Elden Ring developer receives more Sony and Tencent investment
Sony and Tencent are set to increase their investment in Elden Ring developer FromSoftware, also makers of some of the best RPG games including the Dark Souls series, Bloodborne, Sekiro, and Armored Core among others. The deal was announced by FromSoftware’s parent company, Kadokawa Corporation, with both companies previously having previous minor investments in the developer.
The deal was announced in a press release published by Kadokawa Corporation president Takeshi Tasuno (via Gematsu). Sony Interactive Entertainment is expected to increase its previously minor investment in FromSoftware to a total of 14.09% of the developer’s total shares, while Tencent Holdings is to increase its investment to 16.25% of FromSoftware’s shares through its subsidiary group Sixjoy Hong Kong Limited.
Sony’s further investment has already sparked plenty of rumours online about the possibility of additional collaboration projects with FromSoftware. While the Elden Ring and Dark Souls IP rights are owned by their publisher Bandai Namco, Sony has previously published both Demon’s Souls and Bloodborne from the Japanese development studio – meaning that many fans are now speculating about the possibility of a Bloodborne sequel or a new original game in partnership with Sony following this deal. The copyright for Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, while published by Activision, actually sits with FromSoftware themselves.

You can turn Elden Ring mounts against their masters
Some of the more fearsome Elden Ring mounts can be turned against their masters, it appears – as one particularly funny gameplay clip demonstrates. There are countless Elden Ring bosses and other foes in FromSoftware’s giant open-world game that ride upon a range of different creatures. While you might have faithful steed Torrent by your side, some of the enemy mounts can be much more monstrous – and, apparently, less willing to be ridden.
A clip posted to the Elden Ring subreddit by user lexbauvelt shows a rather dramatic instance of a fight against a Nox Swordstress riding a Giant Ant. You might assume that this partnership is the result of a symbiotic relationship between the two communities, developed over many years sharing the same space. However, this appears to not be the case, as the ants appear to be less than pleased about the whole situation.
In the clip, lexbauvelt knocks the Nox Swordstress (try saying that three times quickly) from her position atop the Giant Ant. The mysterious robed figure rises from the ground and prepares to continue her attack regardless – only to be dramatically impaled from behind by her former steed. As users in the comments point out, the ants have glowing magenta eyes that suggest they may have been charmed against their will by their Nox riders.

Elden Ring sales top 16.6 million copies worldwide
Bandai Namco has released its consolidated financial results for the first quarter of the fiscal year ending March 31, 2023, and the report notes a rather high number of Elden Ring sales.

The figure is quite a jump from May when the company reported 13.4 million units were sold within the first month of availability.
Pingu meets Elden Ring thanks to this fan-made Unity project
Remember Pingu? The kids claymation program that was on TV years ago, where the lovable penguin Pingu went out his daily life eating fish and getting yelled at by his dad? Thanks to the work of one Unity developer – Adrian Mendez – Pingu has found a new home far from the arctic as a boss in an Elden Ring inspired project uploaded to the creator’s channels for the world to see.
In the short video (embedded below) you can see a gargantuan Pingu break through the earth draped in red light. With a deep “Noot noot” he quickly raises a flipper and slaps the player character to death in a single strike in a scene eerily familiar to those with some time invested into Elden Ring.
Tragically, this is not a mod we can experience for ourselves. Instead, Mendez built the scene from the group up in Unity, writing in the description of the video: “This is not a game, just a little project. Sometimes I’m bored…” As for the inspiration for this short but sweet vid, Adrian points to a music mix titled ‘Pingu: NOOT NOOT Theme Song but it’s DARK SOULS BOSS MUSIC’ which alters Mozart’s Lacrimosa to better reflect a boss theme suitable for the beloved bird.
