Nintendo Has Had Some of the All-Time Best E3 Moments
Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo won’t participate in E3 2023
Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo give E3 the brush off
Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony are reportedly all skipping E3 2023
Nintendo, Sony, and Microsoft are all skipping the revitalized E3 convention in June, according to a new report from IGN. E3 will be back as an in-person conference in Los Angeles after not happening at all in 2022, and I personally was hopeful that the big three console makers would be at the show when it takes place from June 13th through 16th to help make it feel like the big event of years past. But according to IGN’s reporting, that’s not the case.
That said, it’s not entirely unexpected. Sony first skipped E3 in 2019 and hasn’t been part of the convention since. Microsoft said last week that it would be doing a showcase in LA this summer but didn’t outright say the words E3. Nintendo has proven time and time again that it can…
Microsoft Confirms Xbox Showcase This Summer In LA, But Doesn’t Mention E3
Following the Xbox Developer Direct event this week, Microsoft confirmed that it will have multiple other upcoming showcases in the future. These will include the previously announced Starfield “deep dive” presentation and an event in Los Angeles this summer.
Starfield wasn’t included in the Developer Direct so Microsoft and Bethesda could “dedicate the proper amount of time” to it.
As for the summer showcase, Microsoft said, “Our teams are working hard and look forward to sharing even more of what is next for our fans when we return to Los Angeles for our yearly showcase this summer.”
Starfield needs to reproduce Fallout 4’s E3 for new showcase to shine
As the Starfield release date draws ever closer, I’ve been thinking about how Bethesda announces its new RPG games. There has been a slow stream of information since the Starfield E3 2018 announcement, and Bethesda has understandably been playing its cards closer to its chest with reveals and new information, waiting to show us what it can when it’s ready. The thing is, there’s actually a way for the upcoming Starfield showcase to shine, and Bethesda already showed it to us with Fallout 4 at E3 2015.

Once-In-A-Lifetime E3 Comet, Which Has Nothing To Do With Gaming, Is Coming Close To Earth Soon
A comet that was only just discovered in the past year will approach Earth where it may be possible to see with the naked eye as soon as later this month. And you might want to go out and look for it, as experts say the comet isn’t likely to return to Earth’s orbit for at least another 50,000 years.
The comet, C/2022 E3 (ZTF), was first seen in March 2022 via a huge telescope when it passed through Jupiter’s orbit. The comet is referred to as the E3 Comet–though it has nothing to do with the big game show E3–and it comes from the Oort Cloud of the Earth’s solar system. NASA says this place is “like a big, thick-walled bubble made of icy pieces of space debris.”
The E3 comet, which experts believes dates back to 4.6 billion years ago when the solar system formed, is coming as close to Earth as it ever will on February 2. It has a bright green coma and a tail. Photographer Dan Bartlett took a photo of it using a big lens in December from June Lake, California (at an elevation of nearly 7,000 feet). You can see Bartlett’s images on Astrobin.
E3 2023: Everything We Know
E3 has been a staple of the games industry for decades, but it’s going through a massive transition right now. After a tumultuous few years punctuated by big publishers pulling out and the COVID-19 pandemic disrupting plans, the ESA canceled 2022’s E3. Months later, the ESA confirmed that E3 would return in 2023 with some major changes, including a new organizer.
Here’s everything we know about E3 2023, beginning with a recap of the events that got us here.
E3 is back in 2023
After a three-year hiatus from live events, the Electronic Entertainment Expo will return to the Los Angeles Convention Center for E3 2023 from June 13-16, and it will feature separate areas and days for industry and consumer events.
