Gavin Williamson ‘told senior civil servant to slit your throat and jump out of a window’
SIR Gavin Williamson told a senior civil servant to “slit your throat” and ”jump out of a window”, it was claimed last night.
An MoD official told the Guardian Sir Gavin “deliberately demeaned and intimidated” them regularly when he was Defence Secretary between 2017 and 2019.
The official, who has left government, said the alleged behaviour was reported to the MoD’s head of human resources but did not make a formal complaint.
They told the Guardian Sir Gavin ‘shouted and raged’ and the ‘slit your throat’ comment was made in front of other shocked civil servants during a meeting.
Sir Gavin denies bullying the official.
He said in a statement: ‘I strongly reject this allegation and have enjoyed good working relationships with the many brilliant officials I have worked with across government.’

Gavin Newsom signs California social media overhaul for minors
California Governor Gavin Newsom has signed the California Age-Appropriate Design Code Act, a law mandating additional safeguards for minors on social media. The bill, AB 2273, passed the state legislature in August, and it’s slated to go into effect on July 1st, 2024.
AB 2273’s supporters pitched it as a supplement to federal online child protection laws, which apply to children under 13. The law raises the age bar to 18, and it covers web services “likely” to get underage visitors, not just those aimed at kids. These sites must assess the potential harms for children on their platform, limit data collection and sharing for these users, and attempt to estimate the age of children on the platform. The post included a picture of the no-nonsense character, who is played by Ruth Jones in Gavin & Stacey, against the Strictly backdrop.
Some quickly clocked the post as a joke, but others took it at face value.
One follower wrote: “OMG, can’t wait” while another raved: “I mean that’s BLOODY AMAZING.”

The account later admitted the tweet was a joke – not least because Nessa is a fictional character.
Plus, there are only 15 contestants on Strictly and they have already been announced – with The Sun revealing the full line-up this morning.
One fan replied: “Cruel. Very cruel. .”
Ruth Jones – who co-created and wrote Gavin & Stacey with James Corden, tweeted emojis of a laughing face, dancing woman and a disco ball.
