Family devastated as father and son missing in Costa del Sol now being treated as double murder by British police
COPS are treating the disappearance of a dad and son as a double murder three years after they vanished.
Danny and Liam Poole went missing in April 2019 after flying to the Spanish coast with £20,000 in their luggage – believed to be part of a shady drug deal.
They checked into Estepona’s Valle Romano hotel and met two British crooks – thought to be among the last to see them alive – for dinner at a Chinese restaurant on April 1.
The last known sighting of Danny – who family say was planning to buy property on the Costa del Sol – came the next morning when he was caught on CCTV leaving the Valle Romano alone by car.
Danny and Liam’s hire car was discovered abandoned two miles from their hotel a month after they went missing.
Now British police have launched a double murder investigation – confirming their family’s worst fears.

Liam’s sister Lauryn Poole, 23, told The Mirror: “There are more bad days than good days now. On the bad days, I’d been holding on to the idea that maybe everyone had got it wrong.
“There was hope there but now it’s gone. It’s brought on a whole new level of grief, and I’ve really struggled to accept it.”
Liam’s mum Lisa Berwick, 46, added: “I knew it from the start, but it still hurts to hear it.”
She says the cops’s decision to treat it as murder is “progress” and is hoping it will bring her family “answers and closure”.

Spanish authorities closed the case just five months after the pair disappeared off the face of the earth.
The Sun previously told how Lisa and her family lived their worst nightmare when they received terrifying ransom messages following Liam’s disappearance.
The message, addressed to Liam’s sister Lauryn, read: “If you want to see your dad and brother alive again, come to Tangier with £100K. You have 24 hours.”
British detectives whisked beautician Lauryn, 21, to a hotel hideaway where she was wired up in the hope of communicating with the ‘kidnappers’.

The family scrambled to raise the ransom cash while Lauryn spent a week messaging her dad and brother’s apparent captors to arrange the money-drop.
But after days of ominous silence she then received a chilling second message saying: “Time’s up.”
Japan vs Costa Rica – World Cup Group E: How they’re doing, injuries and prediction as Japanese look to qualify
JAPAN are looking to book a place in the World Cup knockout stages against all odds as they take on Costa Rica.
Few would have given the Japanese any chance of progressing to the last 16 when the draw paired them with big-hitters Spain and Germany.
But following one of the great World Cup shocks, they are now in a position to progress with a game to spare.
Samurai Blue will be heavy favourites to beat Costa Rica, who already look like they need a miracle to go through.
Indeed, for the Central Americans, a result here is vital.
SunSport takes a look at what to expect from Japan vs Costa Rica, including our score prediction.

How are they getting on?
Japan: One of the tournament’s big surprise packages after picking up a stunning 2-1 win over Germany.
That result has put them in position to effectively secure qualification if they achieve a better result against the Costa Ricans than the Germans manage against Spain.

Costa Rica: Things can only get better!
The Ticos looked the worst team in the tournament by far as they got pumped 7-0 without managing a single shot, let alone a shot on target.

Any injuries to worry about?
Japan: Japan have a clean bill of health as they look to book their place in the last 16.
But following the success of manager Hajime Moriyasu’s five substitutions in the second half against Germany he may well be tempted to shuffle the pack.
Costa Rica: In a small silver lining from their hammering against Spain, Costa Rica have no fresh injury concerns.
However, it would be difficult to claim any of Luis Fernando Suarez’s starting XI wrote their name automatically onto the team sheet with that performance. Keylor Navas is a dead cert to start in goal though.
Who will be the star men?
Japan: Former Arsenal striker Takuma Asano started on the bench against Germany.
But after his winning goal in that game, he may well be favoured for a full 90 minutes.
Gunners’ defender Takehiro Tomiyasu was also an assured presence at the back after coming on against the Germans and could start here.
Costa Rica: If the Ticos play as badly as they did against Spain then Keylor Navas will need to be in top form.
There is always an element of expectation around former Arsenal winger Joel Campbell but he will have to offer a lot more than he did on Wednesday.

What’s the head-to-head?
The two sides have never met in a tournament but have played each other five times in friendlies.
And it’s Japan who have had the whip hand in those encounters.
The Japanese have won four of their five meetings and scored three goals in each of those wins, with the other match being a 1-1 draw in Yokohama in 2002.
The teams last met in September 2018 with Japan running out 3-0 winners in Suita.

Football news LIVE: Wolves still hopeful on Diego Costa deal EXCLUSIVE, Champions League updates, transfer news
THE transfer window is sealed shut for another year – and clubs are bedding in their new signings ahead of the start of the Champions League group stage.
Though the deals are not quite finished yet, Wolves are still hopeful on completing a deal for Diego Costa.
Costa only missed out on the work permit he needs to play for Wolves by two points, which has left Bruno Lage hopeful he could yet land the veteran striker on appeal.
SunSport can reveal the 33-year-old former Chelsea, Atletico Madrid and Spain striker had to gain 15 points on the Home Office’s points-based system to be given their blessing to play in the UK – but Costa fell just short with 13.
