The Wordle board game is fun for dedicated players, but slightly boring for others
I will admit, I was late to the Wordle craze. I obsessively play Wordscapes and Word Stacks, but something about seeing people tweet those little squares with their scores every day pissed me off to a point that I simply refused to play the game for a while. Being a hater is in my blood — I can’t help it.
Once my friends finally convinced me to give the game a try, I fully understood the hype. I spent hours playing the Wordle archive to make up for lost time. So, when I heard there would be a Wordle board game, I had to try it out.
The game released in October 2022 and retails for $19.99.
How do you even play Wordle IRL?
Each round of the game requires one player to be the host and come up with the secret word. The game comes with three whiteboards that look like the online Wordle grid, where other players write their guesses. The host then places green and yellow tiles on the letters guessed correctly, while leaving incorrect letters blank (instead of placing gray tiles, like in the virtual game).
It’s almost exactly like the online version of the game, just a little more manual. There aren’t any new elements or rules to the board game, which is good for die-hard Wordle fans.

Is playing Wordle in person actually fun?
The appeal of Wordle as a board game is that you get to make up your own words. You can play it safe with the included list of suggested words or get raunchy and make your friends guess some more adult words or inside jokes. It has the same sort of vibe as Telestrations but without any drawing.
Overall, the game was fun, but there were enough annoyances that I don’t know that I’d ever reach for Wordle over some of the other options in my game cabinet.
First of all, only four people can play the game at a time. My usual game night group consists of five people, so either someone sat out or we had a team of two on one of the boards. I wish this game were designed for at least six people.

Another issue was timing. One person might finish their guess a lot sooner than the others and move on to the next round. My friends and I had to make sure the host wasn’t putting tiles on anyone’s boards until everyone was on the same line. One of the great things about Wordle online is that there is no time limit so you don’t feel rushed. But I found myself wishing there were an included hourglass timer we could’ve used. Not having a time limit made the game stretch out and have boring moments of downtime for some players.
That said, it was really fun to choose a random word and see if my friends and I could get into each other’s minds to figure out what we came up with. Sometimes the words would be truly random and out there while other times it would be a callback to an earlier joke or conversation. It was also funny to watch us all struggle to remember what’s a real word and what’s not as we wrote our guesses.
The scorecard that comes with the game only has spaces for four rounds, and honestly, that’s all it needs. After each person had a turn at picking the word, we were all ready to be done playing and move on to the next game. It’s definitely a game that’s fun in short bursts.
Is the Wordle board game worth it?
If you’re an avid Wordle player, this is a really fun way to play with friends and get more than one word per day. As someone who petered out with the online version, I was not obsessed with the Wordle board game. But my friend, Nicole, who does still play every day, was very into the concept. So it really just depends on how much you love the original Wordle. I could also see the Wordle board game being more fun for elementary and middle school kids, or anyone trying to learn a new language.
The game only costs $20, so if it sounds even a little bit appealing, I’d give it a try. It might sit in the ranks with Codenames or Five Crowns for you.

In a post on the Royal Family’s official Instagram page, Charles shared a picture of the Queen holding him as a toddler.
Her Majesty Elizabeth II died peacefully aged 96 in September last year.
And Camilla shared a throwback picture of her and her mum Rosalind Shand, who died in July 1994.
The post read: “To all mothers everywhere, and to those who may be missing their mums today, we are thinking of you and wishing you a special Mother’s Day”.
King Charles‘ grandchildren Prince George, eight, Princess Charlotte, six, and Prince Louis, three, have some very sweet traditions when it comes to celebrating Kate on Mother’s Day each year.
Mothering Sunday for the Prince William, Princess Kate and their kids often involves messy cake-baking sessions, homemade cards and also paying tribute to Diana.
While the day is one of celebration, paying tribute to the likes of Kate and also the Queen, it can be a painful day for Prince William and Prince Harry.
Duncan Larcombe, Royal Author and former Royal Editor of The Sun, told Fabulous: “It wasn’t until the aftermath of the Death of Princess Diana in 1997, that Mother’s Day took on an extra significance for the Royals.
“Since then, the fourth Sunday in the Christian festival of Lent – when Mother’s Day is marked in the UK – is shrouded in sadness for William and Harry.
“Both the boys have spoken about how difficult they find the day, which for years they would always dread.
“Prince Charles and the rest of the family were at pains to throw a ring of cotton wool around Diana’s children on the Mothering Sundays that followed her death.
“But this changed when first William and then Harry had children of their own.
“Now the focus is on using the day as a chance to tell their children about the amazing grandmother they never met.”

ADHD Startups Are Exploding, and Now There’s Even a Dedicated Browser
So how does it work? To nullify distractions, the browser incorporates AdBlock 2.0; a Focus Mode Timer disables all sounds, badges and notifications for a selected time or indefinitely; a Task Manager organizes your day; and there’s a built-in Pomodoro timer; it also claims to run 3x faster than Chrome, which, apparently, is important for ADHD sufferers. Suffice it to say, it has a number of other distraction-killing features; however, I’m not going to list them all here.
CEO and founder Dmitry Pushkarev said, in a statement, “Modern browsers are not designed for work, but for consuming web pages. This gap really hurts hundreds of millions of users. We are convinced that lowering web distraction reduces anxiety and increases the quality of people’s work and the quality of their lives.” He says the startup plans to make money via corporate subscribers, who will pay to get their ADHD-afflicted workers into a more productive mode.

World’s Last Dedicated Meccano Factory To Close In France
Now the last dedicated Meccano factory in the world is being closed and dismantled. The Canadian company that owns Meccano has said the plant at Calais will close at the beginning of 2024, putting 51 people out of work. It blamed the soaring cost of raw materials and “a lack of competitiveness” for the closure. Spin Master, which bought the brand in 2013, said Meccano toys would continue to be produced by its “network of partners in Europe, Asia and Latin America.”
“We have no other choice than to envisage the end of industrial activity at the Calais factory,” Spin Master said in a statement, adding that the factory had “never managed to break even” in spite of receiving 7 million euros in investment since 2014.
Meccano was the largest toy manufacturer in the UK by the 1930s. “By the 1920s Meccano Magazine had a monthly circulation of 70,000 and Meccano groups had sprung up around the world,” adds The Guardian. “It has been in decline since the 1950s.”
