttons offer the standard set of audio controls, with a single press allowing for play/pause for audio or answer/hang up for phone calls. A double press skips forward to the next audio track, while a triple press skips backward.
Each earbud also supports a press-and-hold function that can be configured independently for each side, such as using one side to activate Siri if you don’t wish to use the “Hey Siri” trigger phrase and the other side to cycle through listening modes (ANC, Transparency, and off). Alternatively the press-and-hold function can be used for onboard volume control with one bud raising the volume and the other lowering it.
Battery life for Beats Fit Pro checks in at around six hours with ANC or Transparency mode turned on and up to seven hours with those features turned off. The USB-C charging case lets you carry another 21 hours of battery life with you.
Overall, Beats Fit Pro have proven very popular with users, as many find the buds more comfortable to wear than AirPods Pro, especially when working out or otherwise being active, and they offer solid sound quality and ANC. For more on Beats Fit Pro, be sure to check out our original hands-on coverage.
Offered at the same $199.99 pricing as other colors, the three new Beats Fit Pro colors join the existing Stone Purple, Sage Gray, Beats White, and Beats Black options that were part of the original launch, as well as the neutral skin-tone Moon, Dune, and Earth colors launched last August in collaboration with Kim Kardashian. Orders placed through Apple can be personalized with free engraving on the charging case.

My unofficial beat at Mashable is complaining about Apple’s phone colors. The “deep purple” iPhone wasn’t purple enough for me, and I am still waiting for the hot pink Barbie iPhone of my dreams.
Today, Samsung entered the ring. Leaks of its new Samsung Galaxy S23 line speculated about four new colors: Phantom Black, Botanic Green, Cotton Flower, and Misty Lilac. And those the are the kind of names that come to play. Just by reading them, I have a pretty good idea of what they look like. Plus, they make me feel valued as a consumer because I know someone took at least one minute to think about what to call them.
It turns out I trust too easily because today Samsung released the official color names and they are Phantom Black, Cream, Green, and Lavender. I may not be a color expert, but I am a color enthusiast, and I have feedback.
The Phantom Black and Cream are accurate enough, but Lavender and Green have it coming.
Let’s look at the “lavender” first, which more of a pink than a purple and more of a lilac than a lavender (lilac flowers are softer and more pink than lavender flowers which are more of a true purple). I tried to match Pantone colors to the official photo of the S23 and found that, at its lightest, Samsung’s idea of “Lavender” a bit grey. At its darkest, it’s what Pantone calls “Orchid Ice.” Samsung, I cannot accept this.
“Green” is way, way too broad a color category. And remarkably, even though the color green applies to a least a hundred shades, it barely applies to this one. Grey? Charcoal? Maybe. The Pantone color I found to match the top is called “Sedona Sage,” which I think is a stretch but would be a major upgrade from “green.” Someone at Samsung was dead asleep at the wheel during this conference call. Another L for Samsung.
I’m picky about color but I have numbers on my side. A Forbes headline read “The Samsung Galaxy S23 Series is gorgeous, despite its muted colors” and a Twitter user racked up more than 3,500 likes bemoaning Samsung’s perception of color and lame names. Well, there’s always next year.
