Denmark and Germany Now Building the World’s Longest Immersed Tunnel
The tunnel, which will be 18 kilometers (11.1 miles) long, is one of Europe’s largest infrastructure projects, with a construction budget of over 7 billion euros ($7.1 billion). […] It will be built across the Fehmarn Belt, a strait between the German island of Fehmarn and the Danish island of Lolland, and is designed as an alternative to the current ferry service from Rodby and Puttgarden, which carries millions of passengers every year. Where the crossing now takes 45 minutes by ferry, it will take just seven minutes by train and 10 minutes by car. The tunnel, whose official name is Fehmarnbelt Fixed Link, will also be the longest combined road and rail tunnel anywhere in the world. It will comprise two double-lane motorways — separated by a service passageway — and two electrified rail tracks. “Today, if you were to take a train trip from Copenhagen to Hamburg, it would take you around four and a half hours,” says Jens Ole Kaslund, technical director at Femern A/S, the state-owned Danish company in charge of the project. “When the tunnel will be completed, the same journey will take two and a half hours.”
“Today a lot of people fly between the two cities, but in the future it will be better to just take the train,” he adds. The same trip by car will be around an hour faster than today, taking into account time saved by not lining up for the ferry.

Germany Sticks To Nuclear Power Deadline But Leaves Loophole
“Germany is part of a European system hit by a decline in Russian gas deliveries, the French nuclear power squeeze and a drought that has curbed hydroelectric production and cooling water supplies to thermal power stations as well as hampering barge deliveries of coal,” Reuters says. A problem with the planned use case for the reactors is that nuclear plants are not designed to be variable backup energy generators, but rather continuous first-line generators.

Germany Orders Shutdown of Digital Ad Displays To Save Gas
But as German outlet Invidis reports, the regulation was unhelpfully vague. For starters an updated ordinance [PDF] appears to have made the simple mistake of substituting 06:00 and 16:00 — meaning digital signage could only run from 4PM to 10PM. Invidis also pointed out that digital signage at bus stops and train stations can do double duty displaying ads and timetable information. Exceptions for such dual-purpose signs have been arranged. Those errors and ambiguities have reportedly left those who run digital signs unsure of what they needed to do and worried they might miss the deadline.
Further complicating matters is a requirement to turn off the screens altogether rather than leaving the displays blank. Digital signage is seldom switched off, and retail staff will have to learn how to do that. Many digital signs also include a computer — some are Android machines, others use compute sticks, the Intel NUC and even the Raspberry Pi. Admins will therefore need to cope with extra reboots. And then there’s the matter of content updates, which are often scheduled overnight. All of which adds up to a stressful moment for admins of digital signage, and not much time to get things right.

‘He was too used to Germany’ – Man City legend Sergio Aguero says Erling Haaland was ‘welcomed to the Prem’ by Van Dijk
SERGIO AGUERO reckons Erling Haaland got “too used to Germany” after Virgil Van dijk “welcomed” him to England on Saturday.
City snapped up the superstar Norwegian in a £51.4million deal from Borussia Dortmund.
Virgil van Dijk gave Erling Haaland a torrid time on his debut in English football – and ‘welcomed’ him to the Premier League, Sergio Aguero said[/caption]
But he was given a rough ride by Liverpool’s star defender, and missed a last-minute sitter, as the Reds beat Pep Guardiola’s men 3-1 in the Community Shield at Wembley.
And Aguero, who scored a record 260 times for City and has a statue at the Etihad, reckons goal-machine Haaland still has some acclimatising to do.
The City legend said: “He was too used to Germany.
“Haaland thought he was alone, then Van Dijk arrived and said ‘welcome to the Premier League’.”

Argentine Aguero, who retired in December because of a heart condition, also questions City’s decision to sell Raheem Sterling to Chelsea.
The Blues snapped up the England winger in a £47.5m deal.
But Aguero reckons it was too soon to let go of the man he played with at the Etihad for six years.
He added on his Twitch channel: “I don’t understand the sale of Sterling, there are times [City] make strange decisions.”
