Husband’s question over if it’s wrong to date an old flame while his wife has dementia leaves internet divided
THE internet is divided after a man asked for advice on whether it’s wrong to date an old flame while his wife has advanced dementia.
The anonymous husband posed the question about finding love again after serving as his wife’s sole caregiver for years.

The husband told The Washington Post’s Amy Dickinson in her advice column that he placed his wife in an assisted living memory care facility last year.
In the emotional message, the man said that having to place his wife in the facility caused him to enter five months of psychotherapy while taking antidepressant medication.
“I’ve finally conquered my deep guilt and sense of having failed her,” he wrote.
According to the New England Journal of Medicine, advanced dementia patients experience “profound memory deficits (e.g., inability to recognize family), minimal verbal communication, loss of ambulatory abilities [and] the inability to perform activities of daily living.”

The husband said that he feels it was the right decision as the couple’s “55-year history together and our four children have faded from her memory.”
One day, the man posted about his wife’s illness and his loneliness without her on a Facebook page for his high school graduating class.
He said he received a message from a woman with whom he had a “lengthy, very steamy, lusty affair in 11th grade, suggesting that we might reestablish our acquaintance.”
“We haven’t communicated since we went our separate ways, many decades ago,” he wrote.

“I am sorely tempted to accept her suggestion.
“I have a photo of us at our prom, my arm around an exceptionally pretty girl in a strapless gown who liked to make out in secluded places.
“She played with my teenage libido like a yo-yo.”
He added: “I know it’s a fantasy memory. She’s probably gray, wrinkled, and overweight like me. But still.”
The man had not yet responded to the woman, explaining that he believed he took a vow to his wife until their dying day.
“But I wonder if her dying brain doesn’t meet that standard,” he wrote to Amy.
“Am I not entitled to some happiness, even as my wife descends into a deepening fog?”
He signed the note “Extremely Conflicted Husband.”
Dickinson, the Tribune company advice writer, responded with compassion.
“Your decision to place your wife in a memory care facility was so agonizing that it sent you into a serious depression. You were wise to seek therapy and treatment,” she wrote.
“If you override your own values and respond to this assertive advance, your mental health would probably be affected.”
She advised the man to discuss the idea in therapy and noted that communicating with high school friends could help him re-connect to the man he was before his wife’s diagnosis.
“But any person who would respond to your report of grief and loneliness by immediately implying a sexual reconnection is once again ‘playing your libido like a yo-yo,’” Amy noted.
“Elder libido is strikingly similar to teenage libido. The rush of attraction feels dangerous and wild,” she said.
“As long as you don’t abandon your wife, I don’t view this situation as adultery, but I believe that your emotional needs would best be served by a relationship that is supportive, kind and careful,” Amy concluded, noting that the decision to date could have “consequences” for the man’s entire family.
Readers shared mixed reactions on the man’s question in the comment section.
“Yes, you absolutely deserve some happiness, but you should be discerning about where you are most likely to find it,” one person said.
“This might be the kind of trouble you long for right now, but keep in mind that any relationship you engage in could have far-reaching consequences for your entire family.”
Another person wrote: “You still deserve to have a life, and to be cared for, yourself.
“A quick romp in the sack is not that. But should you find yourself getting closer to someone who can be a companion in your own older age, it’s OK to pursue that.
“Be prepared for others – especially your children – to not understand. So tread lightly.”
Another commenter said: “What kind of a woman responds to someone announcing that his wife has dementia with a sexual invitation?”

“I can’t speak for your wife however, if I had to leave my mate & go into a care facility, I would want my mate to find a companion,” a fourth said.
“To be in old age alone with only your memories is not a good choice if you have an alternative.”

During Ubisoft’s September 2022 Forward showcase, the developer announced a live-action series based on the game is in the works, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is coming to an end with a free content update, and new games titled Mirage, Red, Hexe.
The developer also shared the news that an “open-world version of Assassin’s Creed for smartphones, currently dubbed Jade,” is also being developed, The Verge explains.
Assassin’s Creed’s official Twitter page shared a series of tweets as the showcase was underway.
One tweet read: “Take a look at the exciting future for Assassin’s Creed! – Assassin’s Creed Mirage: coming 2023. – 2 new AAA games – A new mobile title – The end of Eivor’s story.”
However, fans of Assassin’s Creed have expressed different feelings regarding the news.
VALHALLA’S END
It was revealed that Eivor’s journey will be finding its conclusion with a free “quest arc” called The Last Chapter, the game series’ official Twitter page said.
The Last Chapter will be available in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla in the next few months, but an exact date has not been revealed.
One Twitter user responded: “Man ain’t no one care about this s**t anymore. Drop Mirage asap.”

