An old AMD Athlon K7 Easter egg has a revolver and map of Texas etched onto the chip. They don’t make em like that anymore, eh?
Double Dragon Gaiden: How Roguelite Elements Add to the Beat ‘Em Up Classic
32 years later, Toxic Crusaders is getting a new beat ’em up
This rendercore shoot ’em up is the first Vampire Survivors riff to really make me feel something
Excellent Frostpunk-at-sea ’em up The Pale Beyond is coming this February
You may have seen I was dead excited about The Pale Beyond in our most anticipated games list the other week, and now we finally know when it’s coming out. Publisher Fellow Traveller have announced this Arctic naval expedition gone wrong will be setting sail on February 24th, so ready your blankets and hot cuppas, folks. This icy, story-driven survival ’em up will chill you the bone.
You can now prance about as an overpowered deer in neat survive ’em up 20 Minutes Till Dawn
Dasher the reindeer has found a side gig in 20 Minutes Till Dawn, a neat survive ’em up that’s like Vampire Survivors but with guns you have to aim. She’s been added as a human woman in a festive coat who intermittently turns into an invulnerable deer that can charge about the screen, plunging into enemies that would normally kill you in a heartbeat. She might be a little overpowered, but hey, it’s Christmas.
Tootle around Techtonica’s demo, an upcoming underground automate ’em up
If ‘Satisfactory but underground and with destructible terrain’ sounds appealing, you might want to stop reading this and start downloading Techtonica‘s demo – then come back and finish reading this, so I still feel useful. It’s a first-person factory-building game set in an alien cavern complex with pretty bioluminescent plants. I am excited to lose dozens or hundreds of hours to it when it launches on early access.
Intriguing medieval tactics ’em up Inkulinati launches Jan 31st
I can’t think of a better place for turn-based fights than in the margins of medieval manuscripts. There’s a wealth of weirdness to draw on, and Inkulinati seems admirably willing to dip its quill into messed-up cats and donkeys playing double-ended trumpets. We’ve been waiting a while for it, but we’ll only have to wait a little longer, as developers Yaza Games have just announced they’ll be launching on Steam Early Access on January 31st.
They’ve also sketched out a new demo to tide us over, and I’ve enjoyed my little poke at it.
Ace swing ’em up Spiderheck slings out custom trials and maps with portals
What if spiders had lightsabers is an impeccable premise for a game, and Spiderheck delivers on that premise with aplomb. It’s an arena fighting game geared towards couch co-op and couch competition, but there’s online play and single-player modes too. Yesterday’s “THE TRIALS OF JAZEPS” update added new difficulty levels to wave survival, as well as custom trials you can send to your friends.
It also chucks in some new maps with portals, because the only thing better than a lightsaber-wielding spider is a lightsaber wielding spider suddenly emerging from a portal.
