The director of Final Fantasy 8 has shot down hopes that the next numbered Final Fantasy might see a remake once the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy comes to its conclusion. The reason? Simply that it’s a lot of damn work.
Paranormasight: The Seven Mysteries Of Honjo isn’t your average visual novel. There are some buck wild concepts in Square Enix’s game, including fourth wall breaks to manipulate characters’ actions and literally muting someone by turning voices off in the options menu, to name just two of the wackier features (and a big plot twist is discussed in this article, so beware if you’re planning on playing Paranormasight soon).
At the outset, though, Paranormasight loks like it is your average visual novel, with the player working away to prevent curses from claiming the lives of Tokyo citizens. Writer and director Takaya Ishiyama explains this was actually the starting point for Paranormasight’s inception. “I first decided what the final goal of the game would be, and from there I began to plot out the broad elements I needed to include, such as the Seven Mysteries,” he explains.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom literally just came out, but its director is apparently already thinking about the next game.
If you’ve spent any time with Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom over the past day, you’ll probably be aware that this thing is massive. There’s easily 100 hours worth of stuff to do there, and likely more, so it’s probably something that will keep us busy for years to come. That’s a good thing too, because apparently director Hidemaro Fujibayashi is already thinking about the next game.
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Fujibayashi alongside Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma spoke about the game, including what some of their favourite side quests are in Tears of the Kingdom, and other topics (thanks, GamesRadar). What’s most interesting though actually came from a tweet from the writer behind the interview, Zachary Small, who wrote, “… it seems likely that Fujibayashi already has plans for the next Zelda game – though he hasn’t even told Aonuma about it yet.”
FFXIV director Naoki Yoshida loves videogames, and he wants you to play more of them. Final Fantasy XIV has long been commended for not demanding your constant attention the way the classic MMORPG grind popularised by the likes of EverQuest and World of Warcraft has done in the past. Now, among plenty of big releases including Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, Star Wars Jedi Survivor, and Diablo 4 headlining the coming months, ‘Yoshi-P’ says he’s making it easier to get gear in FFXIV to give you more time to play other games.

If you’ve just discovered writer-director Lee Cronin thanks to Evil Dead Rise—which hit streaming this week, and is still playing in theaters—you should check out his prior feature, The Hole in the Ground, but also this short film he made a decade ago. Who’s in the mood for a spectacularly creepy abandoned carnival?