“I won’t be playing,” said another.
However, others were excited about the announcement.
“Didn’t disappoint and for sure this too won’t,” a third gaming fan tweeted in response. “Can’t wait.”
A fourth commented: “I might reinstall Valhalla just for this.”
“Glad it’s free, was afraid I’d have to pay to figure out how exactly his story ends,” a fifth person wrote.
The Last Chapter comes after three previous additional content packs for the series, Dawn of Ragnarok, The Siege of Paris, and Wrath of the Druids.
“Unlike those, The Last Chapter is free for all Assassin’s Creed Valhalla players,” Polygon explains.
“In a brief clip shown Saturday, Eivor announces that she’s ready to leave her Viking camp and ‘set forth for distant shores and new adventures.’”
NEW GAME
Now, as for the new game titled Mirage, Assassin’s Creed’s next major game, it will “shift the time-traveling series to 9th-century Baghdad, where players will take on the role of a budding assassin named Basim,” according to The Verge.
The news outlet explained further: “Ubisoft says that the game will get back to the action-adventure roots of the series, which means that the RPG mechanics from more recent games will not be present.”
The game is set to launch sometime next year.
The series’ Twitter page said on Saturday: “Assassin’s Creed Mirage is set years before AC Valhalla and features a young Basim who will grow from a street thief to a Master Assassin.”
Some fans responded without excitement, with one commenting: “Eh. Interest just dropped.”
Another said: “I hope everyone that plays it enjoys but, I’ll be sitting this one out.”
But others are looking forward to Mirage.
One gamer said they were “hyped” while another said: “Good. Let’s freaking go!”
CREED RED
Meanwhile, another upcoming Assassin’s Creed game is codenamed Project Red.
Red, an open-world RPG that is set to be the next mainline game for Assassin’s Creed, takes place in Japan, GLHF’s Georgina Young explains.
Assassin’s Creed took to Twitter about the game, saying: “Experience the full Shinobi fantasy in our future open world RPG title set during Feudal Japan: Assassin’s Creed Codename RED.”
And fans appeared to reacted with overwhelming joy, with one commenting: “OMG OMG OMG.”
Others replied: “Sqqqueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Yaaassss!,” “RPG FINALY,” and “YESSSSSSSSIIIRRRRRRRRRR.”
However, others weren’t in agreement and criticized the move.
One seemingly unhappy gamer wrote: “The only thing that’s gonna make assassins creed – assassins creed again is a remake of the first one.
“You guys are at marvel level of milking this franchise at this point.
“Won’t spend a nickel or play the new game.”
Another wrote: “Kinda wasted the Japan setting on the rpg aspect tho.”
HEXE
Another upcoming game in development by Assassin’s Creed is codenamed Hexe, which means “witch” in German.
It will take on a “very different” and darker tone than other games in the series, according to Young.
The storyline, setting, and time period for Hex, which is being developed by Ubisoft Montréal, are not yet known.
On Saturday, Assassin’s Creed tweeted a short video clip, writing alongside it: “We work in the dark… That’s all we can say for now about Assassin’s Creed Codename HEXE.”
The footage showed sticks tied together and hanging from a tree, which led one Twitter user to comment: “I’m so lost.”
Other users commented on the number of games that have just been announced.
Two fans replied: “How many games are you announcing?” and “Y’all announced like 4 games.”
And one user insisted they were “not playing.”
But others seem to be looking forward to it, with one gamer writing: “I’m very curious about this one!”
LIVE ACTION
Assassin’s Creed also announced this weekend that “Ubisoft Television and Netflix are currently working together on the live-action Assassin’s Creed series and on an original mobile game!”
The announcement led fans to reveal the series “looks awful,” with one person commenting: “At this point, anything would be better than that movie.”
A second fan said: “Well you can’t do any worse than the movie you guys did.
“So if you are going to run the franchise into the ground bring on the tv show!”
A third replied: “WAIT I had no hope in the series but I’m putting my last effort into the mobile game.”
Despite the negative comments, some admitted they were looking forward to the series.

Despite being banished from a family party after making her sister cry, the woman does not feel she was in the wrong.
She said: “I have a younger sister Ella. She got married to Sam last year, and last Sunday was the baby shower. I knew she’d announce the gender and name at it, but Sam’s mother arranged it so it was a surprise.
“[During the gender reveal] pink comes out and we all cheer.
“Ella goes, ‘okay name reveal’ and that’s when she pulls out a baby onesie with ‘Samnella’ on it.
“There were a few ‘woo’ [noises] but [then] dead silence, and I laughed, thinking it wasn’t real. Then I said ‘Salmonella like food poisoning?’.”

She continued: “Sam’s mum freaks out about how it’s a beautiful name, Ella is screaming that I’ve ruined everything and the name was meant to signify the coming together of them.
“My own mother hissing that I should have kept my mouth shut, how the kid would probably go by Sammy.
“Not going to lie I left after that. I’m told the party went on but the mood was different.”
The controversial Reddit user said her sister claims people love the name, but she believes they are only being polite.
She added: “Family seems mixed on it, with a fair few agreeing Samnella does sound like salmonella, and caught off guard they’d have giggled too, but also a lot of ‘well, it’s her baby if she likes the name’”.
