Emergency services rushed to LNER football stadium shortly after the full-time whistle blew.
Paramedics treated Anton at the scene but sadly nothing could be done to save him.
The cause of his death is not yet known.
Barnsley FC have since released a statement saying they are “deeply saddened” by the news and will be honouring the fan during Saturday’s game against Oxford.
The club said: “Barnsley Football Club is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of a supporter at Tuesday night’s fixture against Lincoln City.
“Anton Roberts received treatment from emergency services outside of the LNER Stadium following the game, but devastatingly, passed away last night.
“The club has been liaising with and will continue to support the family and friends of Mr Roberts through this exceptionally difficult time, whilst asking for their privacy to be respected.
“We encourage all supporters to join in the 61st-minute applause at Oakwell on Saturday in our game against Oxford United.
“Once a Red, Always a Red.”
Lincoln City FC also paid their respects.
They tweeted: “Everyone at Lincoln City offers their condolences to the friends and family of Anton Roberts.
“Our thanks to the first responders and emergency services who were quickly on scene for their efforts.”
It comes just days after the news a Crystal Palace fan died from severe brain injuries.
Liam Foley was hit by a bus and killed as he celebrated his team’s win against Leicester City in Brixton, South London, at the start of the month.
And last Thursday, a West Ham supporter passed away when he was struck by a train.
The Hammers fan, 57, was in the Belgian city of Ghent for the UEFA Conference League clash when he died.

The A-lister is aiming to turn the club into a global brand[/caption]
The A-lister wants to make the tiny Welsh outfit a household name across the planet with a range of household goods, clothes and toys.
He has trademarked’ Wrexham FC 1864’ and ‘Wrexham FC’ in the UK, plus ‘Wrexham is the Name’ and ‘Wrexham FC 1864’ in the US.
And he has an application for ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ to be trademarked with the US Patent and Trademark Office currently being examined.
The protection in the UK has been granted by the Intellectual Property Office and will stay in place for ten years.
His holding firm R.R. McReynolds Company LLC asked for the rights to market goods in five different classes.
These include flogging gear like clothes and sportswear, luggage, games and toys and the making of TV programmes, laying on football coaching services.
The star was in the UK this week to see Wrexham’s dramatic win over promotion rivals Notts County on Easter Monday.
The Hollywood actor was at the Racecourse Ground alongside co-owner Rob McElhenney to watch Wrexham clinch a thrilling 3-2 victory after goalkeeper Ben Foster made a 97th-minute penalty save.
The pair bought the club in 2020.
The win leaves Wrexham on the verge of clinching the single automatic promotion spot to League Two and a return to the Football League for the first time since relegation in 2008, and means Notts County will need to go through the play-offs despite amassing more than 100 points this season.
EA shows off the future of Sports FC, which is triangles apparently
EA has shown off the future of FIFA, or EA Sports FC as it is now called, with a first look at the rebranded logo.
Last year, EA announced that it planned to split off from the football organisation FIFA, putting an end to the pair’s almost 30-year run of games. Now, EA has given us a small look, specifically of the new logo, which is literally just the EA Sports logo, and the letters F and C made to look like a triangle. A bit minimalist, but it’s a big win for triangle fans at the very least.
In a press release from EA, the developer and publisher shared that “FC will become EA SPORTS platform to create, innovate and grow new football experiences, connecting hundreds of millions of fans through console, mobile, online and esports products.”
