Rumoured Halo Infinite battle royale dev says upcoming project is “something big and new for the franchise”
There’s been a rumour for a while that Certain Affinity is working on a Halo Infinite battle royale, and the studio has recently promised that the project it is working on is “something big and new for the franchise.”
Back in August of 2020, the Halo Infinite store page made a mention of a battle royale mode, and later that year a rumour emerged that suggested the game would in fact be receiving such a mode sometime in 2021. That obviously never happened, but frequent Halo assist studio Certain Affinity is working on something to do with Halo Infinite, and there are plenty of rumours that that is where the battle royale mode is being developed. And now, Certain Affinity executive Paul Sams has somewhat teased the project (thanks, Eurogamer).
“The biggest thing we’re doing that’s public right now, for more than two years now we’ve been working on Halo Infinite doing something that – they’re very prescriptive about what we can say,” Sams told VentureBeat. “But we’re doing something unannounced, and we’re doing lead development on that unannounced thing, from conception and design.

Battlefield 2042 “strayed a little too far” from what makes a Battlefield game, says franchise boss
EA’s Vince Zampella has said that when it comes to Battlefield 2042, DICE “strayed a little too far” from what makes Battlefield a Battlefield game.
Speaking in an interview with Barrons, Zampella said the team behind the game may have also been a bit too ambitious.
“I think they just strayed a little too far from what Battlefield is,” he said (via VGC). “They tried to do a couple of things that were maybe ambitious: grow the player count, etc. I don’t think they spent enough time iterating on what makes that fun.
Codename Red will take the Assassin’s Creed franchise to feudal Japan
The game Assassin’s Creed fans have been asking for years is finally on its way. During its Ubisoft Forward event on Saturday, the publisher revealed Codename Red, a new entry in the series that will be set in feudal Japan. Franchise head Marc-Alexis Côté called Red the “next premium title” in Ubisoft’s open world series and said Ubisoft Quebec was leading work on the project, suggesting it will hew closer to Odyssey than next year’s Mirage.

Côté also shared a teaser for Codename Hexe and called it “a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game.” Ubisoft Montreal, the studio that first created the series is leading development on the project, with Clint Hocking involved as creative director. Hocking may not be a household name, but he’s probably among the most influential designers at Ubisoft, with credits that include Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Far Cry 2. According to a recent report from Bloomberg’s Jason Scheier, the game is set during the latter stages of the Holy Roman Empire.
Neither game has a release date yet, but Ubisoft said they would both integrate with Infinity, a service Côté called “not a game per se, but a single entry point into the series.” Ubisoft was cryptic about what Infinity would involve but Côté said the company was exploring the possibility of creating standalone multiplayer experiences within the hub.
